Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

14 October 2009 19 Comments

More or less seven hundred balloonists representing one-third of the world’s countries gathered together on October 3 – 11 to launch their colorful flying machines  over in Albuquerque (the biggest city of New Mexico) landscape. This is a must-do annual event here in New Mexico. Hundreds of thousands of visitors flocked Albuquerque to watch hundreds of hot-air balloons ascend. The City of Albuquerque built a 72 grass-covered acre park just for this event. It started with 13 balloons in 1972, now it is the largest balloon event in the world.

The fiesta includes events such as evening fireworks, evening balloon glows, and the popular mass ascensions at dusk/dawn.

There were casualties some years before.  Katakot! Kaya ayaw ko talagang sumakay, gusto ko lang manood. Last year, I heard that a certain balloon landed on an electric post that set their balloon on fire. Dalawa ata ang namatay. You see, you can’t control where you want your balloon to land.  You are like sailing with the wind. This year, fortunately, no one died..may isa lang na nagland sa interstate highway. Waaa.

Anyway…

So we decided to go witness the mass ascensions. We had to wake up at around 4:30 am. Santa Fe, our place, is an hour drive to Albuquerque. We got there at around 6 am. It was freezing cold, around 30 degrees F. We were really excited. The last time we went last year was a disappointment. They did not launch kasi daw malakas ang hangin. They could not fly if it’s windy and/or raining.

Tama na ang dakdak, ito na yung mga pictures na nakuha ko.

Enjoyfulness!!!
