Stench and All!: Hello Garci! in Janette Toral’s 2009 Emerging Influential Blog Awards

Photo from Inside Story Flashcards.Com
And yes, here we go again and this time it’s Janette Toral’s 2009 Emerging Influential Blog Awards… I lost interest in this award eversince some links of sponsors where rammed into our throats supposed to be included in every votes which later was made optional… whatever! And when I say lost interest, I mean lost interest in participating and nominating new bloggers. I never join in awards myself especially if I am the beneficiary of the award, long story… Anyhow bahaw, Last time the Influential Blog awards as far as I can remember, and please do correct me if I am wrong, doesnt require so many confusing rules like “your votes will not be counted if they are not ten” etc. I will not question that since it’s the prerogative of the organizer. I will leave the matter to them.
I was actually on the sidelines when this issue was raised and I think I told some Barriotics here that I will do first my own investigation before I comment and air my side. This is to be objective since, like what I’ve said, I am not involved in this “sham” and I have no interest of wasting time and wasting page ranks just to link and be forced to link blogs just and make the nominees tenfold. After all, this hoolabaloo just caters to a certain blog for link farming, front na lang yung awards. Becauwse if its not link farming, why dont we just comment on the blog and count it as a vote? But thats not the issue here.
To the winners, I have no intention of putting you all in the spot. I am very happy that you all won and recognized. Some of you know me and I am very independent minded. Some of my Barrio Siete friends here can attest to this. I have no intention to malign your awards. It’s just that there are some valid points that I discovered which I want also to bring to light and be clarified. It will be a sin of ommision or an injustice to truth itself if I will just mum for the sake of friendship. I do hope you know where I’m coming from. And in fairness to Reynz, whatever her temperament it is his. I have known him for three years and the least thing he wants is another sham on another awards. He just wants truth and fairness. I must also admit that her points were well researched and thought provoking that even an independent mind like me cant help but ask and look for answers myself.
This is the reason why I investigated the matter myself. I dont want to be biased. Just because a fellow barriotic raised the issue doesnt mean that I wont question his take or avoid playing devil’s advocate, simply not. On the contrary, I was the one who asked for a thourough investigation. And again in fairness to Reyna, he did his homework very well. Ironically some of you felt uncomfortable.
All i want and maybe some silent observers and readers wanted also, is the truth. That is why I am raising this issue which you are about to read so that many questions can be clarified. Forgive me if some statements may seem close-ended or already held judgment but in all honesty, I’ts not my intention, I have written it to ask, inquire and stir the mind, and not to label…
Going back, so as I was reading the comments section I saw this comment of reynz, posting an email sent to him. What struck me is this:
I am more concern about the enthusiasm of these kids, once some people get to their blogs and say ‘unfriendly’ things. You have always fought for fair and accurate reporting, but this time Reynz, you judged these students as illegitimate bloggers just because they made noise by participating in the EIB project? Take your investigation further if you must Reynz. You have left everything hangging in a free-for-all scenario, and I am really concerned for these kids. Interview them if you want to, these are college students who can answer for themselves. Do the ‘fare and accurate’ reporting you’ve been advocating Reynz.
this is my take:
Support for Students
It’s true, we must all be fair to new bloggers especially students. And i commend the teacher and the one who sent the email for encouraging these students to take part in the growing blogosphere BUT…
Blogs vs. Splogs
What is the purpose of this project of theirs? I read them all and they are not even considered blogs. Blog came from the word log which is synonymous to Journal and I dont see any journal in these (chem blogs) blogs. When we say journal, it came from the word journey, thus, these blogs should at least have a “personal touch in them” aside from the fact that their faces graced the profile picture, but the rest is like bot-generated. All I see are copy pasted materials from the web.
I am also a professor in the university before, Nursing and a thesis adviser in the Masters to be exact and I discourage my students from copying from any sources verbatim. I always tell them to translate everything into their own words. It stimulates their brain even more when they think…
Now my question is, what is the values we are inculcating to these students? copy paste? I have screen capped all of the entires, yes each and everyone of them so that if ever someone contests my testimony i can always show what I saw and read.
To prove my point, I traced the articles they posted through Copyscape.com, an anti plagiarism website and lo and behold, all of them are just copy pasted.
It is not a sin to copy paste material, just make it sure you insert a paragraph or two or your personal thoughts and cite it as an example and reference. But in this case, all were copy-pasted as is.
So where is the essence of the project here? Ano ang ginegradan natin dito? yung copy pasted articles? Hmmm, I am also a professor and no right-minded professor will pimp their students to create a blog just to copy paste from sources.
Website articles are shallow. they are intended for general reads. That’s why we have textbooks. Science and medical students cannot rely on the net, its always on the textbooks. Andun lahat ng detalye. Andun lahat ng essence ng subject. Why not just ask the student to dwell in the textbook if the purpose of the project is for learning in the first place? To ask the students to base their education on the internet articles is absurdity. Website articles are intended for reference only.
And why copy paste if there are already existing articles? Don’t tell me that they are just providing articles for other chem students kasi that’s a very weak alibi. Hindi ba mas convenient para sa kanila na just paste the URL instead of copy pasting the whole article? which brings to my own wondering na, di kaya, kaya kinopy paste is to just show that the blogs are legitimate?
Pictures from afar are attractive. It is when you come near to it and see the details that shows its true quality.
To substantiate my investigation, here is a screencap from Copyscape.com which listed the websites where they copied the articles:
So are these blogs worth any grades, wherein the contents are copy pasted, if not some silly poems or a picture of them? Are they legitimate blogs or splogs kahit pa may profile pictures? hmmmm
Benefit of the doubt
In my personal investigation, i have also uncovered that these blogs are kind of a virtual assignment. To be fair, I find these blogs as the teachers’s extension of her classroom. Okay, lets give credit and benefit of the doubt. The blogs are of individual ownershipo of students? fine. The blogs are updated by the students themselves, fine. These blogs are legit in a sense that these blogs have actual real persons behind? fine. But what botthers me is the logic behind these blogs. First, why do these blogs are dictated by the teacher? I mean, in my investigation, the teacher has assigned topics for the students which they have to blog. But then again it defeats the purpose of the blog. Once a blogger is only dictated by someone what to write about, therefore its like a mcahine operating only at the whim of the operator. Blogging what has been asked of him or her. Therefore, technically speaking, the blogs has no mind of its own. It only operates at the dictates and command of the teacher. Therefore, i can very well say that these blogs are like bots-controlled splogs, only this time they are actual humans. What is the sense of these blogs when she dictates what to blog? Are the blogs legit? yes and no.
Yes they are legit in a sense that “probably” there are real humans behind the blog. But legit as blogs in the strictest sense of the term? definitely not. So why would illegitimate blogs be counted as votes on the contest? hmmm its confusing.

Gratitude
According to my own investigation, the teacher, in her chemistry explorer blog, has assigned two of the winners to be the moderator of these chem blogs. She even encourage these students to blog hop and say thank you to the two moderators. Now the question is, there is a gratitude in between philantrophy. And this gratitude may or may not play on the role of skyrocketing the votes. hmmmm makes sense. If the terqchers says, okay vote for the bloggers who helped you, who am I to resist the command? I am a student, she is the teacher. The same kind of Gratitude that President Joseph Estrada and President Gloria Arroyo bestows on their amigos and amiga in exchange of a favor… recently, that of Carlo J. Caparas and Decil Guidote Alvarez’ nomination as National Artists… same gratitude. Perfectly makes sense.
This is one of the comment of the winner I found here which he thanked the students before the contest, and was planning to meet them (?) further confirming my theory of “gratitude”. It was dated August 4, 2009, as the 6th commenter: I am not saying that this is wrong. I am just saying that there is definitely a “Gratitude”.
Serial Numbers and Digits
Another point that I want to raise is why are these blogs numbered? even the domain url are numbered.

The title of the blogs are even serializzed as to Clin Chem Blogs 01 and so on. Isnt it a fact that when you ask students to come up with their own blogs it is very unlikely that they will have an organized number system. Ano yun nagbunutan? “O ikaw ang number 1, ako ang number two etcetera”
In a very realistic setting, when a teacher asks the students to create blogs, and sign up, they will have different domains, they may even use pseudonyms, nicknames and handle and not real names. I tell you, college students and HS students are fond of using alternate names in the internet. Given na nirequire ng teacher that these student use their first names, but why the number and the serialization of the domain which is very obvious that it seems, only one person registered or signed up the blogs. Unless of course these blogs where made for them by someone. only to be filled up by them, by copy pasting of course, just to make it appear real.
