Filipinos lack common sense

Yeap. That’s what I read on the Inquirer’s Opinion/Letters to the Editor page.
I thought for a minute that it was written by you-know-who, that is, if you are a regular here in B7 hehehe! React if you may, just don’t smash your keyboard, but hey! There seemed to be some traces of truth in what this guy is saying. Say?!
Now, moi?! I don’t believe Filipinos lack common sense! I think we lack everything! Well… ok.. nufff… forget what I said – you have me and Barrio Siete – just read the article please, before I lose control… la-la-la!
Here goes!
Filipinos lack common sense
By: Ryan Bosco
Filipinos tend to over-analyze simple, common sense issues. They romanticize problems that result in complacency and fear, if not stupidity. They are sensitive when their faults and weaknesses are pointed out by a foreigner, but when their fellow Filipinos steal from their country’s treasury, they become numb and lose their common sense.
Lack of common sense. This is the problem in the Philippines, not the intricate history of our country that many rely on in order to make sense of the state of our nation (which, by itself, validates the observation about a “government run like hell by Filipinos”).
Our government is run like hell because we allow the devils among us to control it. If we’re expecting the devils to improve things in our country, then we might as well expect hell to freeze. The devils steal our country’s milk and honey and their solution to the ever-worsening poverty is for everyone else to “be a hero and work abroad so that you can keep our hellish government afloat.”
No doubt the Philippines is being run like hell by its own people. But do not blame only the thieves in government. We should blame ourselves, too, for allowing the devils to steal.
Therein lies our lack of common sense. Our infernal government cannot possibly improve anything if we, the people, refuse to see our own faults and weaknesses, one of which is our failure to punish stealing. Until we find the courage to tap into our common sense, our country will not only end up like hell; it will become hell itself.
Think of the Philippines as your own house when you vote in May 2010. If you were to catch a thief inside your house, what would you do? Would you kick him out unpunished? Would you let him back in again? Would you pardon him instead? Would you trust him to be the steward or majordomo of your house?
What does common sense dictate to protect your house against thieves? If it demands punishment, then why don’t we Filipinos do it? It’s because we lack the common sense to overcome the fear that these thieves have sowed in our house and the control of the house they have wrested from us. We have become hostages in our own house. Only common sense will give us the courage to reclaim our house from these thieves. Every corrupt act that goes punished is a step away from what has eluded this former commonwealth—a government run like heaven by Filipinos.

Ryan Bosco hit the nail on the the head on this one. Looking back, I realized that the Villar C-5 extension issue, Hello Garci, Ampatuan massacre, along and the NBN-ZTE issue did not get as much “outrage” as the Daniel Smith, Malu Fernandez, Desperate Housewives line, or Boyet Fajardo issues where every Filipino seem so intent at giving a piece of his/her mind.
But I don’t think that it’s due to lack of common sense. I think that we have too much common sense. We know whom to argue or pick a fight with. We fight those whom we know will not get back at us.
Bakit walang malaking rally against sa foreign funded and foreign trained terrorist that set up base and prey on the people of Mindanao?
Reason? We have cultivated too much common sense that we pick our fight. We pick to fight only those who have no capability or interest to fight back and hold us accountable for our actions. Now this may be a misguided common sense but it is what it is. That’s how we are raised, huwag lumaban sa nakatatanda or may kapangyarihan kasi kawawa ka lang pag niresbakan ka.
So Anyways, sa darating na election, vote from your heart. Secret naman yan eh so huwag mahadlok sa resbak, hehehehe. Huwag gamitin ang mga misguided common sense kasi ang desisyon mo, maga resbak yan sa yo in the next 4 years.
exactly my sentiment with the left. yes, imperialism was always pretty much always the issue. but china is an imperialist in their own sense as well. and our sovereignty was also at stake regarding the issue of the Spratlys. why tight-lipped?
The reason is…..*drum roll, please~* COMMON SENSE!!!!
@kutz,
you couldn’t have explained it better. fear. that’s what it is. that’s why it’s easy for Pinoy to cry blood for desperate wives but not for all the corruption – blatant in your face corruption – because Pinoys knew where they get butter for their pandesal (a friend from down under told me this)
No doubt the Philippines is being run like hell by its own people. But do not blame only the thieves in government. We should blame ourselves, too, for allowing the devils to steal.
I thought common sense is so common, you could buy one box.
Hanep ah, parang declamation piece, hehehehe.
You have to stop labeling the masang Pilipino as ordinaryo noh!
Basta dun ako grupo ng magaganda, matatalino, mababait, masunurin, magalang, honest saka oozing with self-confidence.
will re-blog it first.

