Discrimination is everywhere even in the Philippines
Discrimination is everywhere even in the Philippines or should we say even between Filipinos?!
There were two (2) news articles yesterday on CNN that brought back memories. When my brother-in-law bought his first house in Philadelphia, our white neighbor put out a for sale sign of his house because he said “the japs are coming!”. That’s what his neighbors told him about that guy. I had a run on with that old man and boy, I bloody exchanged some heated words with that bastard! He’s rotting in hell now.
Then, I remember my niece, she would also be subjected to ridicule in school because according to the kids, people in Manila sleep in cartoons under the bridge and so the kids were asking how she survived in Manila for all those three years she went to Reedley. I planned something with the kids. They were mis-informed and I worked out my plans. It was a success. The ridicule would soon stop.
I have had my own share. I was working for an investment company in Philadelphia and would be told by one Vice President that I was not promotable because I don’t speak good English and I didn’t look like them. When I travelled to Chatanooga, Tennessee on a business trip, I was so unwelcomed in our branch, the business manager there calls me “little Jap”. Lately, I was terminated from my work because “you don’t fit the agency” says the black woman.
Wherever you go, there are rotten tomatoes. I might have had some bad experiences being discriminated but I have tons of stories also where white and/or black people supported me so much, cared for me so much, it’s short of adopting me. One of the best stories I ran into was Mike which you could read here, here and here.
Yesterday in New Orleans, a justice of the peace refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple and he says he has no regrets about his decision. He claims he’s not being a racist, but his actions are that of a racist. Just how could one separate his racist actions from being a racist? It doesn’t add up.
Just when you’ve had enough head scratching from this justice of the peace, world peace amongst immigrants is again on the line. “Illegal Alien” costumes for Halloween, started surfacing from novelty stores. Halloween is a big event here in the United States and it’s just around the corner. My friends are busy shopping for their get-ups. I’d just be me. Meanwhile, its too obvious from these illegal alien costumes that they are attacking illegal immigrants.
The “Illegal Alien Adult Costume,” manufactured by Forum novelties, includes an orange jumpsuit, similar to prison garb, with “Illegal Alien” stamped in black across the chest; a space alien mask; and a fake Green Card. The “Illegal Alien Mask with Hat” also includes a space alien mask, this time with a dark handlebar mustache and a baseball cap. Source: CNN
This is life in America. Once in a while, there would be some twisted soul who’d force their dsyfunctional ideas of what is right. But this is America. Action is swift and yes, it will be acted upon. But, one piece or double the news will not bring back the 50’s or the 60’s race riots at this time although it could be a possibility. Remember the Rodney King – Los Angeles riots in 1992? But these kinds of news in America will continue and its just up to all of us here in America or anywhere else to be vigilant and not let these types of news ran out of control to ruin our lives. We live and breath all types of discrimination virtually anywhere.
WAIT!
Did I say anywhere?!
Yes, I did.
Back in the Philippines, its even worse – where Filipinos discriminates against fellow Filipinos. I should know. I come from the province. In da barrio. Gaaawwd! Don’t start with me on how to apply for a job in the Phillippines if you’re one Barrio Siete graduate! Grrrr! Leche! That, I could tell you, it is ugly. Just to show you that discrimination is everywhere and Filipinos are just as blatant as the ones you read on American papers.

hahaha i love that che!
dito naman sa Amerika, the reason why i did not have any Pinoy friends during my 1st 5 years in America was that, pag me na-meet kang Pinoy ganito:
1. Unang tanong – anong trabaho mo? eh por hora lang ako nun. $3.5 an hour
2. Neks kestyon – anong kotse mo?
3. Saan ka nakatira – which is ok. Eh kaso, pag sinabi mong “North Philadelphia” walang maki-ki hangout seyo. mas type nila pag “Cherry Hill, New Jersey”
when i came to the US, we lived in North Philly. we would find out that we lived in the worst neighborhood in the city plagued with drugs, crime and everything. 2 doors down our house, they sell drugs and right around our neighborhood has been several gunbattles. eh di kami maka-alis nun because we were still saving money to buy a new house kaya nagdusa kami dun.
cherry hill was an upscale neighborhood NOON kaya once you mention the name, karamihan nang mga well to do pinoys lived in that area.
Re:
1…. anong trabaho mo?
2. Neks kestyon – anong kotse mo?
3. Saan ka nakatira
Hahahaha — derechahan!
oo! up to today, nalulungkot ako pag na-a-alala ko yon!
oo. we deal with that everyday of our lives. basta ba’t wag lang danger, iba na yun. just move on. me mga iba naman dyan na matitino. we could probably influence their thinking pero wala, we can never change one’s mentality
one time, me bisita sa reyna elena who posted an entry like that. grrr i remember now hahah si johnonymous!!! hahaha!
ok…This IS America and people are allowed to have an opinion. If he is sticking to what he feels is “biblical and Right,” then that is his right. Look how JESUS was persecuted for his beliefs…….I do not think this is Jesus, but he DOES have a right to his opinion.
The couple went somewhere else and got married. Big deal. It’s not like they couldn’t get married at all. gee whiz…..People need to stop making mountains out of mole hills. The opinion is what it is. Now interracial couples know they should not go to him. Period. Go somewhere else and live your life as YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO, just as he does. Quit trying to force YOUR beleifs on someone just because they are different. WOW…Ignorance can still be ignorance, as racism is still racism. Leave it alone.
ok bixby, we shall live u alone. btw, welcome to our diversed circle of friends. u got any stories of feeling prejudged and discriminated to share? coz that’s all we’re doing. we are shouting “kill all the non-conformist!” just frustrations…mostly about our own people…that’s all
your in for trick or treat – i’m very hard… i mean hard headed.
Report said, “”This was an ignorant attempt to poke fun at a small community,” said Cabrera.”
12 million illegal immigrants is a small community? Hmmm… That’s one heck of a small community. Hehehe! Imagine Belgium’s population is 10 million only.
i know! can you imagine? his last name alone is “cabrera”! that does not sound like an original indian american last name – rather – it sounds like another immigrant! what an idiot!
granted that immigrants are the smallest minority there is, still he cannot allow this crap at all! he is such a moron! grabe!
