America behaving badly
This Monday, I drove back to Philadelphia from New Orleans with an overnight stay in Atlanta and Virginia Beach. I just arrived Philadelphia today, Wednesday. Long distance driving is boring. Especially if you’re a cute lone star and I’m not even a cow gurl. But what made my very long drive interesting was the radio and no matter what channel I change it to, they all talk about America behaving badly. Where have all the manners gone, says one broadcast announcer. Or do we Americans have manners at all? Have we just kicked out the French in that category? Hah! Don’t even asked me about executives at work behaving badly! Now that’s a whole slew of blog entries at a later time. For now, here’s what’s going on in my Barrio Siete in America.

There’s South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson’s angry outburst “You lied!” to President Obama during his address to the Congress last week. Although Wilson apologized, but it was too late. His fellow legislators blasted his rude outburst and many believed that he should be censured. I wonder what’s going to happen to his re-election. Don’t count black vote for Wilson.

Next, you have Serena Williams taunting a lineswoman at the US Open where she lost the game. She threw her racket after being penalized for a foot fault during the women’s finals at the Open. It’s weird seeing the Olympian Serena, a US Open, Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon champion act in a very unsportsmanlike conduct. Worse, Serena refused to apologize, and when she did, you could feel she was not sincere about her apology.

Then, you have Kanye West bloody meltdown at the MTV Awards when he lost his mind by grabbing the microphone from Taylor Swift who was only 19 years old doing her lifetime acceptance speech for winning the best female vocalist on the MTV Video Music Awards. Talk about stealing the thunder from Taylor Swift! I mean, just look at the facial expression of poor Taylor! I wonder what she was thinking at that very moment?!
And to cap it off:
You have President Obama calling Kanye West a “jackass”. Ok, pour moi? give it up! I allow the President of the United States to call a jackass, a jackass! Hahaha! Ok. I am so not being fair here.
And so, I was driving for three days and all throughout, these were the conversation on the radio from New Orleans to Montgomery, Albama. From Atlanta, Georgia to Virginia Beach. Heck, I am now in Philadelphia and they’re still blasting Kanye West! Aren’t you impressed by how he rally the entire America for one opinion. Bummer, it’s just that it’s against him, hehehe! I commend Kanye West on his rallying cry against George Bush then in regards to the Katrina victims, but this time around this was so not in the league of civilized people.
Now, back to the US Tennis Open, in one radio in Atlanta, one announcer made a comparison of Serena Williams to John McEnroe. How come they made such a big fuzz about Serena doing such an act while John McEnroe even made a book out of his antics before and made money? Why is it against public perceived morality to do what she has done? It was ok for John and the rest of the male tennis players to do the shit that they did but it’s not ok for Serena. Sexism?
Another radio I heard in North Carolina blurted that this Kanye West drama was nothing more that racism because a white woman won the award. And I still remember this line during the George Bush Presidency – “George Bush doesn’t care about black people”. Was it really about race? Or that Kanye was just a pure jackass! Hahaha! Thank you Obama!
Because we’re now 24/7, if it’s not carried by the news, it’s carried by the bloggers and for Obama’s jackass comment, it’s the Twitter. Before, these things are just a story between two people. Not anymore. The world is now our stage for we can be read from sea to shining sea to the tip of Antarctica. We can now find other people who share our own opinions and there’s the convergence people. That’s why these seemingly small things are now like tsunami. Better that Survivor, Apprentice or American Idol, right?
But whatever it was to you, however you call it, this week was not looking good for America! That’s the bottom line. The world has another set of reasons to hate us once more!
Oh! Yeah! I’m really pissed like hell at Kanye!

