The Commission on Audit (COA) recently released the records of expenses incurred by the members of the Philippine Senate. Listed below are the top 10 spenders among the 23 lawmakers:

1. Senator Gregorio ‘Gringo’ Honasan (P17.90 mil)
2. Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada (P17.52 mil)
3. Senator Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla (P17.48 mil)
4. Senator Antonio Trillanes (P17.20 mil)
5. Senator Francis Pangilinan (P17. 224 mil)
6. Senator Benigno Aquino III (P16.79 mil)
7. Senator Juan Ponce Enrile (P16. 29 mil)
8. Senator Rodolfo Biazon (P16.02 mil)
9. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano (P16 mil)
10.Senator Pia Cayetano (P15.92 mil)

Senator Joker Arroyo is still dubbed as the ‘most frugal lawmaker’ because he only spent P12.64 million in 2008. The 83-year old Arroyo has also been known as the most low-spending senator  ever since he became a member of the upper house in 2001.

The list of expenses was issued by Atty. Emilio Asiur, a resident auditor of the Philippine Senate.

ABS-CBN also reported that:

A big part of the expenses went to the compensation of their staff and to other maintenance and operating expenses, which, according to a 2002 report by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, is a mix of expenses for advertising and compensation received by legislators for heading committees.

Pretty interesting that Trillanes spent P17.20 mil even though he is locked in prison. Hmmm, ano na ba nagawa ni Trillanes, matanong ko lang po. :)

As for Sen. Honasan, I want to know how he spent the money in details. I would also like to know Noynoy’s expenses too. :)

    Snow,

I found this on the Inquirer. I like this Senator pa naman. I don’t understand the expense charges.

Jailed Senator Antonio Trillanes spent P250,000 in travel expenses while languishing in prison on rebellion charges.

    • Snow says:

how can a jailed senator have traveling expenses? umaalis ng kulungan??? hmmm…

      • reyna elena says:

        ansabi:

“Local television quoted his chief of staff Reynaldo Robles as saying it was money well spent by his staff, who had conducted outreach and medical missions to depressed areas of the country on behalf of the jailed senator.”

        “outreach and medical missions”

I’m confused if this is really part of a senator’s job doing outreach and medical missions.

Naman naman namannnnnn!!!! Punyeta nakakagigil talaga!

In aid of legislation, daw, PWE!!!

    • reyna elena says:

hahaha nabuhay ka Kutz! kumusta na ang ato nga studies? anyway, yeah it would be interesting to see the breakdown of expenses nang mga Senators. mga walang audit audit yan. i hear na piece of paper lang pirmahan, expenses na.

  • Monique says:

Sum up all those money, ang daming classrooms, livelihood projects, houses and all those na kailangan ng mga kababayan natin to stand up again, esp mga sinalanta ng calamities, victims of ano anong tradgedies… tsk tsk tsk….

I did not expect Gringo to be the top spender, mas nasa isip ko pa na si Villar, well, sabi nga, mayaman na siya… ang laki na ng nakuha niya sa C5… oops!

    Trillanes? hmmm.. very interesting…

  • Snow says:

  • Mel says:

matagal nang walang ngipin ang COA. i wonder how the senators’ financial statements looked like.

    • Snow says:

This is so sad Mel. Imagine sis, tayong mga private citizens are required to declare all our earnings and expenses up to the last centavos. Dapat may mga valid receipts to support every claims.

But lo and behold, look at them gurl! They should practice what they are preaching…tsk..tsk…

  • BertingLabia says:

to be fair nman, sana nkalagay din kung san gnamit expenses… kay Trillanes kasi obvious, sa bail bond tsaka sa multa dahil hindi umaatend ng mga session… bwahahaha
