Unlike Hayden Kho, he did not make a video of his celebrity sex partners. He took explicit sex nude photos of celebrities like Gillian Chung, Bobo Chan, Mandy Chen, Candice Chan, Rachel Ngan, Cecilia Cheung and his girl fried.
The Edison Chen photo scandal involved the illegal distribution over the Internet of intimate and private photographs of Hong Kong actor Edison Chen with various women, including actresses Gillian Chung, Bobo Chan, and Cecilia Cheung
One lesson that we can learn Virginia is that, ours is not entirely a damaged Filipino culture when people followed the Hayden –Katrina scandal.
The same is true in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. What is true is that, sex sells, regardless of race, government or a country’s economic condition.
The Edison Chen scandal was covered by high profile media attention locally and around the world. Many newspapers relegated coverage of the 2008 Chinese winter storms to secondary prominence during Chinese New Year; Apple Daily headlined the story consecutively from 29 January to 18 February.
Even in strict Mainland China, for several weeks, major sites published the photos and were viewed 20 million times a day. CD-ROMs of celebrity photos, were sold like hotcakes.
The photos were investigated and Chen indirectly admitted his role, expressed his remorse and withdrew from the entertainment industry.
He received death threats forcing him to leave Hong Kong to live in the USA, Canada and Singapore for the last 15 months.
The computer technician, Dicky Sze Ho-chun, was sentenced to jail after being found guilty of dishonestly obtaining access to the intimate photos.
The incident caused a heated public debate on the issue of privacy on the Internet.
And now Edison Chen is breaking his silence by granting CNN an interview on Wednesday.
