Aquino Camp to Delgado, NP: Liars
“Guido Delgado is a liar,” said Atty. Edwin Lacierda, spokesperson of Senator Benigno S. Aquino III, in response to a press conference called by the Nacionalista Party (NP) on Tuesday.
Delgado, a staunch supporter and one of the campaign officials of Manny Villar, presented several documents purporting to be a case study and psychiatric evaluation of Aquino that allegedly “fell on his lap” after an unknown source supposedly delivered the documents to volunteers of Manny Villar.
Delgado admitted the documents were unverified. He said he is leaving the task of verification to the media.
According to Lacierda, it is common sense that he who alleges something must be able to prove it.
“Delgado simply cannot give the unverified documents that fell out of the sky to media then expect them to verify while the story is circulating the airwaves,” he said. “He cannot just go to town and tell the public it is their obligation to verify his accusations. Villar and Delgado are making fools out of the media and the public. From the start they have made moral and intellectual dishonesty the crux of their campaign. Are these the kind of people we would want to run our country?”
Lacierda said the Aquino camp has evidence to prove that this new salvo of black propaganda came from the Villar Camp, as did the first fake report circulated through texts and the Internet to besmirch Senator Aquino.
For his part, Aquino’s Campaign Manager, Florencio “Butch” Abad said the Aquino camp expects attacks like this on a daily basis.
“They’ve been throwing everything at Senator Aquino including the kitchen sink,” Abad said. “Now they’ve brought out another kitchen… these are baseless accusations meant to counter the surging numbers of Aquino in all the pre-election surveys.”
Abad was referring to the widening lead of Aquino over Villar in the recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from April 16 to 19, 2010, where Aquino continues to lead, now in double-digits, at 38% to Villar’s 26%.
Abad noted that Nacionalista Party has been forming a pattern amateurish black propaganda that has constantly backfired on them.
“The public can see through these dirty tricks that Villar’s campaign has put out to the point of saturation. It reflects the sort of murky politics that has kept our country from progress,” Abad said. “We are confident that come May 10 the people will do what is right for our country.”