Rocking the Vote
Another surprising result of my investigation was this. I tried putting the url on copyscape, com of one of the chem blogs entries of the Influential ek-ek votes. And to my surprise, copy paste returned results, obviously from the other chem blogs.
Why…, even the votes were copy pasted from one chem blog to another.
Lets go to the real world. In the real world, when you ask a student to vote, kahit papaano may mga differences sa typo, sa articles, sa spacing, sa enumeration and not an exact replica.
and one might wonder that even the chronology of the blogs and bloggers were identical. Suggesting of course it was copy pasted also.
Do they know them?
Why in the world would these students vote for some bloggers they dont even know? Given, sige, that they know the bloggers and this is a project and a requirement, pero what do they know about these awards? Unless of course the teacher told them about an award and they were asked to vote because she and her friends were nominated, which comes to my next point…
Concern for Students
One of the issues raised in the email is being concerned with the students. If we are really concerned with these students, di ba dapat we will teach them the right way to blog? Of all people, tayo pa ang hindi nakaisip na copy pasted yung mga articles nila and copy pasted materials are not blogs at all… they are splogs!
Therefore, the concern that was raised is void and null from the very instance we perpetuated, participated and tolerated these nonsense. If we really want to help the students, show them the real manner of blogging: blogging from the personal experience, from the heart and of course from original posts.
Thats why these blogs are so unqualified to vote, why? its because it was just a requirement. Any student who is asked to have a requirement will do anything just to pass… which brings to mind my next point.
Usurpation
I just want to ask why did the teacher let the students blog for the purpose of requirement and worst for voting? This is abuse of power and usurpation. We professors are paid to teach and not use any students in our personal interest specifically in voting.
Given sige, na willing at voluntary ang mga students na iboto ako halimbawa, pero I know very well that they are not really bloggers, they are doing this for a project, thus their presence as a voting block is not at all valid. ipagpalagay na natin na gusto nila ako iboto, pero I am their teacher. I very well know that in some point or another, I will use them. I should know very well these things kasi Prof ako.
Students are there just to learn and our duty is to teach. They are not there to create blogs, and then vote for us. They can create blogs, but definitely not use them as a voting block.
kahit pa anong rason we all know in our hearts that these are twisted ways.
And I thought this will just be an issue of votes. Pero it seems its larger than life. This is a big issue, why? because some of us, particularly learned people like us took advantage of the students. Yes they can speak for themselves pero not all judgments to them are wise, righteous and true. What is the limitation of our projects for students? This should be clear, in my case I will never ask my student to do a project which I will benefit from the result. It should always be them and not me. The Mirror has two faces and sometimes the opposite reflection cant help but cringe at our own being and existence.
If these is the kind of support and value we are teaching the students, well, what can I say, no wonder the educational system in the Philippines is just as twisted as the awards themselves.
Social and Political Implications
This whole brouhaha reminds me of Ferdiand Marcos during the snap election wherein he ordered then Ministry of Defense Secretary Juan Ponce Enrile to stuff the ballot boxess in Cagayan with padded votes.
It also reminded me of Gloria Arroyo’s phone call of then COMELEC Commisioner Garci about the votes she wants to secure.
You see, these is the kind of mud which we allow orselves to wallow. What is unbelievable is that, even in the level of the education system, teachers fail to uphold morality and ethics just so they can deliver a solid voting block.
The issue here, for me, is not about the blogs themselkves, though I wrote about them abouve, just to point out some issues I have discovered, but then again, its about the scandalous manipulation of the votes, kumbaga numbers game. Given its a popularity contest, but then again,. even popularity contests like this requires truthfulness, honesty and credibiilty.
You see, it all starts here, in the very classrooms. Students will think that its okay to drive a voting block out of gratitude, maybe requirement or worse coercion. Where is the free will in that? if the teacher is really concerned with the students, she should have not dictated to them who to vote for. Let them decide for themselves. Ang nakakatuwa pa nga nito, some of the votes are also copy pasted. I’ll just copy paste the votes and then my grades will be okay. As simple as that. But then again, who to blame, who is the mastermind and who is the instigator of such a sham? who knows?
Ganyang ganyan ang administrasyong Arroyo. She will make the congress rally behind her even if the proposed bill is immoral, yet they will win because its a numbers’ game. Forget morality, forget truthfulness, forget transparency, forget sanity and forget values. Glorify the numbers game. Walang pinagkaiba sa sitwasyon ng bansa natin. Mag Bingo na lang tayo sa perya!
In this case, ano kapalit ng pagboto, plus 5 or flat 1? Is this what we call democracy? last time I remember, when we vote for someone, voluntary yun, walang kapalit…
Now one of the issues raised, something to this effect is, na wag nating idamay ang estudyante and label them as illegitimate bloggers. And yet it is Barrio Siete’s fault that these students are dragged on the issue? Hmmmm.
Nakakahiya, kasi even in the blogosphere, the stench of traditional politics is very much in the air. And to think we fly on our blogs the yellow ribbon which symbolizes democracy, we promise that we are the new media and we commit for a new Philippines, and yet… . Tsk tsk!
Truth Will Prevail
This beautiful quotation: “Truth will prevail,” is an apt quotation for this post. No matter how you hide the truth, and no matter how you cover it up, it will always shine in all its glory in the end. It is such a beautiful thought and simultaneously a time tested adage that we often ignore. Experience had proven though, that indeed this is true.
The truth has already been uncovered as far as I’m concerned. And yes, my former profs int he seminary always taught us well, going even further as saying “be careful, because truths can be twisted, even thrown against you. Truth is always used for the wrong reasons and for twisted ideologies”. Therefore, with the teacher’s plea, yes the truth has been unveiled. The only question is, how much of these truths that were uncovered are they willing to accept and own? Truths that are selected are not truths at all. Truths are not compromised. Truths are not twisted and eventually truths are not used for personal vested interest. Truths are uphold and exposed as it is. No plagiarism, no fabrication and definitely no manipulation.
The blogs voted by these Clin Chem Bloggers are worth your precious time, I can assure you. These are truly emerging blogs which could positively “influence” people across the globe. You’ll come across interesting , artistic, entertaining and info- laden posts in these blogs. Being influential for me is being able to evoke the positive traits from your readers, and I am proud to be a Jedi Blogger!
how contrary to what true Jedi Masters uphold. Remember, Anakin Skywalker was a former Jedi Himself… only to be succumbed by the dark force and eventually become Darth Vader. The question is not about the present status of being a Jedi Blogger. The question is, what will you become of a Jedi in the near future… if all you do is usurp power and manipulate votes, being mum of the whole truth and nothing but the truth…
My parting words would be, “In time, truth will prevail.”
Like the ancient axiom goes… Be Careful What you Wish For…
Better and not Bitter
Like what I’ve said, when this bomb exploded, I was in the sidelines. Yet, in pursuit of truth, I am now actually asking the concerned to answer these questions which I have asked in lieu of everything I have discovered.
Barrio Siete for all I know is not bitter. Some of you were not even bloggers yet when some other blog awards were questioned in Reyna Elena’s blog.
Ever since, the principle is not war. Its always uncovering the truth so that a better solution can be drafted within the confines of problems. Pero the pivotal point on why we blog in the first place here in Barrio Siete is not just finding common grounds. But also upholding credibility.
If in an instance, the situation has been reversed, and Barrio Siete has won and the votes came from the chem blogs, would anyone inside the barrio complain? I assure you yes! And Me and Buraot are one of them. Because I believe that awards are empty recognitions. Truth has always been the shining glory of our credibility. And not this petty award, allegedly, a piece of certificate would not stand against us in upholding what is right. That is only “if”. But ironically, the grand scheme of things destined that we do not share in this kind of sham. Timano, hindi kami ang binoto sa daya. At dun pa lang nagpapasalamat na kami.
