Betamax sa Barrio: 2012

I have been a fan of Roland Emmerich ever since his Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow films. So this time mga ka-barrio siete, hindi ko pinalampas ang 2012.
SPOILER ALERT: DONT READ THE ENTIRE POST IF YOU HAVENT WATCH THE FILM YET!!! BAKA AWAYIN NYO AKO! ANO VAH!
The film tells about the impending doom that the whole world will face in 2012. Yes, mga ka-barrio. Gugunawin daw ang mundo by 2012. Ihanda na ang mga nuclear bunkers! Charing. Heheh. The story starts in 2009 when a scientist in the name of Adrian Helmsley (starred by Chiwetel Ejiofor) learns about the abnormality ng solar flares ng sun which caused the bombardment ng neutrinos sa Earth. Yung bombardment ng neutrinos are causing disruptions sa core ng Earth, hence affecting the Earth’s crust, the core and the magnetic fields ng planeta natin. He worked continuously with the Indian scientist na si Satnam (Jimi Mistry), provided him with the data and Helmsley immediately took off to Washington D.C. para ma-warningan ang US government.
Forward then kay John Cusack, who played the role of Jackson Curtis, isang writer, divorced husband and part time limousine driver. He took his kids, Lily (Morgan Lily) and Noah (Liam James) to a hike in the Yellowstone Park. They ended up in a restricted government site and was apprehended for trespassing. After being released ng mga sundalo, thanks kay Dr. Helmsley na na-meet sila, ibinalik na ulit sila sa outskirts ng site. Dun nila na-meet ang eccentric na broadcaster na si Charlie Frost (Woody Harrelson) who was doing radio broadcasts about the Mayan doomsday prediction of 2012. Nabanggit din ni Charlie kay Jackson ang mga misteryosong pagkakamatay ng mga known figures and he assumes na pinatay ang mga key people na ito para di sila makapagsalita about the 2012 doom.
Nagkaroon ng deep government cover up as soon as Helmsley informed the US government. There was a scene na yung Mona Lisa painting sa Louvre e pinalitan ng perfect replica para mailigtas sa impending doom. 2009 na-discover ang anomalies which can lead to the Mayan prediction ng 2012 pero ang mga governments e nilihim ito sa karamihan. Instead, they chose to build the arks sa Himalayas para just in case na magkaroon ng great flooding, just like sa story ng Noah’s ark, e mailigtas ang ilang tao at species.
And in the rest of the film, nagunaw ang mundo. May mga other countries na nagsubside towards the sea.
If you gonna ask me what’s my rating for this film, I give it a B minus (B -). Entertaining naman ang film. Well, sanay na ako manuod ng apocalyptic films ni Roland Emmerich kaya I did not found myself screaming like hell sa sinehan. Over-all, entertaining naman. Medyo mapapakapit ka nga lang sa upuan mo kapag nakikita mong gunawetch na ang mga familiar na landmarks all over the world.
What I found lacking sa film e yung explanation nila about the Mayan 2012 prophecy. Supposedly, ineexpect kong may explanation about that.
If you want entertainment or makitang magunawetch ang mundo (hehhe), try nyo ding panuorin ang film na itech! Enjoyfullness nyo na lang.

I give it a 6.5 over 10. good movie, worth the wait. medyo predictable but i like it. isa pa, iniyakan ko ‘to. hahaha!
my favourite scenes: dr. satnam (the indian scientist) and his family at the top of the valley a few seconds before they are hit by the tsunami, it defines love. second, the scene of dr. helmsley’s father before the ship capsized, his eyes are full of emotions. grabeh, heart wrenching scenes talaga.

leche binasa ko pa hehehe! i was busy kasi at baka mamaya pa ako manood haha but just for the heck of it, manonood din ako, medyo matagal na akong nakapasok nang movie house and i have no more clue how it looked like inside hehe
feeling ko ang reason nga kaya hindi na masyado nagfocus dun eh kasi more on entertaining ang focus nya. more on na takutin ang mga tao. kasi yun tipong hindi naman documentary yung film about sa kung ano ba talaga ang reasons behind. maybe because its a film to entertain not to educate like those in documentary films?..
I liked it! Giving it an A++++++ rating, with or without the Mayan theory!!! hehehe
