Barriotic Betamax: Avatar
Avatar blasted through its opening day with a whopping 232 million dollars worldwide and yes, peeps, it is still making money in theaters. According to movie critics, Avatar (which is directed by James Cameron) delivers on the hype – movie peeps got what they really buzzed about. As far as I know, Avatar could be the future of science fiction films, made in 3D. Sabi nga ni Aling Wikipedia:
The film is being touted as a breakthrough in terms of filmmaking technology, for its development of 3D viewing and stereoscopic filmmaking with cameras that were specially designed for the film’s production. Opening to critical acclaim, it earned an estimated $27 million on its opening day and an estimated $73 million after three days. Worldwide, the film earned an estimated $232,180,000 in its opening weekend, the ninth largest opening-weekend gross of all time, and the largest for a non-franchise and original film.
What is stereoscopic filming by the way? Here’s the definition for stereoscopic filming:
Stereoscopy, stereoscopic imaging or 3-D (three-dimensional) imaging is any technique capable of recording three-dimensional visual information or creating the illusion of depth in an image. The illusion of depth in a photograph, movie, or other two-dimensional image is created by presenting a slightly different image to each eye.
In short, a normal 2D animation, when treated with stereoscopic techniques in filming will appear in 3D and mas life-like ang dating. In fairness to Avatar, sobrang life-like na yung alien characters na tipong parang real actors na sila in make-up. Yun pala, animation lang. I bet, mas advanced ang ginamit na techniques dito ni James Cameron – motion capture and everything. Check nyo ang trailer sa ibaba. 
I have not seen this film yet so I hope this Christmas or at least, after the Christmas rush e mapanuod ko ang isang ito. I am curious about the film since I know the internet has been in the buzz about it. Tingnan natin kung it really delivers on the hype.
Another thing about this movie, di siya ganun ka-advertised pero ginamit nya ang old time marketing strategy na WORD OF MOUTH (viral marketing). You can get people talking about your movie with lesser cost sa usual forms of advertisement. Talaga nga namang tatabo nito si James Cameron. Heheh.

ay, i don’t like the trailer. Hindi ko talaga feel ang mga alien movies and the like. haha. infairness, bonggang-bongga ang special effects.

i watched it last last day, my 1st ever 3D experience! napa-whoah ako! grabeh na talaga ang advancement ng cinema experience. i wonder what’s next. 4D?

Kung 4D na, yan na yung tipong makakainteract mo na ng live yung characters mo or parang simulated na virtual reality na makakasali ka mismo sa mga pangyayari dun sa movie.
i watched the movie too. as far as i know may 4d narin dito. at yung ginamit na camera dito na otomatik naaply sa image yung action nung real person eh first time na gamitin in the history ng earth!
grabeh. im fan of watching scifi movies pati mga alien chenez.. pero wal ko masasabi sa effects nito. walang sinabi ang harry otter at mga lord of the rings. you can hardly tell which is totoo at which is compurter generated!!!
isa pa, kakaiba para saken ang kwento nya, hindi basta alien invasion o kung ano mang taong tinurukan lang ng gamot kaya naging alien.. basta maganda ang kwento.. im looking forward sa mas maraming sine na ganito na hindi ko kayang mafigure out by just looking ang totoo at hindi.
pero napanood ko sya sa pirated na tv hindi sya ganun kaganda, malabo ang kuha ng *&^$
I watched it at a local theatre here in Calgary. From the start to the finish I was really into it. People were clapping at the end of the show. I regret now watching it in IMAX so I intend to go and watch it in IMAX for the second time. I had the same feeling as when I watched Star Wars for the first time!!! This a must-see movie.
