Meet the Writers: Making Sense of Mr. Nonsense

21 October 2009 26 Comments

MrNonsense is Jesse Paez. He was born and raised by two solid parents in Tondo, Manila. He came to Iowa when he was 17 and is now raising a family in Washington, where a group of Filipinos adopted them as their own.

Mr. Nonsense can often be seen in the Tacoma-Seattle area carrying a camcorder, accompanied by his two sons and his personal chauffeur, his wife. He uses his Tondo upbringing to nurture his children and to survive in a mental institution—>where he currently works.

He enjoys basketball, cooking, singing, cartooning, producing short movies, and making his own furniture out of junked wood… because he’s so cheap. He is a self-proclaimed “Man of the House,”…when his wife is not home.

ON SOCIAL CLIMBING:

Mr. Nonsense believes that “social climbing” is not defined by the amount of money s/he makes, not by the numbers of diplomas on the wall, nor by the number of subordinates under his/her control.  It is not about reaching a certain hierarchy.  Social climbing is an act of humility measured by the number of the people one has help or touched either directly or by example.

june-2006-015THE AMERICAN DREAM:

Once a friend asked him, as part of a research, what was his “American Dream.”

He said, “Snow.  Lots of snow.”

People dream of a fancy cars, a big picket-fence houses, fabolous careers, etc.  But, growing up in the Philippines, snow is basically what he dreamed about when he thought of America.  He remembers putting his head in the freezer and scraping the frost off while pretending he was in a winter wonderland.

The only things he wished of having or becoming growing up were a nice family and being a good family man.  And right now, he is living it.  Washington, with it’s great scenery and adventure, progressive and global mentality, and midwestern hospitality, is the best place to raise a family. But, Mr. Nonsense finds joy with his very comical family just about anywhere they go.