Some of you might think na we have the same level of thinking… we are not. Ajay of Manila Bulletin (sorry Mam Ajay for the name-dropping) is one witness to this. We argue and share differences via private messaging and I tell you, the arguments are fierce, corteous and respectful, but fierce.
And this has been a Barrio Legacy ever since, Unity in Diversity. If it seems that we are united in our stand, I tell you, its because we went to a difficult process of deliberation and discernment before the final decision to go public has ever achieved. Some of our members are silent, some are not, some agree, some are mum. But this cannot be the reason why we should not divulge our investigations. We expect that each member has its own allegiance, yet the right to understand and respect the stance of each writer is upheld.
Therefore why rant? As what a certain blogger said. Alam pala namin na popularity contest. alam pala namin na pwedeng dayain, then why did we join?
It’s because we formerly believed that Ms. Janette Toral would not allow this kind of sham. Obviously we were wrong. And we are sorry for that little possibility that we overlooked.
We are not bitter… we want BETTER!
Piece of Sheet
My last questions are these:
Ms. Jamette, why did you even bother accepting these blogs on the basis of voting, whereas for all we know these are a project and not in essence bloggers in the strictest sense of the world. Is it because the links that will come in on your own marketing blog will somehow skyrocket the PR or perhaps the Technorati Rank?
Ms. Janette, how come that you dont want to reveal the spreadsheets and tabulation kahit tapos na ang proclamation? The alibi that you are avoiding spammers to discover other blogs just dont make any sense. The mere fact that you ask the votes to be visible in a post/vote, wherein blogs are enumerated, just defeats your argument.
Is it controversial (The Spreadsheets) like Madame Arroyo’s Statement of Assets and Liabilities? o isa na naman yang tab sa Le Cirque?
Kung ganon, there is really something cooked in the kitchen… and yes we can smell it from here…. Stench and all…
Sa totoo lang Ms. Janette IKAW ANG PUNO’T DULO NG LAHAT NG TO’… ANG DAMI MONG SPONSOR, MINSAN NAMAN MAGBIGAY KA NG TROPHY!
***UPDATE – AUGUST 12, 2009***
And you thought our investigation ends here? Nope. Apparently Barrio Siete Investigative Bloggers Team has uncovered a very questionable block of votes. The said winners were indeed winners but with the question of where did the votes came from? Most of those votes didn’t came from actual bloggers but social network users who happens to have a blog-related feature in their account. Hmmm it seems they really deserve to win kasi KINARIR TALAGA NILA PANGANGAMPANYA. Incredible how these people would go through all the effort of swaying all of their non blogger friends just to have a vote block LOL Imagine, baguhang mga bloggers pa lang yan, pero ang mga istilo sa pandaraya veteran na LOL How much more kung magtagal pa sila sa blogging… you can just imagine. No Offense to those who came from Pampanga, but it seems these chem bloggers, some of the winners are also from Pampanga — Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is also from Pampanga… hmmmm Hello Garci, Istatue? LOL

ser blupan, 2x ko ata inulit basahin ang post mo at napapalakpak ako! well said.period.
I have been very notorious in my opinion when it comes to awards.
and not only that Dencios,
ano ang napala nang estudyante dito?! what would become of the student once na lumabas nang school and becomes a politician?! wanna guess kung bakit wala tayong pagbabago?
akala naten sapat na na magbuwis nang buhay si Ninoy and Cory for all of us to straighten our lives, pero sa sulok pala andami pang hindi marunong sumunod sa mga pangaral and worse! kung sino pa ang dapat magturo, kalechehan ang dala?!
nasundot mo.
if i know it right, maglalaho na sila bigla at wala ng pakealam sa resulta. kaya ayun na apply sa lipunan nila kaya tignan mo hindi nagiging successful.
at dahil sinabi natin baka gumawa sila ng back up plan. haha. sana mas succesful yun kasi pag may nakita tayong butas sa backup plan, yari sila. hehe
very nice blue! really nice and i like your take this time na me evidence at nakikita. tulog na muna ako but definitely will be back with what i have in mind dahil you’ve pointed out some real and serious flaws both nung awards, nung organizer nung teacher and even nung winners dahil nilunok na lang nila knowing na peke yong mga nagboto sa kanila! sick!
haha you said it dencios. pag yan, si chuvaka at si mel nagsama sama asahan mo tilian to the max yang mga yan hahahaha
denz,
mahirap matuwa pag ka nagamet ka na naman. i was used and abused before and akala ko dahil La Kapitana na ako, tumigil na! this time around, mas grabe pa tong pang-gagamet na to because even these Jedi Winners used me!
kelangan ko nang todo-todong explanation sa mga Jedi Winners na to, ki Janette Toral at ang what is see is promotor nang Hello Garci na si Jena Isle.
haha ayan you’re back. How the hell did you sleep?
Don’t make tulog! Let’s make baka!!!
you know fully well, kung saan ko gustong dalhin ang lecheng issue na to and I am surely headed that way at di ako titigil unless these people correct their mistakes and shit scams!
hahah naku wag na reynz its not worth it haha.
Where is the money (Copper) now?
kaso ang problema she “dragged” her students into the blogosphere! buti sana kung ang subject nila eh English 101?!
eto namang janet couldn’t recognize a blog from a class notes website! basta bumoto, may i count sya…tuloy yung mga legit blog who voted, di nya na na-count. huh? what gives?!
psst reynz..kala ko tulog ka na?
hahahaha!!!!!!!!!
of course, I already know na di papayag ang university na ang isang professor nila is also a professional blogger? or at least a blogger and has ilan ba ang blogs nya? di ko na mabilan.
use her students to vote? at nag-banta pa na marami daw incoming students that she can make harbat to vote?! Puta! an tapang magmayabang ni hindi na naisip na me ethics dapat ang mga professor! leche oo!
hahaha! of course mahirap ang lagay nya kasi isa syang university professor..may ethics at protocols na susundin.
unless she is blogging anonymously??? hahahaha! kung ako ang university professor, manahimik lang ako na mag-blog with pay on the side. secret kumbaga. sa hirap ng buhay kasi ngayon eh kelangan ng sideline.
i was still employed when i started blogging. pero personal-level lang yun. wala pang nagbabayad sa akin…but then i was so scared…kahit officemates ko ayaw ko malaman nila.
hahahaha!!!
Question:
~kamot ulo~
@silver,
i don’t think me presidential decree sa teachers na bawal mag-blog. ang bawal which is like an unwritten rule is that kung you are already derelict of your duties as a professor.
what’s worse eh etong na-point out ni blue about usurping powers.
that’s what it is.
@Reynz, Glow at Silver – I don’t think its a conflict of interest when you are a college prof and a blogger at the same time. I dont think also that when you earn money in blogging it is already incompatible with teaching. I dont even think na masama to some extent yung magkaroon ng extension of studies sa internet.
ang masama sa nakikita ko at gusto ko sana iklaro ni teacher ay bakit kasama ang bata sa pagboto? and all of the above issues i raised.
Wala kasi sa investigation ko at di ko naman napatunayan na the teacher is using the studs in earning money. Problema na niya yun. di ko na sakop yun. basta ang focus ko lang is on the voting itself, the objective of the chem blogs, the manner by which the chem blogs are written and yun nga, usurpation of power.
The above article remains inconclusive until they answer the issue direct, clear and straight to the point. If they continued their silence, then i think thats the time the readers and bloggers will judge this matter for themselves.
Reyna,
Bloop,
I agree with your mala-Harvard na investigation. Same views as with mine too.
glo,
there is no violation for a professor to blog as long as it is related to her expertise or is academic in nature that may make learning process easier.
there is also no violation if the blog is personal as long as she does not use the university resources/facilities and time.
for personal blog, a professor or university instructor should ideally not put the name of the employer and should refrain from
writing a lot about herself if she is using her real name.
in this case, the person under scrutiny uses a a different name for her personal blogs but then it is linked to her real persona in a group blog where writers have to present their credentials.
the issue was usurpation of power over the students in involving them to vote and to engage in promoting businesses in their otherwise academic-oriented blogs.
Heheh.
thank you for this very nice entry. exactly my sentiments, naunahan mo lang akong i-blog hhahaha
@Malen – Oo nga naunahan kita haha, we have the same wavelengths and frequency haha. dapat pala bords collaboration natin ito.
ang haba.pero natapos ko din. and i have to agree that there was an abuse of power somewhere. this is just too sad.
