11th State of the Barrio Address (SOBA): Welcome our new tagline!

7 October 2009 28 Comments

“Keep Social Climbing Alive!”

That’s our tagline that endeared us to all of of you and gained us a lot of our followers worldwide. Except this reader from Houston who had no clue what our social climbing meant:

What about you, the self-proclaimed “social climber”? You do realize, surely, what a contemptible connotation the term “social climber” has, no matter what kind of “spin” you want to put on it, Reynz.

Our Social Climbing does not end here. Nah-ah! Hahaha! Just look at our records what social climbing did to Barrio Siete. 5 months ago, we started with an Alexa ranking of 20 million!

Alexa_a1

With 24/7 social climbing – karon?!

And the numbers are really humbling. Barrio Siete’s reach continues to mutiply threefold!

Pageviews continues to increase over 300+% and time spent in our blog stands at over 10 minutes. And in our 5th month in existence, we’ve added yet another very successful project up on our sleeves. Our Bayanihan Fund Drive for Ondoy Victims that brought us over Php160,000 with your unbelievable support. I was just wondering now, if we continued the fund drive and where that number would have ended up? Half a million perhaps?

Barrio Siete will continue to evolve. Social Climbing will always be alive here! We’ve reached our initial goal of proving something. But we’re not about to throw our social climbing model Ah-ah! World Peace pa rin kami. It will continue to be alive here in da Barrio.

But something in da Barrio will change.

And change is good, right?

So, the Barrio Council met online; had a Constitutional Convention without your knowledge; passed a barangay resolution that was approved unanimously nang mga present hahaha! Baket?! Tongressmen lang ba ang marunong mag-hijack nang legislations in the middle of a storm?! Hmpt!

So, let me introduce to you all our new tagline….

“Barrio Siete”

“IMBALANCED NEWS. BIASED VIEWS.”

You like?!

    base!

    about sa new tagline,

hmmm..parang mas gusto ko yung dati, social climb – kakaiba e.

    • reynz says:

Someone in the Barrio Council is drafting an Addendum to the Barrio Resolution para ma-i-bandillo hehehe, baka kasi indi na naman maintindihan nang mga iba dyan na maim-pluwensyal hehehe

  • bing says:

i prefer the previous tagline. mas s ang dating. s as in sensible? s as in sensational? s as in sexy? he he basta mas maganda ang dating tagline – it’s the ‘social climbing’ that made it!

    • reynz says:

hi bing! moi aussi. with great barrio siete writers, it was really social climbing and them that brought us to where we are now. we’re not dumping it though – i still love it, tugma pa rin sya, sabi nga ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan eh nalelechehan hehehe

  • darbs says:

    “Barrio Siete”

    “IMBALANCED NEWS. BIASED VIEWS.”

Then that is another story… much better.

  • Leo says:

hagalpak naman ako ng katatawa dito sa bago nyong tagline! oo nga naman, bakit hindi?!

  • Leo says:

ang mahirap nga niyan baka hindi ma-gets na mga bagong lurker at biglang maghuramentado without knowing the history of B7.

    • reynz says:

which is very true Leo. my officemates from New Orleans, initially did not get what “social climbing” was until i explained it to them. they did not even understand why we plastered our credentials in here. that too, i have to explain. hehehe

but our tagline “keep social climbing alive” was very successful actually. it elicits laughter and raises a few eyebrows.

and so it this one that we wanted to have… or is “considering” given the reaction that we’re getting.

“imbalanced news, biased views” is actually very witty. one has to read between the lines what it meant. hehehe

  • Sasha says:

Ang taray ng new tagline ha! Following you now on Twitter :)

  • an2nette says:

Congrats sa iyo mahal na kapitana at sa B7 members for a job well done lalo na sa ating fund drive, about the new tagline, okey na rin, wait na lang ako sa addendum

  • Chi says:

Ang taray. but i love it! very witty (reynz, baka mamisinterpreter nnaman yan ha? LOL) and “social climbing” is still part of the tagline right? like it. aprub! ~clap clap clap~

  • Glo says:

i love the new tagline but yeah wag lang totally i-dump yung dati. kasi wala dito ang barrio ngayon sa tugatog kung di dahil dyan. di ba manay?

congrats barrio siete, malapit na akong bumalik.

  • Monique says:

Nakangisi ako nung nabasa ko ang tagline, tiyempong may pumasok na kano. aba, akala siguro niya naloloka na ako. tumatawang mag isa.

kaaliw. although, the social climbing thing was also cool. :)

    mabrook barrio siete!

  • edwin says:

  • Mel says:

hmmmm… parang i like the two together!

    konek pa rin. hihihi

  • glorien says:

maganda both. so why not keep them both. hehehe.. if you can have the two or why not di ba? i really love this site.

  • BURAOT says:

actually making the negative term into a positive one takes skills. ahhh.. if only she knew what it meant. another case of her only skill, barge in and start shooting.

forgive her. she must have a lot of slick running through her mind. you see, her doctor who’s also a blond, told her that her engine needed a new transfusion. she brought in a few gallons of Texas oil.

    bless her heart.
