MANILA, Philippines – The doctors of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo have advised the ailing congresswoman to seek medical treatment in the United States or Singapore, her spokesperson Atty. Raul Lambino said.
According to Lambino, however, Arroyo chooses to remain in the Philippines to quash speculations that she is avoiding the plunder charges filed against her.
“Sensitive siya sa public opinion e. Sinasabi niya, ‘Kapag ako umalis sa bansa, sasabihin nila tinatakbuhan ko itong accusations against me.’ To the extent of maybe putting her life in danger,” said ...

MANILA, Philippines — Former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been fitted with a “halo vest” to support her brittle cervical spine, doctors at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City said Thursday.
In a media briefing, Dr. Juliet Gopez-Cervantes, Arroyo’s personal physician, said a team of doctors led by veteran orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mario Ver put the halo vest, also known as a halo ring or crown, to immobilize the cervical spine.
“She is now conscious and staying at the Coronary ...

World-class singer Lea Salonga, a staunch supporter of the Reproductive Health (RH) bill, said one does not have to be pro-contraception to be pro-reproductive health.
In an exclusive interview with Jessica Soho on GMA News TV’s “State of the Nation” on Wednesday night, Salonga admitted that she is currently not using any form of contraception because she and her husband want to have another child.
“I’d love to have another kid,” she said. “I kind of leave it up to God at this point, but we’re not stopping anything from happening.”

Blood stains. I saw them everyday for months during a certain period in my life. Blood on the floor, on hospitals gowns and on previously pristine white sheets. The room could almost be a set of a horror movie if not for the dozens of crying babies and nursing mothers..
For weeks it was always the same routine. Everyday, I would march the hallway armed with my medical artillery. Thermometer, stethoscope, a sphygmomanometer and a piece of paper. The whole bond ...

MANILA, Philippines – A woman is seeking justice after her live-in partner died allegedly after surgical equipment were left inside him post-operation.
Hannah, not her real name, still can’t believe what happened to her live-in partner Roger Panzo.
She recounted that on January 30, Roger was brought to the FEU-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (NRMF) Medical Center after he sustained gunshot wounds in a robbery incident in Caloocan.
He was operated on and was able to recover, but the surgical wound was not closed immediately. The hospital said it was done to be able ...

I had not seen a mirror since I had been in the hospital. When visitors came, I just asked whoever was with me, if I looked ok. So I never knew that my appearance had changed so dramatically, that even my own child didn’t recognize me.
I hugged and kissed and kissed and hugged my little girl. She was still dazed from sleep and probably didn’t understand why this strange lady was hugging and kissing her. Her dad was watching and so was her grandma, ...

I was diagnosed with diabetes in July of 2001 as doctors tried to save my life.
Weeks before that day, I was rapidly losing weight but I thought it was just because of my extreme schedule. The country was in another upheaval. The media knew no rest. I hardly slept and ate at abnormal hours. I was in denial even as I felt my energy ebb out of me like a punctured water balloon.
Finally, a few days beforer that fateful day, I called in ...