@Dinah – salamat at napagtyagaan mo. Very convoluted minsan ako magsulat haha
Its the way I see it, but its only my opinion. It still remains inconclusive until the teacher decides to clarify some things… and yes until Janette shows the spreadsheets.
I agree with you all guys, talagang very evident na ginamit niya ang kanyang authority para magamit niya ang mga students to vote for him, and to you reynz, kailangan mong magpahinga para bukas may lakas ka na naman sa work at sa B7
Hello An2nette. We still dont know the exact reason of the teacher. She already said her piece on her blog and she said its her first and last entry about the hoolabaloo, but I hope she would clarify things. Its for her own good.
Ang galing Bluep. If there is one thing i like about these fiery posts – it is the hunger for truth grounded on evidences rather than backdoor manipulations and hearsays. I can only surmise that perhaps, Reyna Elena, though unfortunately might have been hacked at the height of this Awarding occasion, only at the end of its tail is the pursuit of truth especially from B7 becomes more demanding, hungrier, fiercer. There are no coincidences. The more one hides the truth, the more it sloughs off on its way to freedom anything, painful facts included. This is what i sense is happening, investigative blogging on the surface but a burning fire for the truth as raging as a red bull. Reynz’ question to one former Helium writer struck me, on how much she was earning then. The desire for money, that is, earning online, is apparently one root cause. Even from Jan Geronimo’s blog, especially his tribute to Jena Isle and the rest of utang na loob tribute to her as an “incomparable friend” mentioned about how she has helped the gang earn online, on maximizing money while blogging. The desire for FAME is another. How vainglorious and conceited this Award turned out into! Yes, as Reynz said, very anti-Cory!
yes dFish,
first, blue did a wonderful job in explaining this scam from an academian’s perspective. kung totoong professor yan si Jena Isle then she should respond to Bluep dahil palpak yong response nya saken about THE TRUTH.
walang pinag-kaiba to sa pulitika. and we are facing an educator and a person spearheading some blogging movement na dapat we should show some standards but rather, pinagpapatuloy lang ang turo ni Gloria Arroyo on Hello Garci.
this is totally and ridiculously unacceptable!! hindi tayo mga tanga! this is what we fight sa government na linisin and here we are! out in the blogs! mga kalechehan to the highest level! gamit pa mga estudyante!
@Reynz actually i give you the credit because it was your dedication to know the truth that motivated me in pursuing this self investigation, not that this matters or this is very significant, but just an ordinary blogger;’s take on the issue. Remember ako pa nga ang very wary noong una kasi nga i felt Janette’s award ek ek is too petty to even give imprtance. Pero there are so many things that meets the eye and so big an issue that maybe found beneath the tip of the iceberg.
And yes it somehow reflects the current state of our government. so sad that this has to happen after the burial of the icon of democracy
@Dfish, Igsoon
the truth will always set us free
mahirap maghaka haka ng walang ibidins
haha isa ka pa intrigero haha we still do not know who hacked reynz blog. Under imbestigador pa rin yan c/o KK haha
thats waht im telling people from the very start. Truths cannot be hidden and manipulated. Sometimes its painful to be brought into the spotlight when the truth itself which you vigorously hide is the very culprit of your ordeal. Ironic but true.
I disagree with this igsoon haha. I think its none of our business if they earn or not. It’s their business actually and no one has the right to probe that, unless of course if they are still using the students which I doubt that they would stoop to that kind of level. Anyway, greed for money or not, whether its fact or fiction, i think the best issue here that needs to be answered is the votes. Privacy na nila yun and i think its too rude for all of us to invade that level of privacy.
For the pursuit of an empty and vain award they will compromise their values and integrity? yun ang kailanagn nila sagutin. and if ever di nila sagutin. its their right. we are all entitled to defend ourself from self incrimination
Got your point Bluep. Me too, i don’t like to invade someone’s privacy nor curtail one’s freedom to earn online which is ethically neutral minus the manipulations that we smell. The truth – it lies somewhere between the rubbles, the silent pattern, the rather-not-be-blogged lines hehe. In our term, it’s called the slippery slope argument hehe as in Hello Garci all the way to Hello Jokjok.Thank you Igsoon – shut up na ako hehe without Manong Facts…
@Dfish – ah yes, gets ko na where you are coming from. haha Buti klinaro mo Igsoon. No, No dont shut up. I enjoy the exchange of ideas and opinions with you. You stimulate my dull brain.
Yahhooooo!! yan si bluepan.. galeng! galeng mo parekoy….. penge discount card.. he he he
Ang observation ko, masyado sila takot kay Reynz. alam nila kung gaano kaimpluwensiya si kapitana, you can see it in barrio siete ang bilis rumagasa, in just a few months. yung yellow ribbon campaign recently which was started by reynz parang bomba na biglang sumabog sa buong blogsphere and lot more of proof kung gaano kalakas ni reynz sa larangan ng blogging..
Hi Jeri,
From day 1, wala pang credentials na nakabalandra, reyna readers knows kung saan ako when it comes to fair and square judging. bottom line, tiga-barrio ako who went through shit and i will not accept shit scams. Had you known me sa Reyna Elena, this was not the only award that I had a fight with because of absolutely ridiculous judging. Kahit na tingnan mo ang mga past winners nang Philippine Barkadahan Awards, where are they?! Wala silang panama sa Barrio Siete. To think that these are the bloggers who lambasted me, ridiculed me and belittled me noon.
I realized that there are bloggers who believe and follow me. And I am careful to stay the path I chose. Ginamet na ako before and bloggers are still using me – sense it – they’re out here – including some of these Jedi Winners – they used me in this shit scam!
I will blog these bloggers next time! Pramis!
Bloop,
silver,
cat pointed that out in her comment dun sa unang entry:
Amen ako dyan Reynz.
parallel yan dun sa sinasabi ko sa taas. Pareho kasi kami ni mam cat na taga academe kaya we know the ins and outs of dealing with the students.
Thats the nature of students kaya nga ang point dyan is you dont take advantage of them precisely because of the nature of the teacher-student relationship. There should always be distance in between.
Nakalimutan mo ako Bloop. We belong to the same side of the fence…malapit sa blackbord at whitebord. Hahaha.
Heheh.
May estudyante ako noon, parati pa epal. gusto lagi sya gagawa.
Students operate that way. ganun din ako nung student pa ako.
BTW in case you are wondering, ginawa ko dun sa students ay pinaupo ko. all three days of duty wala sya ginawa hahaha
alam mo naman ako madali kausap hahaha
teacher silver,
check mo how the voting went.
parang panahon ni marcos.
copy pasted.
mga balotang ready na.
Kaya nga in my class, kahit uber pasaway ang ibang estudyante ko, I try my best to inculcate in them the importance of critical thinking and discipline.
And I never coerce them into things na gawin nila just to please their teacher.
The Most Popular Blogger Eck-Eck Award of 2009.
bluep thanks for making this article.
Inay Reyna can we make a campaign para naman ma pressure na ang dapat ma pressure na ilabas an ang spread sheet na iyan at magpaliwanag na ang dapat magpaliwanag..
“If these is the kind of support and value we are teaching the students, well, what can I say, no wonder the educational system in the Philippines is just as twisted as the awards themselves.”
clap! clap!
Make or Break
@Pehpot – as always, you are welcome.
inilabas na nya dapat after the awards night. eh till now wala pa din.
@Pehpot – haha yung niluto kasi panis, ayan tuloy umalingasaw hahaha
I know nandiyan lang yan sa tabi-tabi. At least man lang may mag-react noh. Palibhasa guilty kaya tahimik.
Mel,
Anong chips yan? Potato chips ba? Pasa naman dyan. I have Coke and Spite here.
*parang nasa sinehan lang ah*
Silver, banana chips lang. I’m on a diet di ba. Hahaha! Hahaha!
Oo nga Mel. Heto nagtayo ng Coke and Sprite kiosk dito sa barrio habang nanunuod tayo ng war film on de-padyak na betamax player.
Okay na sa akin ang banana chips. Peborit ko din yan. Heheheh.
The sounds of silence bewilders me more and more…
LOL
Snow, how are you na ba?
snow, sound of silence is still being recorded… hahaha..siguraduhin lang sana na di pipiyok or byuna! hihi.
