Update: Cory will be buried on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the family’s plot at the Manila Memorial park beside her husband, the late senator Benigno Aquino, Jr.

What you’re looking at is John F. Kennedy’s eternal flame. A month after arriving the United States of America, I had the privilege of visiting JFK’s burial site at the Arlington National Cemetery. Sa mga marami pang mga bisita sa bahay namen in Philadelphia, coming from Manila, Sydney, Toronto, London at pati na mga friends and relatives from all over the United States, this has been our usual tour. Ang mapunta sa Washington DC at bisitahin ang himlayan ni JFK.

I guess, you’re getting my point.

Oo. Pour moi, Cory Aquino’s eternal flame started sa EDSA when we all lighted candles and prayed our rosary. JFK is JFK. Cory is Cory. But in my heart, I believe it is fitting that there shall also be an eternal flame sa grave ni Tita Cory. She’s been one, single uniting force sa ating mga dysfunctional na Filipino. She’s been our guiding light, ke maniwala ka, ki hindi.

These tongressmen have no respect whatsoever! Yan ang personal na galet ko.

But if you have noticed, mula nung umalis si President Cory Aquino as President, she handed power gracefully at walang kyemeng handed over nya to ki President Fidel Ramos, another respectable leader naten. Since then, she’s been very, very consistent and resolute sa kanyang conviction for what is good for all of us. That’s the eternal flame na sinasabi ko.

I wish the Aquino Family would give the Filipino people a gift of an eternal flame sa grave ni Tita Cory. And if you agree with me, I invite you to blog about wanting to have an Eternal Flame for Cory Aquino and link up to this entry and I will list you all down.

Do I see a signature campaign starting right now?

Eternal flame for tita cory…yes, that would be a very good symbol for her.

    It’s a wonderful idea, Reynz.

I’m thinking perhaps the civil society, with the permission of the Aquino family, should erect an eternal flame for the late President, as a symbol of gratitude, and in commemoration of her great legacy to the country.

  • Mel says:

me too. I totally agree. she totally deserves something like that so she will always be remembered by the future generation.

  • Monique says:

I agree as well…. pero I think it’s a long shot. I hope it happens. Not just for Cory but for all of us not to forget…Tandaan po natin na ang mga kabataan ngayon doesn’t really understand kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng EDSA 1.

you could very well be right on this monique! these new generation of youtube babies have no clue kung ano ang nangyari nung 1986. for me, at least, it was such a privilege, naitago ko pa ang NAFREL ID ko sa Pasig, at ang aking litraks sa Malacanang a few hours na nilusob nang mga yellow brigade ang diktador noon.

      • Monique says:

Wow! I was like a kid pa nun… uhugin pa. But I remember that we weren’t supporter of Cory as my step-grandfather was part of the gagong guards (Police major eh) ni Marcos and Danding.

I remember I used to wear t-shirts ni Marcos/ Tolentino. And wore those buttons nila sabay shout ng Marcos pa rin. I was 5 when it happened.

But when I went to school and all… syempre nag-iba na. I wonder what kind of talks happen in the halls of the schools nowadays…

          • Monique says:

      • Chi says:

hihi me namfrel Id ka na non? di halata age mo kmahalan ha… Di ka ba natakot non? sobra gulo non di ba? wa pa ko muwang non pero ramdam ko na balisa ang mga oldies.

  • That is a fitting gift for her and her husband. But then, as long as we uphold the value of our democracy and as long as we continue to ask what we can do for our country (as she has imbibed), Cory’s eternal flame will remain in our hearts…

Today is a sad day in history but a glorious day in heaven. God’s faithful daughter has returned. I believe in my heart God’s welcoming message will be: “Well done My child, for a life well lived!”

She deserves nothing less. Statues of her should be erected. Books about should be a must read.
