Let’s talk about ROI.
That’s Return On Investment folks. When you invested too much too many during the election campaign, nangutang ka pa, it is animal nature to get your investment back PLUS a small percentage of returns, very – very small and tiny, like 99% or 101% to eternity. Kaya, neophyte solons are against pork barrel cuts. Tama ba ang Reyna mga ka-berks?

With just a little over two weeks remaining in Gloria Arroyo’s presidency stay in Malacanang, her supporters and detractors, in fact Gloria Arroyo herself, are already hard at work crafting two very different versions of her historic and/or corruption laden legacy. And you better believe me when I say that no one is working harder to leave a favorable mark than Gloria Arroyo herself. In fact, she bombarded the airwaves with videos of her accomplishments. The video shows an economic boom. Great highways, whether you travel North or the South. …

Can you believe this?! Our country’s debt is now a whopping P4.4 trillion! And there is not even a decent expressway that spans from south of Manila all the way to Matnog, Sorsogon. All we hear are Nograles unexplained wealth, Arroyo’s sons unexplained wealth and more! The article said:

“All borrowings under President Arroyo’s term–that racked up the country’s outstanding debt to a whopping P4.2 trillion as of 2008 from only P2.2 trillion in 2000–were necessary, her economic managers argue, amid accusations the President was responsible for the country’s deepening …

A very interesting read about the Balkans that we, in the Philippines can relate. The article discusses the problems and possible solutions (some sections of the case study were removed). In the Balkans, organized crime is their big corruption problem. In the Philippines, it seemed like the [insert word here] is the mafia. In the Balkans, they have incentives. In the Philippines? Nada. What we have is easier national unity, never having to grapple with ethnic civil wars.

(Merceditas Gutierrez; Benjamin Abalos Sr.; Romulo Neri; Mike Arroyo; Gloria Macapagal Arroyo)
“Calculated risks.”
This is the gist of the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman in its apparent bid to hide the plot behind why it indicted former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. and Social Security Systems (SSS) Chairman Romulo Neri—and punished the latter for a six-month suspension from office.
This is so because they know that Abalos and Neri have a very good chance to be acquitted after trial by the Sandiganbayan on the …

I’m sharing this article that was sent to me by an FB friend. Sounds pretty much like how they do it back home I guess.
This is a throwaway account (I’m a longtime redditor under another login). /r/economics might not be the correct place to put this, but it was the best I could think of. I’m a mid-career guy in a business that does a lot of work with governmental and quasi-governmental agencies. I’ve never ripped anyone off personally, but I have seen and occasionally been an incidental beneficiary of …

What a news!
The Ombudsman cleared President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo of culpability for their roles in the aborted $329-million national broadband deal known as ZTE controversy, but recommended the filing of criminal and administrative charges against former Commission on Elections chief Benjamin Abalos and Neri.

Hey! How’s your Congressman doing? Puro lang ba pa-cute? Well, Walden Belo has one thought provoking question.
Is Congress Worth Running for?
“There are members of the 14th Congress who, I am told, have never once spoken on the floor in their nine years in the House. And when members do rise to deliver privilege speeches, they usually devote these to attacking enemies in their congressional districts, which is why very few members appear to be paying attention even when a speaker is trying his bombastic best to pound his …

At this point, you should have already read the entry, Manny Villar’s P10 Billion Vista Land IPO proceeds. That’s where our discussion begun.
Now, having finished Kursong walang matrikula: The basics of IPO (initial public offering), I’m sure you are now an expert on IPO, di ba? So let me update you with what’s been happening about the Vista Land IPO while you were in IPO school. My sources are newspaper articles I read. Better di ba? I’m not inventing stories here.
According to the charges of Estrada and/or Enrile:

How ironic that it had to take a current Senate President and the only President ever impeached, convicted and pardoned, to access otherwise confidential PSE records and testimonies that debunk former Senate President Villar’s protestations of innocence in connection with his role in Vista Land’s IPO affair.
A reminder about Erap’s impeachment and eventual conviction is timely and relevant. After all, cynics are saying, how ridiculous and inappropriate of Erap himself to be Villar’s denouncer for the very same classes of impeachable offense. We can’t blame them.
But if we …

If you noticed mga kabarrio, sunod-sunod ang headlines about the Vista Land IPO about Manny Villar. Pramis, hindi ako ang nagsimula nang tsismis na to. In my mind, ki Manny Villar den during his interview with Karen Davila when he said he earned P10 billion which he is now using to fund his presidential campaign. (Source: Manny Villar’s P10 Billion Vista Land IPO proceeds)
But before you can have any appreciation sa mga pinag-uusapan nila dito, it’s important na you have some basic understanding kung ano ang IPO [pronounced: ay-pee-o hindi …