@mel
I am not against them naman. I am just raising some questions. mas maganda nga ma patunayan nila na mali ang aking mga findings para nang sa ganun may klarong sagot. I dont mind being corrected as long its the truth. After all, these are only my opinion and I only wanted an honest answer.
Hahahaha!
Okay lang yun Kuya. May note nga akong nilagay dun eh. Isa pa, mas importante to kesa kay Tita Jamby. LOL
Kelan ba kasi to sasagutin ng mga kinauukulan. Hindi naman sila si Maricar Reyes na puwedeng magsabi ng “Silence is my biggest weapon.” Charot!
ahaha pati quotable quotes sa showbiz memorya mo ha hahaha
Mel gusto ko mag sulat ka about miriam santiago hahaha and i love her so hahaha
Shame on these Jedi-pretending cheats! May the curse be with you!
Interesting: about dun sa picture on gratitude:
ANO ANG GINAWA NI ROY NOONG AUGUST 4? PUMUNTA BA SYA SA UNIVERSITY ?!
Job well done nga naman. Like what Jena Isle said… “voluntary” ang ginawa nang estudyante.
Tsk! tsk! tsk!
hala ka ne… (kung sino man siya)
(expression ng muka: nananakot, nyahahahaha)
lessons learned in the third EIB:
1. another meaning for influential- influencing not the bloggers but the students. mwaahahaha.
2. voluntary-when 29 students decided to vote for a group of bloggers because someone told them so.they voluntarily accepted the list; voluntarily read the blogs; voluntarily link the names of the advertisers and voluntarily copy pasted the names of the bloggers they voted for in their blogs.
The teacher voluntarily offered the blogs of the students to her fellow writers in a group blog.
TSEH.
Nyahahahhaha….
hahahahahaha
Volunteerism hahaha
LESSONS THAT I LEARNED IN THE THIRD EIB:
1. promoter of the contest ignores questions/criticisms and charges it to lessons learned. no explanation… no solution…no action.
the belief is sooner or later it is going to die down anyway they are the gods of blogging and there are still millions aspiring newbies in the blogosphere who would join the contest which still uses the crudest form of tallying votes…counting fingers. bwahaha
2. if you are the teacher who is the subject of criticism, praise your students for their virtues…nag those who dare to label them as plagiarists…reprimand those people who do not appreciate their copy-pasting skills… mention God to impress that she is one religious person who is not capable of cheating…best of all, tell them that you are waiting for the truth to come out using your alias and not your real name.
3. if you are a winner of the contest, label the losers to be bitter, thus the criticism.
4. people are willing to sell their credentials or credibility for just 100 dollars?
totoo naman yan di ba bluep. the blogs are supposed to be under their subject clinchemistry, why is the teacher requiring the students to bloghop and make comments to other blogs. is she teaching chemistry or
blogging 101.
I know thats actually what I was thinking too. If the blogs are for educational purposes, then why bloghop on other blogs aside from the classmates themselves. eh most of the blogs that the teachers encourages are either SEO blogs, Poetry and personal blogs.
I was also thinking na dikaya, “baka” lang sa kinalaunan eh kaya nya tinuturuan mag blog yung mga bata eh para din gawin nya writers sa mga Ka pepe na wala kaalam alam ang mga bata na Ka pepe pala yun? O kaya she wants to teach the children how to make money. either way, ano kinalaman ng chem dun? Why teach students to waste time and money on bloghopping where in fact they could teach them in the lab instead. ewan..
Kung ano ano naiisip ko na possibilities, simply because the teacher’s final statement was unconvincing. It only tackled about truth which is not even truth itself. The statement was incomplete. Instead on answering the issues, the teacher’s only defense were
1. Truth shall Prevail
2. the kids are legitimate bloggers and should not be questioned.
3. Winners are sure fire emerging influential ekek
4. and thats she’s proud to be a Jedi Blogger… which has nothing to do really with the issue except for a fact they six or five (not sure and i dont care how many are them) of them won LOL
This i think gives more loopholes than answers.
The more they keep quiet the more they will be scrutinized.
Of course the issue will die down, but their credibility will be tainted. Actually this post serves them more good than harm. They can very well defend themselves by answering the issue.
And nakalimutan ko, Janette should also be hold responsible on this accusations thrown at the awards.
oh yes, bakit she included those votes from the students.
Tawang -tawa ako sa “be careful what you wish for”. haha
Kaya nga be careful what you wish for hahaha
chemistry 101 or blogging 101?!
hahahaha
o baka naman they were testing HELLO GARCI THEORY? di kaya? hehehe
malamang eh ayon sa ating mga BIA eh pati pala mga non bloggers who happens to have a built in blog in their social networking accounts ay pinaboto.
we all know na having a blog application in your social networking account doesn’t make you a blogger… alam natin lahat yan…
hahahhahah…..
magdildil ba ng caviar? hahahahhaha…..
Isa pa pala mam cat,
maybe the $100 is the worm in the bait? di kaya? kaya bumoto mga bata kasi explain ni teacher na yun ang prize for voting and linking sponsors? hmmmm
alam mo blue, pag estudyante ka $100 is certainly a big magnet. alam na naten yan hahaha
yun nga eh. Kung bloggers nga eh nahuhumaling dyan estudyante pa?
Of course ayon sa ating Intelligence Unit ang kumakalat daw na usap usapan at depensa ng kabila ay wala daw sila rules na nilabag pero deep inside they all know that what they did is indecent and unethical… Malamang hindi mali ayon sa rules, but conscience dictates that it is morally and ethically wrong.
e ipalo mo kaya ang tsinelas? haha
bago lang ako dito but I can see that the baryotics have a high respect for you
ano ba ung TSEH?
TSEH is a patented expression of Ms Cat.
these students are not bloggers.. they were forced/required to blog. they were even given lessons on how to blog. blogging is a passion. you cannot force a person to blog!!!! she’s teaching them to blog. parang naging blogging class ang kanyang clinical chemistry class! ridiculous!
Kasi nga ang blogging is a passion. Hindi yan pwede iforce. I also believe that blogging is not a science but an art. kasi ito ang subject na di pwede ituro, bakit> kasi yung interesado lang at may passion talaga ang matututo at tatagal
when you force a person to blog, worse dictate to them what to blog, and dictate to them about gratitude, eh para mo na rin sinabi na sekretarya mo sila. haha
madami naman ako nakatrabaho na weird na profs, pero by far this is the weirdest LOL
hahaha. agree ako sa weird part.
kung naging estudyante niya ako, i would question her. bakit naging blogging 101 ang klase!
i don’t blame the students though. i pity them.
Chem is a prerequisite on all allied medical courses. usually taken during the first two years before the proper. Therefore, the teacher is teaching a major subject on a minor year. tsk tsk
blue,
OOOPs.
seriously, blogging is a passion that when you miss several days of blogging, you feel symptoms of withdrawal from an addicted behavior.
maloloka ka.
but even then, many veteran bloggers suffer from mental block but not that long when the first entry is followed after weeks of hibernation only to cast a vote. mwehehe
It seems the day is incomplete without bl;ogging ano po? blogging is for all… but not for all…
“after weeks of hibernation only to cast a vote” bwahahaha hanep ang mga hirit mo hahaha
passion. that’s one big thing missing sa blogs nung mga Chemblogger.
anong passion ang meron dun kung ang laman nung blog is an assignment dictated by the teacher?!
good point guys!
summa cum laude kayo! hahaha!
technically kasi reynz oo pwede sila i-consider na blogger, but in the strictest sense of the term? i doubt it. where is the p[assion? in copy pasting? plagiarism? vote blocking? hahaha
[...] Influencing the students to vote -an action which is an individual’s freedom of expression for a group of web friends is an usurpation of power. [...]
“minsan naman magbigay ka ng trophy.” yun ang pamatay. wahahahahh! very well written bluep. well said.
now if only we can hear from the people involved….
silence is deafening, isn’t it?
Yun nga. sana nga lang but I think they have chosen to be quiet thinking that this will all die down a natural death. tama si reesie, the silence is very deafening. They have all the right to be silent, i respect that.
