Adam Carolla’s target was Manny Pacquiao. Yes, our boxing icon Manny Pacquiao who we don’t want to be in politics. He was calling him illiterate and for implying that the Philippines is a nation of whores!
Adam Carolla made a name as radio host in his own shows known as ‘The Adam Carolla Podcast’ , ‘Loveline’ and ‘The Adam Carolla Show’, is in big trouble for verbally attacking Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao in his program.
Not contented with his racial assault on the Filipino boxing icon by calling him idiot, illiterate, Corolla continued his tirade on the entire Filipino nation by implying that the Philippines is a nation of whores.

Well, obviously this guy is just some attention seeking dolt. Trying to be funny by being a little racist which ends up garnering him attention. The best way to approach this issue is to not give him what he wanted. The next thing we would want to see is a news about him appearing on our local news where obviously a lot will demand his apology which he will so arrogantly refuse because of the freedom of speech or sarcasm kind of reasoning again. Domino effect would be people (in the US) would become curious about this “arse” and his show and that is just what giving him what he wants. Just let him be with his low blows to any countries he may like and keep garnering negative critic and I am sure that it will end up with the cancellation of his so called radio show.
Why don’t we take a brief moment and understand the message that he is trying to get across. Sans the “F” words, this is the million dollar question that came into my mind – Why is our country known for Manny Pacquiao, for sex toys, for our Cebu dancing inmates, for Imelda Marco’s gazillion pairs of shoes?
Sad to say it is true…the question now is how do we make a paradigm shift to show the rest of the world that we are a country full of competent & intelligent workforce, that we are a nation w/ strong faith and good family values to name a few?
I have nothing against those who violently reacted to Adam’s comments. We are entitled to our own opinion but it’s about time that we do something about this. Just my two cents.

You have a very sensible reaction and I am with you on this. I think that in a way, there is some bitter truth to what this guy was saying. I take it as a challenge. The fact that life in the country seem to be on hold whenever Pacquiao has a fight may be funny but may be open to interpretation from other cultures.
While I see the bitter truth to his comments, I also see some cultural bias too. It is no fair comparison between the US and our country. He is looking at things from an American perspective. But US has 50 states, a district, and some territories. It is also first world. Of course there will always be something going on, something to celebrate. Philippines is third world and one-third the size of Texas. And with our grim economic and political condition, we see Manny as a good reason to celebrate.

Media, of course, thrives on the negative and by blowing things up into ridiculous proportions. No country, no person, no phenomenon big or small, is spared. They will tear it apart, make fun of it, ridicule it, might even praise it if it’s going to generate more viewers, until we lose interest. Then they go on to the next “big thing.”
My point is, we have been habituated to stay glued and react to these types of news. How many times a day do you really hear about positive news? Hardly ever. Although the media seems to be making an effort at adding a little section at the end about some nice little act of kindness that was directed towards a needy person, etc, etc.
I understand your sentiments, but I have to tell you, we HAVE BEEN showing the world that we are a competent, intelligent, passionate, hardworking, creative, honest, loving people. I work as an occupational therapist here in the USA for a small company who just looooooves us Filipino therapists. Why? Because they know we work hard and that we are trustworthy. Young Americans have been called lazy because they lounge around, pretend they’re working, then gather their huge salaries at the end of the day. Of course, like any other country, we cannot generalize and say they all are the same. But Americans, Italians, Filipinos, French..whatever…we all have our good guys and bad guys.
We make a big deal out of Manny because we are proud of him. Every country makes a ruckus out of an athlete who makes it big internationally. Whatever Manny’s faults, whatever his decisions that we personally consider silly or stupid, that’s his call. If we think his running for office would do more harm to our country than good, then let us say and do something about it.
I apologize for this long reply, but I am a hardworking Filipino in a foreign land who is disheartened about the corruption, the arrogance of government officials, the poor that remain poor, etc. But I miss my country no end. I talk to my American friends about our generosity, hospitality, our beautiful beaches and mountains, our commitment to family, church, and country. I am proud of my 3rd world country! I desire to go back and DO something. The image of a young, ragged, dirty, smelly mother on a streetcorner with a screaming baby in her arms and another young child clinging to her leg..her face showing confusion and frustration and near-insanity because she doesn’t know where to get their next meal…That is the image that lingers on my mind.
As for Mr Carolla, he pisses me off because he does not see the beauty in a struggling country such as ours. Contrary to what he has said, we WILL NOT sink into depression if Mayweather does get to beat Manny. Filipinos do not dive into depression. Americans do (9million with a diagnosis of depression).