[...] News Sources wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerptThis Monday, I drove back to Philadelphia from New Orleans with an overnight stay in Atlanta and Virginia Beach. yeehaw, cge na nga di ka cow gurl! kc di kabayo ang ride mo eh
jackass na kung jackass eh a**h*le naman talaga yun ginawa ni kanye noh, o nakadrugs kaya sya nun? kaawa yung itsura ni taylor no
you could see from Taylor’s eyes “what in the world is happening here!” Kanye has no reason to be up there
honga pala cant wait sa mga litraks mo… hmmm meron kaya ule yung nakasabit ka sa puno? hehehe
ay naku ateng! bad news! leche! nawala! grrr!
Same here Kanye. Hindi nya dapat ni-grab yang phone na yan kay Taylor Swift just because he felt na hindi niya type ang nanalo. Very unclassy.
uncivilized ang gagong yan grabe!
Oh yes! America scored once more on this stage. Tsk tsk tsk..Kanye, Obama is right. You’re a jackass!
media has been using that comment against Obama, like unpresidential daw! ngak! di ko magetz talaga, eh so what kung tawaging jackass yong ungas na yon!
bakit ano ba meron sa america na yan?
e mga bastos at ayaw patalo ang karamihan sa kanila.
racist pa.
di na ako nagtataka sa mga ganyang kasirauluhan nila.
damn right hahaha
Well, they think the world starts in California and ends in Paris. Many of my friends are good buddies but there are times that they are really off the board.
I just wanted to state wrt the Serena Williams incident that the foot fault call was incorrect and has been proven. And for Serena to lose it like that is warranted. They did the same bloody thing to her back in 2004 with her quarter final match against Jennifer Capriati. At the US Open at a very crucial point in the game, the lines woman gives a bad call. Plan of action ? Methinks so.
Kanye West did me proud when he stormed to the stage and grabbed the mic of Taylor Swift. I personally am not a fan of Beyonce but someone had to stand up for what is right. Too many awards have been bestowed upon unworthy recipients. I can go as far back as Angela Basset losing out for her role as Tina Turner in What’s lve gotto do with it or Mariah Carey losing out badly on her Emancipation of Mimi album.
And don’t even get me started on Whitney Houston. So it makes you think why these people just voice their opinions.
Kudos to Kanye West and Serena Williams. Atleast now America will listen.
But Antonio, VMA is based on people’s votes right? I agree that Beyonce has the best video of the year (or one of best of all time) but puede din natin iconsider the fact that among the 5 nominees for Best Female Video, only Taylor is the country artist. The rest are pop/rnb stars. Maybe country music fans voted for Taylor while pop/rnb fans’ votes are divided among the other four. Di ba posible yun? Wala lang. Naanalyse ko lang.
i agree with mel.. hindi ba nung mtv movie awards, puro twilight din lang ang nanalo although hindi rin ganun kaganda ang movie.. iba talaga ang nagagawa pag may fan base na.. he should just respect other people’s opinion, because its not only his that matters..
i’d leave those tennis antics for all to discuss. we’ve seen worse from the men. i guess it’s americas norm that women must be quiet. period.
for kanye? there’s absolutely nothing to be proud of what he has done. NADA.

I can spell Kanye West in 4 letters. G-A-G-O. Lol
kung pwede ko ngang tawagin nung isang letra nang alphabet eh
Kanye West?
For me he’s not an artist.
He’s a freaking DOUCHEBAG.
Kanye is a great musician actually, and he’s really good at what he does best – music, other than that – what a fkin jackass! he could have used it to further the advances made by black people and not drag them down.
once a jackass, always a jackass! ok lang na tinawag siyang jackass ng President nila. well at least naging totoo lang siya dahil sa ginawa ni kanye!
yes, i think it all boils down for being racist of kanye west…dahil bakit niya sinabi na si beyonce ang may pinakamagandang video kung walang favoritism o bias na kasali? Black din kaya si beyonce…
Kanye might be a jackass, but at least he tries to tell the truth. After Katrina he came close to the truth in his remark about George Bush. If Kanye had said that George Bush hated POOR people instead of BLACK people he would have been closer to the mark and avoided criticism of race baiting.
there is no justification for what he has done, no matter what he said – truth or lies.
