In Laguna, Voters are frustrated

10 May 2010 One Comment

LAGUNA, PHILIPPINES – In Calamba Laguna, PCOS Machines are A-okay but like what happened in some areas, voting was very slow because most of the precincts allowed the senior citizens to cast their votes first. Lines were disorganized everywhere. Complaints are mounting since the clustered precincts are only using 1 PCOS machine in Calamba Central School. Many voters were on queue for hours and most of them already went home due to utter frustration and boredom. Verified reports reveal that the BEIs themselves attempted to devise ways to ease the frustration of the voters. Due to heat and long lines, voters were frustrated. BEIs tried to solve the problem. See the updates below.

Most of the insiders in Calamba are saying that the battle will probably be between Noynoy and Erap since Erap has a strong hold in the north-eastern part of Laguna and Mar Roxas versus Binay will battle for the Vice Presidency.

In the Local scene here (Calamba City), Mayoralty candidates Joaquin Chipeco and Pursing Oruga will clash after the voting is done. Vice Mayoralty however will be significant between Dyan Del Valle Esperidion and Binoy Lajara. As of now, Calamba, Laguna is generally peaceful.

The peaceful atmosphere in Laguna was eclipsed by the sad reality of some Politicians using children to distribute flyers and sample ballots. There is no existing Comelec Policy about using children in the elections but hiring children to do an adult job is prohibited in Philippine Law.

Update: 5:45 PM – from Katrina Halalan:

Voting is still going on in Laguna. During the influx of people (at midday), BEI’s in Central 1 Elem. School in Calamba, Laguna tried to devise ways to solve the long lines and ease the frustration of some voters. They tried to do a number system wherein numbers listed on small cards are given to voters and in sequence, numbers are called. The voters with corresponding numbers are allowed to go into the precinct to cast their votes.

On the other news, some children within the school premises are having a heyday in scavenging plastic bottles and papers. They kept them in sacks so that they can deliver it to local junkshops just to earn pennies.

Voting is extended until 7pm. From then, the canvassing of ballots at precinct level will proceed through electronic transmission.
