Abnormality is defined as:
Abnormality, in the sense of something deviating from the normal or differing from the typical (such as an aberration), is a subjectively defined behavioral characteristic, assigned to those with rare or dysfunctional conditions. I may not be a hardcore supporter of Danton Remoto and his Ladlad party but I dont like the word ABNORMALITY coming from the mouth of a cleric.
A Catholic bishop condemned the Supreme Court’s decision allowing rights group to participate in the party-list elections in May.
Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iniguez said on Saturday allowing a party-list group for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT) in Congress is pushing for “abnormality.”
“We recognize them, respect them, but their situation is an abnormality. The person is approving and encouraging an abnormality, which is unnatural,” Iniguez said in an article posted on the website of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
On Thursday, the SC said Ang Ladlad partylist can participate in the elections, and ordered the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to accredit the group immediately.
The SC said that homosexuals “have borne the brunt of societal disapproval,” and cited religious beliefs, convictions about the preservation of marriage, family, and procreation, and dislike or distrust of homosexuals and their perceived lifestyle as the reasons for this.
First and foremost, the word abnormality, in some context can be offensive to other people – as if labeling them as retards or mentally disturbed. Try saying the word abnormal to a friend or to your parents, you’ll get disgusted expressions on their faces.
Another thing that I find disturbing is the usage of the word abnormality in homophobic context. Who are we to judge them anyway? Who are we to label them as such? Who are we to say that these people are abnormal or perhaps, like Commissioner Nicodemus Ferrer reasoned out: IMMORAL.
Religion or no religion peeps, but let me say my take here.
I am sick and tired of people who judge other people based on their religious beliefs, political beliefs, lifestyle or even their choice of chicken barbeque for dinner.
I am sick and tired of hearing homilies that discriminates atheists, agnostics, homosexuals etc. Although, most of the times, they are being implied in a subtle way – a discerning member of the public (such as moi) could not help but read between the lines and be sick of this discrimination thingy.
We are not the ones who can say who is immoral or not or who is abnormal or not. After all, if the so-called judgment day comes, we all have to face our own accountabilities to our big boss in heaven. We are accountable to Him – and Him alone. I believe in God but I no longer believe in Catholic church or in any other church. Paano ka ba naman maniniwala sa ganyan? Mapanghusga sila, at descriminating pa kamo, lalo na dito sa Germany.
Why descriminating? If deborsiyada ka at gusto mong mag-apply sa isa sa kanilang institutes – rejected ka insigida. At huwag ka na ring magtangkang ipasok ang anak mo sa Cahtolic school dahil nagsasayang ka lang ng effort. If you are currently working in one of their institutes at magdidivorce ka – hanap ka na ng ibang mapasukan dahil tatalsikin ka nila pag nalaman nila ito. And when you die and you do not belong to their church (kagaya ko) magpacremate ka nalang dahil dito wala kang poder sa kanilang sementeryo.

In every society I know of, if a man happened to have molested and abused children, he would have been not only the subject of the populace’s ire but the full extent of the law’s capability to prosecute.
In the Vatican, not only did they look the other way, but attempted to hide the transgressions of one of their own. Not once, but MULTIPLE TIMES.

Actually the full meaning of the word abnormal is still subject to debate but common everyday usage points it out to deviating from the norm, hence, abnormal.
However, to use abnormal in a homophobic context is really irritating. I am wondering why these priests cant shut their mouths or perhaps stop themselves from meddling in state affairs.
In anyway, Remoto and his party has not personally attacked them or what. Why cant they let the people decide? Its up to the people whether they will vote for Ladlad or not.

I remember one time in our Barrio Siete here that I heard a slightly offensive and homophobic homily from a local priest. I nearly walked out of the church that time but still I stayed, just giving an ounce of respect for that priest. But to tell you the truth, I was so freaking irritated that time.
