The Aquino administration Wednesday asked the Sandiganbayan to revoke its approval of the plea bargain between former military comptroller Carlos Garcia and state prosecutors—a compromise Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and a veteran lawyer branded as smacking of a “midnight deal” under then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
In motions seeking to intervene in the case, the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) asked the anti-graft court to set aside its May 4, 2010 resolution that would allow Garcia to escape charges of plunder for allegedly stealing P303 million from the state coffers.
The …

He shot first, but his camera was no match for an assassin’s caliber .45 pistol.
A barangay councilman’s final act of taking his loved ones’ picture as the New Year arrived proved invaluable to investigators when the photograph he took also “captured” the gunman taking aim at him with a handgun.
Councilman Reynaldo Dagsa of Barangay 35 in Maypajo, Caloocan City, was just outside his home right after midnight of January 1.
He was taking a picture of his wife, daughter and an elderly female relative on Tuna Street when a suspected car …

This news is nothing new really. It is an open secret that Customs is home to big, wide, large and humongous crocodiles. The news is about a Customs Operations Officer by the name of Manuelo Algerre who alledgedly lied about his net worth for the past 25 years.
Imagine. 25 years and no one noticed.
It gets interesting.
The DOF Revenue Integrity Protection Service (DOF-RIPS) wants Algerre to be charged with perjury and falsification of public documents for excluding questionable properties from his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth, or SALN.
The …

A prosecution lawyer on Thursday appealed to authorities to investigate the alleged million-peso bribe attempt on jail officials supposedly to set free members of the powerful Ampatuan clan who are detained for their alleged involvement in last year’s grisly massacre in Maguindanao province.
“Sana maimbestigahan ng Department of Justice at ng Department of Interior and Local Government and inform us if this reports are really true,” private prosecutor Nena Santos, legal counsel for Maguindanao Gov. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu, said during a break in Thursday’s hearing of the massacre case at the …

Dear Readers,
Few hours ago, I wrote to several advertising trade publications to share this “Pilipinas Kay Ganda” brand activation campaign.
While these trade magazines serve as venues to discuss advertising industry’s innovations and trend, I thought of asking them their stance on this deliberate shameful acts between Department of Tourism and Campaigns & Grey. As a concerned tax payer, I do not take such things lightly especially learning from Ellen’s report that here had been cost incurred.
Here is my letter:

I am just happy that someone already did …

The Philippines and the rest of the world are commemorating today, November 23, 2010, the first year after 57 persons were killed in the town of Ampatuan, province of Maguindanao in the most brutal manner one can imagine.
With this, the memory I dread the most riots in my mind and they cannot go out of my head.
For being a human being and a journalist, it is …

First the good news: The Department of Tourism has a new website! Yehey!
Then, more good news: The Department of Tourism is bringing nationalism to a whole new level! Using Filipino! And providing a translation and pronunciation guide!
And even more good news: The domain name is going to make every lonely heart (or dirty mind) crawl out of the woodwork and make a beeline for the first plane headed for the land of beautifulpilipinas.com!
Did you say alarm bells rang in the Interpol’s porn …

They’re in power now. So, what change?! This is how it works in the Philippines. “The” friends, “The” relatives and “The” classmates, with no apologies to Dale Carnegie, Malacanang’s book is out: How to kick friends out and lose influence.
And that’s the fire raging right now betwee BSA3 supporters and the mother shit err ship. Believe it or not, Noynoy Aquino’s Communications Department talaga is one maximum-level full of dysfunctionalities. We’ve seen their dysfunctionalities before and we are still seeing it now. Worse, it is now between them and …

Wow! Interestingly, I was just complaining about this in my Facebook update! Not that I am looking for a construction permit to build a brothel!
But!
In a recent study by the International Finance Corporation, the Philippines ranks 148th among the 183 nations in terms of ease of doing business. Now, let’s translate the numbers in some meaningful shit that could be understood by everybody.
A rank of 148 in a total of 183 nations means: The Philippines beat 35 nations. Nice! Right?
Well, the thing is, there were 147 nations in …

Thanks to the Supreme Court Justices, I am plagiarizing this Philstar article.