Kung ka edad ko lang mga yung mga bata na yun, I WILL never spend my time blogging no assuming sa number nila, ang daming pwedeng gawin na masaya aside from blogging kaya, not unless there is a greater reward or the greater punishment involve para mag blog…ahhmm?
my two cents po.
mismo malditz!
@Malditz there is a greater reward…$100 daw kaya pala bumoto.
SWAK DIVA?
@all
There is no harm in extending the classroom in the blogs, but by allowing them to vote? and being taught to bloghop from other blogs? wow the subject is chemistry and yet she’s teaching Blogging 101
Hollow Victory indeed.
Talaga? You spent a lot of effort. Ganito blog ninyo:
1.) Hello world
2.) Harbat entries sa wikipedia or anywhere, post videos
3.) Vote for Jedi Bloggers
Sino niloloko ninyo?
ANG TRUTH DYAN EH NAG-BLOCK VOTING KAYO….
to me, the intent. the intent from the beginning was dayain ang awards. yan ang reason behind all these spam blogs. pinagawa ni Jena Isle.
Uy natumbok mo. The end doesnt justify the means. The intent from the very start was to have a block vote kasi kung talagang itong teacher na ito eh gusto may gaganyan sa blogosphere eh di sana noon pa nya sinimulan. It seems according to your investigation that these blogs were just created the same month as the stupid awards started…
yong reason ni Jena Isle and Roy na we should watch that these blogs will grow and will have entries – eh yan na nga – me mga bagong assignments ang mga “bloggers” para bang mga tiga Guantanamo Bay?
how can they even grow if what they blog are copy pasted materials? eh sira ulo pala naman itong dalawa na ito eh. I cant wait for them to respond kasi talang didikdikin ko sila ng tanong.
Barrio Writers as far as I know doesnt only have balls but also have guts, resources and connections.. talagang pupuntahan yan ng mga kabarrio pag nagalit sila hahaha
dencios,
Baka made in CHina ang mga robots na yan. LOL.
@Silver
Madali daw masira ang robots made in China. Mahinang klase. *LOL*
Anjelica, panganiban??????
Anong karapatan mo para pangaralan ang matatanda?????…just concentrate in your studies to fulfill your goal and to become professional someday like us, and wait until you become. kelan pa nagkaroon ng subject na blogging sa school???? dahil yan ang sabi ng mentor mo?
i presume you will become MAGNA if you will give main concern in blogging rather than concentrating you studies…
Wait!!! di pa ako tapos… i mean Magna-nine years ka sa college di ka makakatapos, dahil mas naadict ka sa blogging kesa sa pag aaral mo iha.
Nini, hindi mo alam ang pinagsasasabi mo. Wag ka pagamit sa teacher mo. Even if it seems you know what you are doing, you are not and definitely your teacher is either cluless or negligent of your welfare.
Imagine she is using you as a shield. If she really cares as a teacher, would she allow you students to answer the issue like this and be involved?
Till now your teacher is as mute as a log, yet she lets you answer and defend the issue all by your self… thinking that if students will speak for themselves they will be vindicated. Apparently not! If that is a good teacher, well let the lightning strike me now!
The issue here is not about the people behind your blogs because we have already established that there are real persons here. The issue here now is the ethical manner by which you were dragged here and eventually you casted your block votes. thats the issue here. Apparently your teacher is dumb for not explaining to you the real score.
If this will pursue, i think i will support the plan of some Barrio Writers to take this matter into the doorstep of the University.. your teacher is playing dumb!
hintayin muna natin yong isa pang Federasyon nang mga Barrio Investigators hahahaha! then we can deliberate…
and yes… we will… ~wink~ ~wink~
HAHAHA
@Reynz – hahaha oy wag naman hahaha I was just bluffing. Let’s just leave the private woman’s life alone haha. mamaya matangal pa sa trabaho yun kawawa naman hahaha
@Anjelica Naguiat
We have both rights to fight for.And not because most of the people here are older than you, age should be taken as an excuse for pardon. Parang sinabi mo nalang na kung ang presidente ay nagnakaw at 15 years old lang siya, then is it right to forgive her because she’s young? Dont be blinded, not because a person is called a mentor, he or she is uber good. At wag na wag ka ngang magcomment about older older na yan, tapos na ang panahon kung saan ang kantang “Greatest love of all” ni Whitney ay national anthem ng mga kabataan. Poker face na ang bago. che!
Lahat naman tayu disappointed, you can claim TRUTH but you can never take better judgement from the people. Sorry, but were not like your mentor, we dont TOLERATE such actions. Walang amnesty! Walang awa awa!
hahahha
wow maldito, nag e-english?? naloka ako sa greatest love of all.
Itong mga batang ito ay brainwashed LOL
Of course they will defend their teacher… its so typical. But the question is ganun ba sila kasigurado na tama at wise ang pinagagawa sa kanila… we cant blame these kids. to them we are the villains and their teacher and their “Jedi Bloggers EK-EK” are the heroes.. and its so sad that these self proclaimed Jedi doesn’t even had the gall and morality to uphold what we all know is right from the very start.
Urrgggghhh Such Hypocrites!
we cannot deny the fact na INFLUENTIAL ANG TITSER JENA ISLE. she how she just taught her students in Cheating 101.
and these are the kids na magiging leaders naten.
good job JEAN ISLE?!
2009 EMERGING INFLUENTIAL CHEATERS AWARDS
2009 EMERGING INFLUENTIAL CHEATERS AWARDS!!!!
***UPDATE – AUGUST 12, 2009***
BINGO! HAHAHAHA! HAHAHA!
Sabi nga ni Jena Isle?
THE TRUTH WILL PREVAIL!
sabi ko naman “BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR” Lalo na at si manay Glow ay nangangati na ang kamay sa telepono hahahaha
and I am stil on the PATH OF DOING THE RIGHT THING blue hahaha! pag-usapan na lang naten sa sidebar. to me, i will respond to Roy’s challenge at well as sa challenge nang Jena Isle na yan.
hahahaha it seems nothing will really stop you from living up to the challenge hahaha
war na ba talaga ito? hahaha
ako naman im just being objective. Baka naman they still have valid reasons that we dont know about. Antayin na lang muna natin sila magsalita at baka naman may inihahanda silang statements from the Jedi Council LOL
Bull’s Eye! hahaha.
At dun sa student comment na yun, dont make age as one of your reasons eklat.
Hay naku. Aprovel nga po!
@Silvs, its obvious that these kids doesnt know the real score. we can’t blame them because they are not really bloggers. After all, they should not have been dragged into this sham in the first place. What really irks me is that the teacher keeps being quite about the issue while her students defend themselves.
Err Bloop,
kanino galing yang update mo? Yung August 12 update mo?
Medyo nasa twilight zone pa ako nag-twitwirl…hehhe…
Classified yan LOL
Oo nga bloop. LOL.
yeah, i was confused by that update too.
alin mahal na reyna?
yong August 12 update – kala ko written by somebody other than you. pero ok na ako.
I feel pity for these students, their mentor used them for her own benefit.
watch for new developments soon!
sabi ko, this is not the end, otherwise, sayang ang ginawa nameng investigation. i want something done.
The first time, I expressed my thoughts about the title of the award, I was questioning the word influential.
the promoter justified the use of the influential with a lot of explanation that defies the simple definition from Webster, someone who possesses influence. Influence is defined as the power or capacity of causing an effect in indirect or intangible ways or simply said… sway.
How can a blogger who writes about making money online convince readers to join him in this profitable activity when he confesses that he has financial problems himself?
Don’t they know the word testimonial form of advertisement in marketing where you can say…kuminis ang balat ko dahil dito sa litsing sabon na ito…or the walking advertisement referring to a person who personifies whatever the product quality is all about…elegance, success and or beauty.
How can bloggers be influential when they register no more than five visits a day and that already include the writer’s visits. WHO ARE THEY GOING TO INFLUENCE. TSEH.
This year, the writing project was affixed in the title. What writing project was it? Was it writing down the names of the promoters of the contest or just writing down the names of the blogs? I did not see any essay or I just missed it?
Why do these promoters not respond when questions are raised by some people in the blogosphere? Is it because they feel they are the gods in the philippine buladasphere and they are not answerable to anyone even when the rules of the contest are as murky as the muddy water?
