I will be reposting three (3) articles. I think, we need to review and understand these stories dahil we won’t have any appreciation to most of the stories going around. Besides, sabi nga ni Tita Ellen in her blog, this is just a preview nang Noynoy Administration and expect no boring moments in the Noynoy Aquino presidency.

Let’s start with this one.

How ‘Hyatt 10’ was formed

MANILA, Philippines—On July 8, 2005, seven members of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Cabinet and three bureau chiefs announced their resignation and called on her to step aside and relinquish her post to Vice President Noli de Castro.

The announcement, amid widespread demands that Ms Arroyo resign over charges of electoral fraud, was made during a press conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Pasay City, and the moniker “Hyatt 10” stuck.

The erstwhile Arroyo stalwarts said the President had been making decisions “guided mainly by her determination to survive.”

“The longer the President stays in office under a cloud of doubt and mistrust, and with her style of decision-making, the greater the damage on the economy and the more vulnerable the fragile political situation becomes to extremists seeking to undermine our democratic life,” they added.

The ex-officials, however, refused to make judgments on accusations that Ms Arroyo had cheated in the 2004 presidential elections and that her family had benefited from illegal gambling operations. They said there was a proper forum to resolve these allegations.

The Hyatt 10 were composed of:

  1. Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima,
  2. Social Welfare Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman,
  3. Education Secretary Florencio Abad,
  4. Budget Secretary Emilia Boncodin,
  5. Trade Secretary Juan Santos,
  6. Agrarian Reform Secretary Rene Villa,
  7. Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Quintos-Deles,
  8. National Anti-Poverty Commission Chair Imelda Nicolas,
  9. Internal Revenue Commissioner Guillermo Parayno and
  10. Customs Commissioner Alberto Lina.

The Hyatt 10 later formed a group advocating government reforms called INCITEGov or the International Center for Innovation, Transformation and Excellence in Governance. Cyril L. Bonabente, Inquirer Research