“It is all a question of breeding. Mislang may have had the misfortune of not having been trained well by her parents. It is simply basic and that makes it so difficult to understand why Mislang did it, to the embarrassment of the whole Filipino nation. It’s Noynoy Aquino’s staff that sucks not the wine in Vietnam!
In fact, would it be fair to say that Noynoy Aquino is surrounded by some really ugly Filipinos and it’s not that Vietnam don’t have good-looking men?
Agree? Who would like to start a list? Anyone? Anyone?
So, you want to be a great leader? Surround yourself with intelligent and smart people. At least that’s what I learned in school. Of course, we all know now how bad was Noynoy Aquino’s selection and hiring. Just take a look at this latest – …

Below you will find a YouTube post, which appears to be a tense conversation between a distressed OFW and Labor Attache Romulo Salud that is currently circulating the internet. Read though and listen to the conversation:

This reminds me of my days in Saudi Arabia and UAE where distressed OFW’s (especially first timers) have no clue on what to do when distressed. Over a decade past, POEA requires prospective OFW’s to undergo Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) where its goal is to educate migrant workers on how to deal with their …

And so I read that it is all-systems go this coming Monday for village-level elections. The entire country will vote for a total of 42,025 barangay chairmen (and as many youth council chairmen) and 294,175 barangay kagawads, or councilors (and as many youth councilors).
I am a non-believer of Sangguniang Kabataan. Even during the Kabataang Barangay days, maybe not all, bui I know that these lowest political unit is being used as just another political and/or corruption tool by those who can exert influence to the powerless SK’ers.

Let me begin by saying that you will be reading a SONA reaction from a loyal Noynoy Aquino supporter. However, this does not mean that I will be singing kumbaya with my President at all times – just because. Having said that, I will try to be fair with Gloria Arroyo (Can you imagine me saying that? I must be going nuts!) By saying that the findings would have been more believable if it was conducted by a third-party and/or independent auditors and I’m certainly not referring …

We’re getting to be known as a country of plagiarizers. All the way up to the Supreme Court. We have Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo allegedly plagiarizing Criddle and Fox-Descent’s article, “A Fiduciary of Theory of Jus Cogens”. It’s an article that came out in the Yale Journal of International Law last year. He copied at least 31 parts of the article to landscape his April 28, 2010 decision denying the plea of Filipino women who became sex slaves during the Japanese occupation to have …

President Benigno Aquino’s 1st State of the Nation Address (SONA) will be shocking, says one headline news. It reads: “Aquino says SONA will ‘shock’ Filipinos“. But if you read it, it’s all about how much was left by the Arroyo’s on the national coffers. That’s not shocking. That’s expected from these corrupt [insert bloody anything here]. What is shocking is that – you still see all of these KUPALS (thanks to Larry Leviste) prancing around – even in the halls of Congress. That’s what’s shocking.

My deep slumbering leadership thoughts were ignited by Arnie’s FB status update. For how can a Filipino miss it? Most politicians start out with some very noble objective to better the lives of our countrymen. Di ba? Almost everyone. And yes, I’m sure, even the Ampatuans.
We have leaders in the country. But even if we all subconsciously know the answer already, dahil makulet ako, I still can’t help asking, hoping that i’m really wrong. but why is it that once they get connected with the government, they would easily …

Maybe some of you have been wondering what my current beef with the NBI is all about. Here’s the story behind it.

When we apply for an NBI clearance and we get cleared – we normally get our passports, or get employed overseas and it indicates we have no “hits” on the system. We are asked to fill out a form – complete names from your maiden name to the name of your parents as well. Then you line up, for hours, for each and every step it …

Let’s talk about ROI.
That’s Return On Investment folks. When you invested too much too many during the election campaign, nangutang ka pa, it is animal nature to get your investment back PLUS a small percentage of returns, very – very small and tiny, like 99% or 101% to eternity. Kaya, neophyte solons are against pork barrel cuts. Tama ba ang Reyna mga ka-berks?

I got a call from a former comrade, they are now converging on the streets of the EDSA, waiting for the imminent yet another uprising to unfold.
I was inside the former US base where I currently hold my office. It was another period of turmoil and political uncertainty. Then Philippine President Erap Estrada is facing impeachment charges at the floors of the Senate.
I wanted to go to the capital, and join the ongoing protests. But something I felt at that time was out of line. The dreams of the …

With just a little over two weeks remaining in Gloria Arroyo’s presidency stay in Malacanang, her supporters and detractors, in fact Gloria Arroyo herself, are already hard at work crafting two very different versions of her historic and/or corruption laden legacy. And you better believe me when I say that no one is working harder to leave a favorable mark than Gloria Arroyo herself. In fact, she bombarded the airwaves with videos of her accomplishments. The video shows an economic boom. Great highways, whether you travel North or the South. …

Can you believe this?! Our country’s debt is now a whopping P4.4 trillion! And there is not even a decent expressway that spans from south of Manila all the way to Matnog, Sorsogon. All we hear are Nograles unexplained wealth, Arroyo’s sons unexplained wealth and more! The article said:

“All borrowings under President Arroyo’s term–that racked up the country’s outstanding debt to a whopping P4.2 trillion as of 2008 from only P2.2 trillion in 2000–were necessary, her economic managers argue, amid accusations the President was responsible for the country’s deepening …