Is this all about money? Is this all about link baiting.
i was part of barrio siete when it joined the contest but I was vocal
to the members that I am not participating in the nomination because I do not believe in the contest.
To the winners, do they feel proud even if their badges they get from the contest lack integrity?
But this is already an intro to corruption…weilding power to someone under your authority or using devious means to win.
Being quiet and not responsive to the question is an insult and not a manifestation of avoidance of friction.
I wonder if there is a need to suggest that bloggers who will conduct promos should also get permit from the DTI for the participants’ protection?
In all of what you said madam Cat: RAMEN err AMEN!
May I harbat some of your comments here kapag tinoyo na akong gumawa ng nuclear kwetes? I hope you wont mind.
silver,
The fact that ALL CHEM BLOGGERS were in a rush and voted at the last minute does not look good by all counts. Somebody encouraged them, for lack of bitter word, to vote – and that alone makes the more of it being popularity and not INFLUENTIAL at all.
The INFLUENTIAL of course was the teacher.
Reynz,
Under the influence ni Titser. Hehehhe.
Ms. Cat,
Hehehe.
Hello Reynz and all barrio siete readers – I was surprised with what I’ve been reading here! Ang galing ng investigation niyo! Kudos! I agree with you.
Anyway, I just hope that Ma’m Janette should have implemented stricter rules for these. I attended the said event and some bloggers were also surprised that I was not included in the Top 10.
Thank you for all who believed and voted for millionaireacts by the way. There is an inspiring story behind my blog and I would love to share it out just in case I won. I couldn’t publish it because I was once threatened on filing a court case. I’ll be careful this time. It’s just an evidence of how will power works which I am also blogging about.
Anyhow, I would suggest to have a stricter rules just in case this project would still push through next year:
1. There should be a LIST of nominated blogs whom we can take a vote for. The list of nominations should have certain criteria aside from the date when the blog started. The following criteria should also be included (a) content (b) design (c) category (d) feed readers (e) technorati (f) alexa rank.
2. For the participants, I think they should be blogging for at least 3 months with at least 10 posts per month. In this way, we can eliminate spam blogs.
During the last few weeks of the contest, I’ve seen a lot of blogs that were newly created. I was just surprised about these Clin. Chem bloggers.
Pwede na kayo sa PCIJ Reynz! Hehe…
Hi Tyrone,
Yes, those blogs just appeared to vote for Jedi Bloggers. That’s all. Now, they’re saying that they will grow as a blog, in other words, more posts will come. But of course! The teacher was giving assignments. To post in the “blog”.
Now, the mere fact that you have STUDENTS, which I’m sure they don’t want to fail and a TEACHER, who obviously weild power over the students, and the fact that the teacher gives out assingment and that sabay sabat na nagboto, why I convinced that there was encouragement, possibly more than encouragement to these students to vote for the Jedi Bloggers besides there is the $100 lure? Korak?
So where is the ethical behaviour of the teacher?!
What makes it worse was that Janet counted the votes.
So what you have is Garbage in – Garbage out!
I think the only solution to this problem is to let us have a peek on the tally of votes. But I’m not sure if there is still any use of it since the awarding is already finished.
No, no, no..Actually, sa tagal na ng pag blog ng mga Pinoy, we shouldn’t settle for rules. That’s old school. For contest such as this, they should set standards.
3 months is not enough to create buzz. Blogs should be manually reviewed by a group. Probably people who understands how to generate buzz without hijacking keywords.
Reynz, considering the obvious scorn you feel for the contest, I’m surprised you and your friends would waste so much energy in protesting the results. It seems immature, to me. Sour grapes, perhaps? Of course you’ll say no, but the energy and time you’ve put into building this into a scandalous blog drama indicate otherwise.
Sure, of course it was a popularity contest. In my opinion, the winners won because they’re genuine human beings who are good at reaching out and connecting with the blogging community. They aren’t just a bunch of “crowd pleasers,” but they don’t go out of their way to alienate others. And in a sense, the ability to reach out and get other bloggers to participate and nominate a blog indicates a certain degree of influence. (They certainly deserved to beat me in this contest – I have family and close friends who don’t read my blog and wouldn’t bother voting for it in ANY contest.) Of course it was more about networking, gaining exposure for new blogs, making new friends, and getting some link love for the sponsers than anything else. Did anyone break any of Janette’s rules? I’m not seeing it, and apparently she didn’t, either, when she determined the winners.
The reaction here, from you and many of your loyal readers, reminds me of the reaction I see among artists and writers when they lose or are disqualified from a contest that essentially turns out to be a “people’s choice award” instead of a prestigious, juried competition. On the one hand, they’re righteously indignant about not being in the running, but on the other hand, they swear the whole competition is beneath their dignity and they wouldn’t enter it if you PAID them to.
When you first dropped by my blog, Reynz, I thought you seemed like a good person. Now, I think you’re grandstanding, hurting people you don’t even know, just to get more hits for your blog. Controversy and flames never fail to bring in the rubberneckers, eh? It’s not as if this were the Nobel Prize or a Pulitzer. Frankly, I cannot imagine any uni student being unduly influenced to play along with this – aren’t the college years the time in life when you are supposed to be learning to think for yourself, to question everything, and to stand up for what you believe in? I’ve argued with professors in front of seventy or more students, and still earned an A from them. I haven’t known Jen that long, but the concern she feels for her students is absolutely undeniable. There is educational value in blogging: the Internet is a tool for research, for sharing information, and for communicating with peers and experts. It is a chance to practice language and writing skills. Contests provide an exercise in reading and following the directions for entering, without being disqualified (and I know a number of people who lack that skill – it has value). Interacting online is an experience in dealing with difficult people (perhaps you fancy yourself a teacher, Reynz?) I think they’re lucky to have Jen as their mentor, and I’m 100% certain every one of them knows they could have voted for any blog on the planet without jeopardizing their grades. To suggest that these young adults (hardly children) were intimidated by their professor to participate or vote a particular way is ludicrous.
It’s not as if there was a fortune at stake, either. A plaque? A raffle for $100 (not an award, but a raffle). It doesn’t matter to me – I never expected to win (and would have felt a bit sorry if I did, because I’m not new to blogging even if I’ve only recently returned to “active duty”). I stand by my votes and the reasoning behind them. I’m glad to have made new friends, these people who call themselves the Jedi Bloggers, and their silence on this matter can only be interpreted as dignity. Should they just add fuel to your auto-da-fé? You’ve gleefully pronounced them guilty of all manner of nefarious things and you aren’t likely to back down no matter what they say, so what would be the point, beyond boosting your own Alexa rating?
Looks to me like you’re intent on making mountains out of molehills, and I respectfully suggest that there are actual mountains to be moved – real political and social causes to which your writing efforts could be put to worthier use.
Hello Holly, is it?
I am the writer of this post therefore you should address me.
I am on my day job right now I cannot answer your convoluted and very lengthy comment but I will assure you that I’ll answer them point by point once i get home. Though i dont see your point as anything different, yet by virtue of democracy i will answer them even the tiniest period and comma.
anyhow, i would like first to advice you on two points before i go on to my rebuttal later today:
1. You are making a sweeping generalization by sayiong “You and your friends”
2. Its not about elitism as you have just pointed out.
OBVIOUSLY MADAME YOU DID NOT READ MY POST IN THE PROPER CONTEXT. THIS IS THE PROBLEM WHEN YOU JUST RANT AND RANT WITHOUT TAKING ANY ACCOUNT OF THE CONTEXT OF WHAT I WROTE. YOUR ARGUMENTS ARE OFF TANGENT SINCE I CLARIFIED EVERYTHING ON MY POST POINT BY POINT EVEN ON THE MATTER OF THE ISSUE YOU ARE RAISING THAT IS “YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS” AND EVERYTHING YOU HOLD DEAR ABOUT THE JEDI BLOGGERS.
THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENT AND PLEASE DO WAIT FOR MY REPLY…..
ARE YOU EVEN A FILIPINO? Sorry I havent heard of “YOU” until now.
PS. forgive the all caps, its a reflex when im confronted with stupidity
You are saying that you are not attacking anyone here but what’s this?
