Destroying Cory Aquino’s Legacy: CONASS

The 1987 Philippine Constitution is one of the legacies left to us by the former president Cory Aquino. I may not be a constitution expert but I know that this constitution is one of the best that was written here in our country. It details the respect of rights for our citizens like the inclusion of Bill of Rights. However, some of our Congressmen wanted to change this legacy by force! And for no clear reason!

In a news article:

Be afraid, be very afraid. Opposition leaders have warned President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo against clinging to power through Charter change, saying the unity displayed by Filipinos during former President Corazon Aquino’s burial could be a potent force against the chief executive.

“The number of people mourning for Mrs. Aquino should serve as a warning to (Arroyo). The time has come for Mrs. Arroyo to be afraid; be very afraid,” said San Juan Mayor Joseph Victor Ejercito, chairman of the United Opposition (UNO)-National Capital Region. Source.

Really, if they are trying to amend the 1987 Constitution, why they can just be transparent enough and show their proposed changes to the rest of the nation? Why resort to hurriedly pass the HR 1109 at the dead of the night and while the Philippines is in deep slumber? Actions speak louder than words. And these so-called lawmakers have forgotten that adage.

As  citizens indebted to Ninoy and Cory, the ideals they have fought for, lived and died for, we must stand guard to the legacies that they left us and prevent any threats against it. I believe that we have a good constitution, the problem lies in the implementation and the ethics of these so-called public servants. Public servants disguised as wolves. Public servants disguised as messiah of the masses but actually false prophets who are hell bent for serving their selfish agendas, their own self-serving objectives!

The strength of the people shown during Cory’s funeral procession is an indication that the people, ordinary citizens like us are not passive and apathetic. We may not go to every rally out there but we know what is happening to our country and our government. We know the nuisances in politics, the corruption in the bureaucracy and the erosion of values in our society. These supposed leaders should be guiding us for the good of the country and for all of us as a nation, but they are more interested in serving their selfish needs.

Surprisingly, if you remember years back, Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo was also against the so-called Charter Change. Wasn’t it ironic?

Politics in our country seemed always manipulated. Just like a screw, somebody have to use a huge screw driver in order to turn it and make massive effects across our society. Some of these effects are good but most of it, have gone horribly bad. Just like a batya full of talangka, everyone in the Philippine political arena are pulling each other down while the masses are longing for a leader to truly unite them and forge a nation that will work together in order to achieve its goals.

The divide et impera scheme of the Spaniards have run deep into our culture and compounded with regionalism. No wonder, the congressmen who passed HR 1109 are now trying to rip apart one of Cory’s legacy – the 1987 Philippine Constitution. Cory gave us back these institutions of democracy. If not for her, there will be no Congress. What do these Congressmen have to say now? Have they got no shame?!

I just hope that someday, a spark like those of Cory and Ninoy Aquino will arise in our midst and the people will not hesitate to defend the legacies of democracy that they left us.

I think Cong. Matt Defensor made a statement that the Con-Ass be junked na because there’s no time na raw. I recall it was this same congressman na tulak ng tulak sa Con-Ass. I’m sure takot na takot na ang mga lecheng to at baka multuhin sila ni Tita Cory. Unfortunately there are still whose greed can’t be measured by the metric system ang pipilitin na ipasa ito.

The 1987 Constitution is actually the worst Constitution written for the Philippines!

It created a multi-party system that allows a multitude of presidential aspirants to run, and yet there is no second round of elections (as used in most countries that have multi-party presidential elections, the USA is largely a two party system) to pit the top two winners (first and second) against each other.

The result is all post-Cory presidents are minority presidents who win only by plurality and thus have more people against them and thus are so weak. This weakness is what forces the executive branch to need to keep sweet-talking the senate and congress just to help the executive branch do what it needs to do, which if the president had majority support (rather than a mere plurality), would not need to do or would do less of.

The so-called high-level “corruption” or “influence-peddling” in government is nothing put an operational cost associated with the faulty system that the 1987 Constitution gave to us.

You call it the best? It’s the WORST. With the 1935 Constitution, at least it was largely a two-party play. But the 1987 Constitution turned the Philippines into the chaotic and barriotic place that it is today.

    The Best Constitution written?!?

How can that be when it continues to uphold a protectionist system that favors only the old rich? What is the whole 60-40 law but a ploy to discourage foreign investors from coming in, thereby protecting the monopolies owned by oligarchs from the old rich from any competition?

Well, if you properly analyze what the effects of this are, you will see why many Pinays become maids and putas abroad and why Pinoys are forced to become low-wage seamen or drivers in Iraq.

Because the monopolies owned by rich families hardly expand and create new jobs. Worse, since the entrance of foreign investors to the Philippines is discouraged by stupid 60-40 protectionist requirements, few new companies are set up and thus few new jobs are created.

No new jobs + huge unemployed population = putas + maids + seamen + low wage earners abroad

Best Constitution? How did that happen? Best kasi maganda ang pagkasulat? Or Best kasi maganda ang logic?

The 1987 Constitution is why we all have a big mess everytime elections occur!

The 1987 Constitution is why there is massive unemployment and underemployment.

The 1987 Constitution is why non-Filipinos, IN PRIVATE (for most) and IN PUBLIC (for some), LOOK DOWN ON FILIPINOS because of the menial, immoral and degrading jobs we are forced to take on abroad due to massive unemployment back home!

The 1987 Constitution is a piece of trash that needs to be changed in order for Filipinos to improve their lives.

Think again when you say that the 1987 Constitution is the Best Constitution written.

    It’s a piece of crap!
