Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro: Lakas Standard Bearer for 2010

The Lakas-Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-Kampi-CMD) officials have finally spoken:
Gilbert ‘Gibo’ Teodoro will be their standard bearer for the Presidential Elections in May 2010.
The Defense Secretary won the party’s standard bearer against Chairman Bayani Fernando of the Metro Manila Development Authority when he got an overwhelming 42 committee members vote. Fernando only got 5.
Teodoro, though not a common household name is no stranger to politics as he belongs to one of the most powerful political clan in the Philippines – the Cojuangcos.
He is also a second cousin to Noynoy Aquino as Gibo’s mother Mercedes and former President Cory Aquino were first cousins. For the election, he may get a lot support from his super wealthy uncle, Eduardo Cojuangco, a former presidentiable who is very much affiliated with the Marcos family.
In addition, Gibo is widely known in the political arena because he has a lot of support from the Malacanang Palace and a member of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s inner circle. In fact, Arroyo has sent Teodoro on a largely quiet mission in the United States last September 10 by speaking at a forum by the right-wing Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. Sources even cited that the Defense Secretary ‘did his best’ to court the U.S. support for his presidency during the forum.
But the bottomline here is that:
Will all this matter in the upcoming 2010 presidential race? As far as I know, Gilbert ‘Gibo’ Teodoro is not even a frontrunner in the recently concluded SWS surveys.
But hey, he got connections already at his feet! I’m not sure nga lang if this will be in a good or a bad way.

Honestly speaking, que si Noynoy or si Gibo, magpakita muna sila ng doable na plataporma.
And to think the elections is somewhat the elections will turn into a battle of cousins. Magkamaganak sila via matrilineal line ng Cojuangco.

Alam ko galit ang mahal na reyna sa pekeng credentials. Ito ang ilan sa mga credentials ni Gibo na hinarbat ko sa column ni Capino sa Manila Standard. I’m sure hindi peke ang mga ito.
….What a candidate stands for is important. But so are credentials. A candidate with so-so credentials might be vulnerable to the influence of the strong personalities that we see hovering around certain candidates especially the cause-oriented types who sing “If we hold on together” before abandoning those they support.
Teodoro’s credentials are solid. Even at a young age he has shown a passion for public service. shortly after finishing high school at Xavier School, he was elected President of the Kabataang Barangay for Tarlac and concurrently President of Kabataang Barangay for Central Luzon. He was also a member of the Sanguniang Panlalawigan of Tarlac from 1980 to 1986.
He is a BS Commerce graduate major in Financial Institutions at the De la Salle University. He took up law in UP where he earned the Dean’s medal for Academic Excellence. In 1989 he topped the Philippine Bar exams.
He went to Harvard for his Master of Laws which he completed in 1997. The same year, he was also admitted to the State Bar of New York.
He is a licensed commercial pilot and a colonel in the Philippine Air Force Reserve.

i for one revels on his credentials. maganda. but he said one thing that i was disappointed. talamak ang corruption nang mga arroyo and here he is – he just said that it’s not his priority to run after the Arroyo’s. was that part of the bargain for him to be chosen as the admin’s bet? i guess alam na naten yon.

My point is, whoever candidate that GMA will endorse,it seems that she is representing bad odor to public.. dahil kalat na ang mabantot na amoy ng pambansang nunal.. damay lahat ng kandidato na nakikisuksok sa kanya.

Personally, Gibo has unblemished record. His only problem is his association with GMA and Danding. But who among the candidates were not associated, in one way or another, with “bad people”. Noynoy for one has his own kamag-anak inc.

Ang pekeng pangulo na walang ibang ginawa kundi magkamal ng salapi mula sa kaban ng bayan ay malapit ng mahusgaan.. papalapit na ang araw upang singilin siya ng kapwa niya tikbalang upang pagbayaran ang kayang mga kasalanan… at yan ay nasusulat.

This is my opinion.
Kapag hinayaan natin o bigyan pansin ng kandidato ni Gloria arroyo, kahit mahusay ang credentials katulad ni TEodoro, ay malaya pa rin si Panduck na imaniobra ang ating bansa.
I don’t have any question about Gibo, hindi ko siya minamaliit.. pero kung siya ay nasa side ni gloria and since Gloria is considered as the worse enemy, of course people will treat also same thing with Gibo and you can’t blame people who believe on that situation.
At wag na sanang hayaan ng taong bayan na magkaroon pa ng kahit na katiting na chance si gloria upang i mando ang bansa, dahil wala pa ring kahahantungan ang lahat ng hinaing. patuloy pa rin magdurusa ang Inang bayan.
Ang kongreso ay kayang-kaya n’yang paikutin, dahil natatapalan nya ng pera ang bwat tongressman. hindi malayong maulit yun kapag Alipores pa rin ni Panduck ang uupo sa Palasyo.

The administration got a big mistake for the selection of Se. Gilberto Teodoro. He his new besides he didnot even prove himself to the filipino people if he is capable.I Lakas Kampi a lot of persons more qualified instead of G>Teodoro.
Am sure this comming election he will be the biggest loser of all.

no question that Gibo has great credentials. kaso early on, he already said that he’s not gonna run after the arroyo’s unexplained wealth. also, shouldn’t he have resigned already as DND chief? i was listening to the video and he seemed irked that people wanted him to quit that post.
