Cows, Pigs, and Brains at the Puyallup Fair

16 October 2009 7 Comments

This was the funnest and most adventure-filled summer my family and I have ever had.  It was also the most documented and most expensive.  We visited and enjoyed some of the best places that both Iowa and Western Washington have to offer.  From Adventureland, to the Amanas.  From Mt.Rainier, to Lake Quinault.  From Ichiro, to Lea Salonga.  And to finish it off, we went to our annual religous obligation—the Puyallup Fair.

The state fair is a 20-day summer affair in Washington and one of the biggest in the U.S.  It features  the biggest, the fattest, the fastest, and the cutest farm animals and produce, and  serves an endless supply of food that one can argue against global food shortages.  There are also a myriad of rides, shows, and exhibits.  Many attractions and the meals are quite expensive so I suggest eating and taking multiple public transport before coming.  And of course, we came during Military Family Appreciation Day so that we could all go in for free and saw most of the freebees.

This was yet another great opportunity for our family to learn and have quality fun time  together.  It is also a great way to teach our children appreciation of all the hard work involved in providing us with even the most basic everyday needs.  But one thing that they still haven’t quite figured out is how to tell whether I’m asking for an eating utensil or a piece of meat when I say, “Hend me da pork, plees.”

Which do you think is most disgusting?

  • chicken intestine skewer
  • pig’s blood stew
  • balut
  • hotdogs

MrNonsense is Jesse. He was born and raised by two solid parents in Tondo, Manila. He came to Iowa when he was 17 and is now raising a family in Washington, where a group of Filipinos adopted them as their own. Mr. Nonsense can often be seen in the Tacoma-Seattle area carrying a camcorder, accompanied by his two sons and his personal chauffeur, his wife. He uses his Tondo upbringing to nurture his children and to survive in a mental institution, where he currently works. He enjoys basketball, cooking, singing, cartooning, producing short movies, and making his own furniture out of junked wood because he's so cheap. He is a self-proclaimed "Man of the House,"...when his wife is not home.