That’s Andal Ampatuan Jr. when he was moved from the NBI Compound to Camp Bagong Diwa (or was it other way around? ah basta! basta nilipat sya! hahaha!), he was seen wearing the Orange chienes because he was supporting Manny Villar. In fact, according to the story ‘Abswelto kami kay Villar‘, he confirmed to ABS-CBN his support for Many Villar. This story hit the Facebook and it went around …

I’m no stranger to auditing federal contracts. One of the best jobs I’ve ever had. Why? The things that you discover would amaze you. I get a kick discovering what people do just to beat the system. One time, a consultant has been submitting his invoice for payment. The company has been paying him for years! Hahaha! He included another consultant on the list – who was not doing any work for the company. I would discover that she was the wife. He changed her name. How …

no wonder manny pangilinan a.k.a. MVP needs a ghostwriter for his speeches.  if his apology to fr. ben nebres is any indication — i’m supposing he wrote it himself — his english isn’t all that great pala:
I have been told last night that portions of my graduation remarks – in particular my address to the Schools of Humanities and Social Sciences – had been borrowed from certain other graduation speeches.

I get FB tags all the time. But this was one tag that truly surprised me. In this video, Jamby Madrigal discusses an alleged conspiracy between Mike Velarde and Manny Villar in regards to the continuing C5 road project controversy. She said:
“Politically there is this conspiracy of Villar and Brother Mike because they have been partners in C for a long time. C for corruption, C for C5,”

As I wreck this chair By William M. Esposo
“Nakaranas na ba kayong … mamatayan ng kapatid dahil wala kang pera pangpagamot (Have you experienced losing a brother because you did not have the money to provide him proper medical care)? — Manny Villar asked in his “PANATA (Advocacy)” TV commercial. Villar was referring to his younger brother Danny who passed away on October 1962. In the same commercial, Villar’s 1962 photo with his younger brother was shown.
This portrayal of being poor once upon a time is a fantasy which comes …

While all of you are busy campaigning online or offline for your candidates, there’s a midnight flight that’s not being noticed. You have to thank these journalists for keeping an eye on them, like Neal Cruz on As I See It.
And if you’re currently doing an mba, behind this drama presents a good strategic management discussion. Of course, you might have to include busines ethics if indeed this is a midnight deal. Read on and you’ll know why.

So in the partylist system, just who are the marginalized? Who are the under-represented?
Too bad people. Somebody forgot to bring the dictionary.
The very simple thing I understand from this partylist system is a noble objective to provide representation to the under-represented and the marginalized sector.
Ganun lang.
But the more I read the papers about partylist, the more I lose my eyebrows!
Por ejemplo: I was reading this article on the Inquirer: No law defining ‘marginalized’ sector. Huh?! Teka lang! They passed a law on party list and they forgot to define the …

“When I read on the papers that Mikey Arroyo’s intention to run for Congress, this time using the partylist, I just realized how wrong the partylist system was. The big question for me was: when did Mikey Arroyo became “marginalized”?! When?!
Enter Malacanang Palace who pretty much said that – hey! everyone’s doing it! As in, huh?!!!!!! Can you imagine what these people in MgaKanyaLang Palace? Do they even have any clue about ethics?! Setting standards? Role model? Just because everyone is doing it, and so shall we do …

Patindi nang patindi ang political cheezmaks given na dalwang buwan na lang bago mag-santacruzan. According to the cheezmaks grapevine, Noynoy’s strength is his “purity” so that’s where they are trying to hit him.

From the facebook wall of Sylvia Morningstar, copy-pasted by Robert Young, Jr.
Everyone in the media knows Lito Banayo’s in Erap’s team. And we note that he and his teammate Dacky Paredes have been attacking Villar consistently. Sometimes I wonder just how much patience everyone has for this billiard game – You hit the cue ball: Villar. All the other colored balls that move in chain reaction from the cue ball either fall into a target basket OR go rolling to some other direction. That takes patience and steady nerve. How …

I’ve worked in the public housing industry in the United States for many years, overseeing housing investment tax credits and low income housing programs, which is why I would love to see a similar type of program be introduced in the Philippines, if there isn’t any in place. I’ve searched some government websites but I could not seem to find any information about affordable housing programs in the Philippines, I guess affordable housing programs are still called “squatters”. But even that is no longer affordable. You get evicted anytime. Popular …
