A look at Ozamis City: public malls, changing the palengke landscape

How much do you know ba about Ozamis City?

From the air:

It’s interesting dahil most of us could talk about Paris, Rome, Montreal, Budapest, London or Dubai, yet I am so guilty, ni hindi ko nga alam kung saan tong Ozamis City. Aminin! Kahit kayo wa kayo knowing! Hahaha!

Im fak, sa kaka-google ko, I found this Flickr site and now ko lang na-gets ang ibig sabihin nang RORO hahaha! What do I know. Akala ko kung ano ang lecheng RORO. Eto pala sya!

An sabi, these are double-ended RORO ferries in contrast between the temple-like ferry and the traditional double-ended ferry. This is located near the port of Ozamis City which can be seen on the right of the picture with Bukagan Hill of the left margin. Ayun.

Anyway, so, La Kapitana was on a prowl, ready to make dekwat some news and pictures about this place. I have never been to Ozamis City kaya I’m kinda hungry for more pics. I just read one article kasi on the Inquirer which ignited my curiosity.

Yan ang itsura nang kanilang palengke. Nakaka-relate ako sa itsura nito. Hahaha! Although samen, walang palengke. Ang roof nang palengke sa barrio namen was the heaven. Buti pa sila.

story18-02

Sight nyo? Nah! Wala silang tinuturong anghel. Kundi they’re just happy dahil they can see Russia from the roof!

story18-05

Wagi ang mga tiga-Ozamis.

Now, I don’t know kung anong klaseng financing ang ginawa. Di ko binasa. Typically kasi puro sya loan. Babayaran nang local government. I was thinking more of a business partnership nang local government with private market tapos say, BIR provides some tax credits dun sa private investor – along that line. Maganda to mag-pa-ignite nang local economy. Sayang, di pa ako 40 years old to run as Senatress, marami pa naman akong experience in government administration. Haller! La Kapitana kamo ako nang Barrio Siete! tsk! tsk! tsk!

Filipinos have mall mentality. And there’s nothing wrong with it. Kung ang private market were able to capitalize on this sort of phenomenon by maximizing their bottom line sa ibang project why not the government? This just show na if you have the right partnership, win-win situation sya actually and it benefits the masa. My point? Besides, andyan ang ADB, willing – able and can. At nakakatuwa tingnan ang mga projects nila.

Like this old Panabo City bus terminal na mistulang clankers shop hehehe!

And again, with ADB’s assistance, check this out. Wagi di ba?

If only these could be replicated…

    OMG!!!
La Kapitana. Taga jan ako… hahaha… i can share anything and everything about my hometown. :)

    • reynz says:

glorien! haha the closest i was to ozamis was zamboanga city hahaha layo pa rin pala ang ganda pala nang lugar nyo, malaki sya

      • glorien says:

reynz… actually di sya ganun kalakihan. it’s a very small city na pwede mo siya libutin in one day.. hehehe.. il be posting an entry about it. actually, gumanda lang siya now lang. nung nag.iba ang mayor namin. hehehe :P

        • reynz says:

hahaha and how was the former mayor? baka naman haciendero na rin yon at me mga real estate developments na?

          • glorien says:

hahaha… the previous mayor did nothing. the new mayor sobrang major change. road widening and all that. nilinis muna nila ang market na madumi at makalat. nilipat nila sa maluwag na lugar tapos binalik. sobrang ganda nga ng plano.

before, akala namin na wala na rin chance city namin, kasi kung malaman mo background ng current mayor, no chance talaga.

            but we were all wrong.

          • reynz says:

that was nice glorien. and am sure, hindi lang ako ang overseas pinoy na abno sa mga other places sa pinas who are doing just as great na pwedeng gawing role model nang iba like… ahhh.. sorsogon?! hahaha tiga ron kasi ako hahaha

  • Mel says:

Sana ginawa din yan sa Sorsogon. Hello Escudero family. Hahaha!