And this:
And again, another one:
Isnt that strange? You are putting statements contradictory to what you have said. Can you please stay objective here? Are you acquainted with the word influential? When we say influential, you are influencing other bloggers out there – you are giving them the inspiration to write things straight from their heads or you are giving an advise or opinion on things that matters most. Thus, when we say the word influential, you are giving value to your readers – which also results to strong following or readership.
Influence is not in the context of INFLUENCING OTHER PEOPLE TO DO BLOCK-VOTES FOR A BUNCH OF PEOPLE WHICH RESULTED THEM TO WIN THE AWARDS. This is what we call in Filipino as “naghahakot ng boto.”
And I have to disagree with your statement here:
Barrio Siete doesnt have expose controversial things like this just to boost our Alexa ratings. To me, that’s freaking ridiculous. We expose things like these in light of truth so that these freaking things will never happen again. Baka ikaw ang naghahanap ng Alexa ratings dyan at kung ano ano na ang ginagawa mo just to boost your Alexa rating. Di kaya?
Silver, there is a difference between criticizing someone’s behavior and attacking them with profanity, insults, and petty name calling. I think you know the difference and are being disingenuous to suggest that anything I wrote was a personal attack.
@Holly – this is the reason why you cannot butt in with our conversation because we have a different take on everything as a Filipino. You are the one who is grandstanding. This blog creates traffic for the readers, for all we know, you just want a piece of the cake.
dont worry baby, as long as you are getting a lot of attention here, expect that your alexa would spike. Thats what you call influential!
Response:
http://barriosiete.com/holly-jahangiri-is-jedi-bloggers-spinmaster-of-the-2009-emerging-influential-blog-awards-by-janette-toral/
bluepanjeet, I do apologize if you felt overlooked. I just went from one post to the next, and felt I needed to address Reynz since he started all this fuss.
No, I’m not a Filipino. How is that relevant, exactly? I’m a blogger, and I was a nominee in Janette Toral’s contest. I hadn’t heard of YOU until now, either, bluepanjeet – another reason I didn’t address my comments to you. I’m genuinely sorry if you felt slighted by that, but the extremely rude and combative tone of your reply to me merely proves that you are only intent on tearing people down, and that’s just not a game I’m going to play here.
I, too, have a reflex when confronted with stupidity – and that is not to give it more attention than it is due.
see, you didnt understand nor put into context my post. Read again and maybe you’ll see that what you are bitchin about is purely personal bias.
everything is relevant baby! since you should be HERE in the PHILIPPINES and BE A FILIPINO to undersatnd our temperaments, culture and ways! — and yes even the issue… UMUWI KA MUNA DITO at saka ka magpuputak! (ay sori, kana ka pala hahahaha)
extremely rude? incredible. You are the one who judged us without first reading the conetxt of the post, going further of accusing us and generally sweeping us like dirts, and now we are rude?
and now you are accusing me of tearing down people? have you even read my post?
if this is the kind of argument you want to play, please, i have no time. focus on the issue and dont label us with your stupid perception because we are not interested. FILIPINOS are hospitable people. if you want to be answered and treated like a human, then come here as a human. read your first comment… there is rudeness all over it… sheez…
yeah right, that’s why you wrote a very lengthy comment that’s not even worth arguing, because as you said … “we are stupid”…
anak ka ng putok!! – ask the jedi bloggers AND LET THEM TRANSLATE IT FOR YOU lol
@ Holly, Yes you are not Filipino because you are FILIPINA. right?
@jeri, right – if I were, I would be!
Oh really? Our women are not bitches as far as I know. They are feisty but not bitches…
Ladies, are you just going to stand there and take that?
Word Origin & History
feisty
1896, Amer.Eng. from feist “small dog,” from fice, fist Amer.Eng. 1805 “small dog,” short for fysting curre “stinking cur,” attested from 1529, from M.E. fysten, fisten “break wind” (1440), related to O.E. fisting “stink.” The 1811 slang dictionary defines fice as “a small windy escape backwards, more obvious to the nose than ears; frequently by old ladies charged on their lap-dogs.” Cf. also Dan. fise “to blow, to fart,” and obs. Eng. askefise, lit. “fire-blower, ash-blower,” from an unrecorded O.N. source, used in M.E. for a kind of bellows, but orig. “a term of reproach among northern nations for an unwarlike fellow who stayed at home in the chimney corner” [O.E.D.]
feisty. Dictionary.com. Online Etymology Dictionary. Douglas Harper, Historian. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/feisty (accessed: August 13, 2009).
Oops It seems our Holy Bitch is just twisting the meaning of the word FEISTY and is only selecting the words that would favor her immature attacks. From the same link she desperately provided:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/feisty
feist⋅y [fahy-stee]
Use feisty in a Sentence
–adjective, feist⋅i⋅er, feist⋅i⋅est.
1. full of animation, energy, or courage; spirited; spunky; plucky: The champion is faced with a feisty challenger.
2. ill-tempered; pugnacious.
3. troublesome; difficult: feisty legal problems.
SO AGAIN I REPEAT FROM THE THREAD:
nice try HOLLY BITCH! Getting desperate and twisting even the meaning of the word….. and yes that is the work of a PROUD JEDI WHORE
HEY HOLLY BITCH, LET US NEXT DEFINE YOUR KEYWORDS SHALL WE?

HAHAHAHA NICE ONE BLUE! Good that you catched that one! and you would think that her comments say that she’s not really attacking us personally! Nice try HOLLYSHIT! hahaha
You see reynz, this bitch is capable of twisting anything… these JEDI BLOGGERS are all scoundrels.
THEY GIVE THE FICTIONAL JEDI A BAD NAME
I am 100 % Filipina and I am feisty but certainly not a b*tch!:D
atta girl reesie!
Holly Bitch, what is your next attack? LOl
ha ha ha! it looks like you are “doble kara”. lol! you know what i mean?
Well, now, that’s interesting. I don’t recall calling anyone stupid – just your reply, because it was unnecessarily rude and combative. You’re the one who brought “stupidity” into the conversation. I didn’t attack anyone here. I simply gave Reynz my opinion on the matter. YOU decided to turn it into a personal attack. I apologized for not addressing you first – on your post – but the more you reply to me, the more merit I see in not replying to you at all.
And the Jedi Bloggers are too horrified to even attempt to translate that for me, but I’m pretty sure I got the gist of it. You’re right – MOST Filipinos are polite and hospitable people.
Oh – by the way, doesn’t Reynz live here in the States? I could’ve sworn I read that, and that we’re practically neighbors.
So, Reynz, how ’bout it? Shall we sit down on Bourbon street and chat about this in a civilized manner over mudbugs and Hurricanes? Tell you what, next time a hurricane’s roaring up the Gulf, we’ll toss a coin and head to whichever of our cities ISN’T getting clobbered.
Yes you didnt call me stupid yet you label us with your perception, isnt that rude enough? judging us without even reading my post and worst NOT putting it into proper context? Dont take everything literally. Its only for STUPID people. Read between the lines.
and yet you replied again and again and again… dont worry, its mutual
it depends if the guest is a Bitch or not!
Yes he is. BUT HE IS A TRUE BLOOD FILIPINO AND HE COMES HERE FROM TIME TO TIME. Why don’t you come here? get your backpack and visit our country, talk that way with our locals, the way you talk in your first comment, and maybe you’ll experience the first hand hospitality of Filipinos. I will be glad to be your tour guide in our abu sayyaf infested areas.
may the Force of all the hurricanes be with you!
Who in the world are you Hollyshit?!
http://barriosiete.com/holly-jahangiri-is-jedi-bloggers-spinmaster-of-the-2009-emerging-influential-blog-awards-by-janette-toral/
If I know, I just caught you and Jan! You are such a LIAR and a CONNIVING BITCH!!! hahaha!
moral lesson of the story:
Read first before comment.

jeezzz.
Dencios, I could have been courteous to her if she just read my post and focused on the facts I wrote above. eh wala eh. She’s just ranting that we are bitter, and that we all agreed to bully other bloggers which is not even the case. She let her personal bias cloud her objectivity going even further as to twist what I have wriiten.
I cant argue with stupidity you know taht. and now she’s crying foul that i used the word ‘STUPID” while all over her comment rudeness and prejudice abound.
“…could have been courteous to her if she just read my post and focused on the facts I wrote above. eh wala eh. She’s just ranting that we are bitter”
