A Day With Ondoy
Eastwood C5 at around 2:52PM
While many among you were busy sleeping, watching wowowee and resting at home, isa ako sa mga muntik nang anudin ng bagyong Ondoy noong Saturday. Ok, that’s a little exag, pero I was out doing a walkathon that Saturday afternoon. Binaybay ko ang kahabaan of C5 for 2 hours dahil zero visibility ang mga public transpo. This has got to be one of the worst (if not the worst) typhoons I’ve encountered in Manila. First time ever kong naglakad from the office to our house. Now, I realized the importance of investing money on a durable and highly dependable umbrella.
If there’s any consolation, yun eh nangyari ito ng Sabado and not on a regular day dahil kung hinde, paniguradong mas madami ang stranded.
That’s the flyover going to Katipunan.
Napaka unglorified nun!
You know what lies behind the beautiful buildings of Eastwood City? Eto yun. Marikina Mud River
Last Saturday, raging rapids ang water dito.
that’s actually a 2-storey house na literally inanod nun kasag-sagan ng ulan nun Sabado
Eto sya if you look closer

This is really scary dahil nga nasa likod namin ang Marikina River. Yung parking sa basement ng office building namin was filled with water…sumabog yun generator…kaya nag shutdown ang buong building. Shucks walang ilaw, wlang tubig at walang elevator!!! Panic galore!
That Saturday afternoon was one of the most unforgettable afternooons in my life. And as I watch the news the past days, I realized na walang-wala pala yung na experience ko sa na-experience nun iba nating kababayan. I only walked for 2 hours while many were stranded on streets for more than 12 hours. I was able to go home safely, while many others got no place to call home at all. I took a bath and wore warm clothes for the night while many others slept with wet clothes and empty stomach. Many even lost their loved ones.
So in true Bayanihan fashion, let’s all do our share to help our kababayans. You can start by donating to Barrio Siete Fund Drive, GMA Kapuso Foundation, ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya or PNRC etc. Sabi nga, there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving.

malensky is is a true blooded Waray-waray from a certain barrio in the Eastern Visayas region. She graduated without honors in Engineering at some University along the Pasig river. A real life opportunist, self-proclaimed artist and street-smart babe who frequents the parlor, making friends with parloristas to get free highlites lol. She works in QC with slightly above minimum wage and plans to further her studies in Ricky Reyes Learning Institute so she could try a career out of haircutting, with manicure and pedicure.

i am glad u are ok malen.. mistulang naging ghost town yung 3rd pic. wala talaga masyado tao at sasakyan no? tsk..
i am happy that you are safe malensky.
Lalaine,
that’s very true, especially in Manila where they just dig whereever they want and they don’t cover them like PLDT or MERALCO or NAWASA they just dig as they wish! call it URBAN PLANNING PHILIPPINE STYLE and it really pisses me off like in front of East Ortigas, they dig Ortigas Av Extension as they wish.
that’s why the kids are vulnerable during flooding because who know how many of those holes are in there! kakairita!
Glad to know that you were able to go home safe. Nakakatakot talaga ang typhoon season sa Pinas. God spare us from any more Ondoys.
I hope everything will be better back home.
Re: Recent Flood (typhoon Undoy) 26 Sept. 2009,
death toll in Provident Village, Marikina City alone:
Official( according to MCF)= 16 dead
unofficial = 58 dead
AN INVESTIGATION IS IN ORDER!!!
The recent flood is the very unfortunate result of both natural and man made calamities. The release of excess dam waters was done without thinking of the consequences. It is both a criminal and insane act.
“The Angat Lake created by the Angat dam is the main potable water supply source of the Metro Manila Area. However this water when in over abundance, due to very heavy rainfall, is also the cause of widespread flooding, deaths, destruction and accompanying misery affecting not only the provinces of Bulacan and Pampanga but also the Metro Manila Area. This happens everytime the dam water reaches its maximum height and the spilled water races down through the gullies and streams to the east of the dam and this rampaging water joins the water of the Marikina river system multiplying the floodwater volume of the Marikina River system thereby causing rapid increase in the volume of floodwater in the Marikina Valley. This happens everytime very heavy rains overfills the Angat water reservoir. The solution to this problem is the construction of water diversion/power generation tunnels to divert excess water towards the east emptying into the Pacific Ocean. It will also generate power. It is not enough that the excess water is emptied into the heavily populated areas, i.e, Bulacan, Pampanga area,Marikina Valley, as it definitely will cause multiple death and destruction downstream. Diverting the excess water to the east will save so many lives as the east side is relatively sparsely populated and at the same time generate power for electricity. The Government of the Republic of the Philippines must consider this as a permanent solution to the recurring problem of flooding in the central Luzon area and Metro Manila.”
I’m sorry for encroaching into your space but I do not know where to start. Please think about the opinion I expressed above. You may freely share this thought with your friends, hoping that someday, the people criminally responsible for the release of Angat dam water, on the morning of 26 September 2009,shall face the bar of justice. An in-depth study and analysis of google maps and wikimapia maps in the vicinity of Angat Dam and Montalban, Rizal will prove my point. Better still, a short helicopter trip tracing the path of the floodwaters will verify this matter. The evidence left by the rampaging flood water will trace it back to its source (Angat Dam) and is rather difficult, impossible to erase in a short time.
As this is written, authorities have announced that they are releasing excess dam waters again. I am hoping that they get it correctly done this time to avoid the needless multiple deaths and needless destruction.
Malen, ipinagpray talaga kita. Good to know you’re kn na. God bless!
“U R NT ALONE I AM HERE WIT U THOUGH YOU’RE FAR AWAY I AM HERE TO STAY”