    • reynz says:

tiga sorsogon ako mel hahaha and i know

and i don’t even have to talk or say nothing, andyan si Glo hahaha spokesperson ko hehehe

      • Glo says:

sa casiguran, maganda na ang palengke. ang palengke ng sorsogon inayos na rin pero di pa tapos. but of course hindi ganyan. wet market lang na improved. the closest sa ozamis ay ang town of casiguran. parang mall na daw ang public market dun. but of course i haven’t been there.

yung dating shopping reynz ginagawa na ngayon into an LKY mall. syempre pa project ni escudengdeng at ng ama nya at ng local government. (remember i took a pic of that na merong billboard sa harap na andun mga litraks nila.) well pag nakatayo na ang SM dito then that changes everything. kasi yung SM na ang magiging center of commerce. yun nga lang, mamahal ang standard of living dito. ;)

        • Glo says:

        • reynz says:

basta ampangit nung building na yan na nasa kanto tapat nang cathedral haha i think i remember nung panahon ang tawag dyan was JONI’s right?

  • [...] I was googling and oggling for pictures of Ozamis City. Naging curious lang ako. While browsing the net, I happen to saw these pictures. Like this one [...]

  • Snow says:

  • promking says:

i have been to ozamiz tatlong beses na.. dalawang bday ng papa ni glorien tsaka isang bday ng mama niya. maganda talaga sa ozamiz.

3 floors yan. yung first floor para sa sasakyan.
yung second, meron aircon area tsaka meron tindahan.
yung third, parang roofdeck, dun masarap mag picture-picture…

For Schools, meron dun Immaculate Concepcion College- managed by La Salle. Tsaka ang famous Misamis University.

Malapit lang din dun sa city nila ang MOAP (misamis occidental aquamarine park) may dolphin island dun na pwede ka lumangoy sa dagat with the dolphins.

Tapos, yung famous landmark nila ang Cota Shrine. The Cota protects the city nung panahon ng Espanyol, Kano, at Hapon, against sa mga pirata. walang makapasok na pirata sa city dahil sa Cota Shrine.

Maganda talaga dyan sa Ozamiz City.

    • reynz says:

wow, kaya pala nakikita ko yong Cota Shrine, yun pala ang significance nun. is there another city accross Ozamis? para me nakikita ako.

      • glorien says:

oo maganda talaga yun. there’s a myth behind cotta shrine. spanish times na marami pirates and gusto sumakop sa Ozamiz, they say nakikita na nila yung sasakyan. but apparently, umaalis ng walang reason. ang sabi nila, they backout kasi bigla daw tinatabunan ng ulap ang city. so pirates and spanish would think that nothing is beyong those clouds.

        • reynz says:

AHA! which means, maraming engkantanda sa lugar nyo?! well then, baka dyan ako talaga galing kasi ang mga ninuno ko eh either mindanao or visayas, although lolo ko is from iloilo haha

  • dencios says:

wow. sana ganyang kalinis at kaganda ang makita natin around manila bay at caloocan or malabon.

LOL @ fooliticians ni snow :D

  • glorien says:

reynz, ozamiz city ay sandwich ng zambo del sur and zambo del norte. hehehe… konti lang ang pasyalan niya pero maganda talga siya. that is why i am always proud of where i came from.

meron pa kaming Mt. Malindang that protects the whole city from calamity like typhoons and flash floods.

  • [...] The reason behind why I am writing an entry about my hometown because BarrioSiete wrote an entry about my city, A look at Ozamis City: public malls, changing the palengke landscape. [...]

    Salamat talaga…

  • sten says:

  • sten says:

kamahalan, sila po ‘yung nauna sa alvin flores gang ngayon…shabu capital of the philippines headed by the family of the sitting mayor. when erap was the vp then, dyan yan laging nagma-mahjong sa ozamis, sa bahay ng mga parojinog. kfr, drugs, bank robbery, yan po ang hanapbuhay nila. ang kuratong baleleng po ang pinarub-out ni sen.ping, then the head of the paoctf. para lang pong dacer-corbito, etong mga ‘to lang is mga criminal. :)

  • ako si says:

bombay lng mag-aasenso sa sorsogon…puro corrupt kaya di umaasenso..