hoy hey manga barriosiete peeps:
lemme tell you a story.. In our barrio an american charity approved a construction of a travellers respite area ALIAS da waiting shed. It couldn’t have been bigger than my third toilet next to my garage. It has seats and all built with galvanized iron roofing and hollow blocks of concrete. So that everyone knew who donated it, the name of the charity was plastered in immortality through neon paint with the Mayors name prominently emblazoned on top like he owned the waiting shed.
wait theres more.
after it was officially opened (ie photos taken yadiyadiya obviously to send through as proofs) there was a TXT from a dear relative asking me to buy some cement, hollow blocks and some dos 4 dos. It was a great deal coz its going cheap.
I replied but arent they stolen?????? I am not going to buy stolen property!!!
The relative goes to say: NO its not stolen it is EXTRA from the construction of the waiting shed and the contractor (ie mayors man) wants to get rid of the surplus.
So there how do you fight selective “common sense”?
For me I will sumbong or tell them to return it talaga but for my relative in da Barrio she thought that blessings have dropped from the sky not even thinking that there was somethin wrong with accepting stolen goods. She was talking like it was a trickle down effect hahahahahah and I will pay for it anyway. So i sensed that paying for the stolen goods somehow creates legitimacy in my barrio cousins head. But watch out if you steal one coconut off her land, her kampilan and balasiong blades will come out before you finished saying HOY!!!! pesteng yawa kawatan. heheheh
And my relative is a very well travelled school principal not someone who begs for pandesal or praying for pandesal to arrive tomorrow.
maybe someone will sell me a mansion when they finish building the public market. nakakatruleleng talaga
hehehe love that story! typical barrio hahaha and why do i say barrio, aba eh parang nangyari den to in my place haha
which reminded me of one project by the church in my barrio. they went on a charity asking blah blah blah umabot nang america and yea, my parents helped in asking for donations.
when i went home, as in home in da barrio, like 5 years sum’tin sum’tin, i saw the project – pader sya, bakod nang simbahan, each block bears the name and the date of the donors! NAMPUCHA OO! mistulang LAPIDA sya
@ boldstar-
Wala yan sa istorya ng barrio namin! (Hehehe, parang bulagaan). Seriously, I swear ito totoo. Unless BFF kayo ni Ara Mina, you should have a clue sa political climate in the south davah?
Well, si Mr. Mayor namin, as in super blatant talaga mangurakot.
Do you think that was the first time that they ever did that? And so if you are in that situation, what does COMMON SENSE tell you to do? SHUT UP!!!
Yan ang istorya ng barrio namin. And that’s the reason too bakit although alam kong okay si Noynoy, I will not vote for him dahil sa aking pananaw, hindi talaga siya igagalang ng mga thugs in power.
(Where is Jet, kailangan ko ng second de mowshun mo!!!)

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Malapit mo na akong makumbinse Kutz, malapit na. I know, the Yellow color has already been invaded by kurakots kaya nga nakaka-irita and that could very well be true na he might not just really be able to manage these thugs!
BUT!
Hopeful ako! You know, MISS HOPE. hahahaha! Kaya Team Noynoy pa rin! Hahaha!
Konting shiatsu massage na lang ba? HAHAHAHAHA, alam mo Reynz kung bumaliktad sila – Mar for president, Noynoy for VP palagay ko mas maganda.
