Between Mar Roxas and Loren Legarda: Who is the political butterfly?

Here’s an interesting piece of story that I read on the Inquirer.

It’s a question as to who is the political butterfly between Mar Roxas and Loren Legarda. How did this verbal butterfly fight came about?

Well, according to the story, Liberal Party director general Chito Gascon called Senator Loren Legarda a “political butterfly” because he said, she jumps from one party to another for political gains.

“Look who’s talking!” according to NPC spokesman Rex Gatchalian who said that it is Mar Roxas who is the “political butterfly”. Is he not a political butterfly?” said Valenzuela Representative and NPC spokesman Rex Gatchalian in a statement.

1.) Roxas’ entry into government was when he was appointed Trade Secretary of then President Joseph Estrada.

2.) But Roxas was also one of the first to call for Estrada’s resignation when the impeachment proceeding against him came.

3.) The senator then joined the Arroyo administration again as Trade Secretary, but turned his back on Arroyo at the height of allegations of electoral fraud.

What do you think?

  • liberdad says:

I think it’s called principle. What’s wrong with turning your back on evil?

  • kutz says:

Well I think it’s a symptom of a bigger problem – the lack of principle on the part of the political parties. I would not label either of them political butterfly at all, not even opportunists. I think in a country like ours where the political principles are not clearly defined (translation: non-existing) it’s normal for politicians to hop from one party to another to chase that higher probability of winning the election.

Sa tate, pag sinabi mong political butterfly eh talagang malinaw na opportunista at walang paninindigan. Kasi there are two opposing principles that we can join depending on our own core beliefs at malinaw yan. The Republicans (aka conservatives or GOP’s) believe in small government. The Democrats (aka progressivists or liberals) believe that there is a need for the government to ensure that every citizen is afforded equal rights and opportunity and government plays an important role in ensuring that.

Hayaan ang business and private sector na mag self- regulate kasi too much regulation will only breed corruption. That’s the essence of capitalism – ang paniniwalang sinisimbulo at isinusulong nga estados unidos. May point dib a?

Regulations, laws, and taxation are essential to keep the order in the civilized society.

Am I more of a republican or democrat?

May I sulat na naman ng nobela. Cenxa na Ateng, Wa me time mag edit, hahaha!

  • reynz says:

d2 kasi saten kutz, dual-party lang, at yong masama ang loob, becomes independent. it seemed to me na more ang chances na maging political butterfly sa multi-party system dahil the political environment allows them to. me mga bata-bata na pati ang mga yan, so it’s easy for the other party to accept them like in the case of Recto di ba. i would assume, inaccept sya sa LP given na marami syang bitbit na botante.

  • kokoy says:

Maingay lang naman sila but they don’t seem to fit to become public servants. Di rin sila Political Butterflies

    Tawag sa kanila B***S***!!!

  • Leo says:

  • Leo says:

sorry, i’m biased with LP :)

  • Mon says:

i see. that makes sense. kala ko it’s a question on roxas’ sexuality. lol

  • mark says:

Eh di si Loren. Mar to me has always sided with principled politics. You ask Erap and GMA to resign? may masama ba doon eh alam naman natin na parehong corrupt at di mapagka-titiwalaan yung dalawang yun!

Loren hindi lang political butterfly….tama si Victor Corupz nung sinabi niya Loren is a political prosti!

    • Snow says:

I find Loren more of a political butterfly. Funny how she criticized Villar before but look at her now – she’s the running mate of this controversial presidential candidate. Whew! :(

  • promking says:

the closest thing to Philippine party system is:

    Administrasyon vs Oposisyon

    gets?

    • Snow says:

      @promking:

I have this dream nga na sana, tumulad na lang tayo sa USA pagdating sa pagpili ng kandidato…

Imagine, this country has 50+ states pero dalawa lang ang puedeng pagpilian during election time – Republican lang or Democrat.

Now, it makes me wonder why we can’t do this to our dear country eh samantalang hindi naman kalakihan ang ating bansa di tulad ng USA.

  • Jett Rink says:

To answer the question, between the two, I think Loren is more of a political butterfly, although a pretty one. However, Mar is also one. He is not squeaky clean, LP propagandists notwithstanding.

  • Krissy says:

Go NOY-MAR!!!! (Noynoy Aquino & Jejomar Binay)!!!!

  • just says:

PLASTIC DIN nga ang ROXAS NIYO TINAWAG NA VILLAROYO SI MANNY PERO SIYA PALA ANG MALAPIT NA KAMAG-ANAK NI MIKE ARROYO DAHIL ANG MGA LUPAIN NI JOSE PIDAL SA NEGROS OCCIDENTAL AY ANCESTRAL LANDS NG MGA ARANETA NA SIYANG APELYIDO NG NANAY NI MARING MAR. HAHAHA.. NOW IS THAT PRINCIPLED? HAHAMAKIN MO SA HARAP NG MADLANG PIPOL ANG MGA TAONG CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTOR MO PARA LANG SUMIKAT SA BOTANTE. WHEW… I HAPPEN TO KNOW THIS BECAUSE I’M NEGROSANON.

  • jenna says:

  • kisses says:

I think liberdad ias correct. He has principle. He trusted these people and thought that these people wanted whats is good for our country. When he found out that they wanted everything to themselves. Mar simply fought against them and did what was right. Loren is the political butterfly. She is a hypocrite

  • YeYe says:

I think Loren is the Political Butterfly…I agree with snow…if you will just trace back the news, the interviews, the way Loren criticized Villar, you might as well agree with us that she is really a butterfly jumping from one person to another….where she can gain more…Well, with this attitude of Loren, I dont think she can lead the country…baka dumating yung time para lang kumita as mas makilala mkianib pa yan sa mas malakas na bansa….the worst ibenta and pilipinas in any manner or the like….

  • fz says:

loren will join anyone who can give her what she wants.
