Miss Universe 2009 Costume Competition: The Best, The Worst and The Unusual

20 August 2009 52 Comments

On Monday Aug. 24, 2009 (Philippine time), you won’t see a single gay man outside the four corners of our homes. Mas importante pa ito sa Pasko, New Year, or kahit sa sarili naming birthday. Oo, I’m talking about the Miss Universe pageant live from the tropical city of Nassau, in the Bahamas.

Sa totoo lang, I never fail to watch it every year simula pa noong natuto akong lumakad.

This week ay ginanap na ang preliminary competition and as usual pinaka-exciting ang National Costume competition. Here are my choices for “The Best, The Boring and The What Were They Thinking”, with a little side comments na rin. In short, okrayan na ‘to. Hahaha! Feel free to disagree though.

All photos are from globalbeauties.com, Thank you.

Simulan natin sa The BEST:

MUthailand

Thailand: Innovative ang top, yet very Thai pa rin.

MUvenezuela

Venezuela: One word, Sushal!

MUperu

Peru: Very cultural indeed, plus may WOW factor.

MUpanama

Panama: Winner! Showstopper.

MUbolivia

Bolivia: Mabigat yan, kaya let’s give her A for effort.

The BORING:

MUcolombia

Colombia: I expected more. Hindi umubra ang bangs.

MUspain

Spain: More ruffles! More ruffles!

MUcroatia

MUfrance

France: Coming from the fashion capital of the world, this is embarrassing noh!

The WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING

MUgreat-britain

Great Britain: Ha?

MUuruguay

Uruguay: Eto pang isa.

MUjapan

Japan: KALOKAH! Parang pornstar!

My FAVOURITES

MUukraine

MUchina

China: Walang pakialamanan. Eh like ko ang jacket niya, paki niyo. LOL

MUindia

India: Classic design. Not overdressed like the ones we see in Bollywood movies.

MUnicaragua

Nicaragua: I like the details on the skirt, especially the masks. Reminds me of our very own Masskara Festival.

MUpuerto-rico

Puerto Rico: This should be the costume our very own Bianca Manalo should’ve worn.

Ano ba kasi ang sinuot ni Bianca? Eto.

MUphilippines

Philippines: Sa totoo lang, I don’t like it. Hahaha! Good luck na lang sa kanya.

Despite that chakaness of the costume, I’m still optimistic that Bianca will make it to the finals. Mark my words.

is is the ‘gurl’ behind “The Misadventures of Mel Beckham”. ‘She’ graduated with a double major in Management and Entrepreneurship. ‘She’ grew up in the city but now lives in the bukid near barrio siete juggling work as a farm manager, office secretary, messenger, construction worker, housemaid, make-up artist and babysitter. Despite ‘her’ busy schedule, ‘she’ finds the time to blog in between work, and errands using ‘her’ primitive mobile phone. ‘She’ plans to take ‘her’ MBA soon but ‘her’ multiple jobs prevent ‘her’ from doing so unless going to school will get ‘her’ paid to pay for ‘her’ utangs. Before ‘she’ dies, ‘she’ hopes of owning a pair of Louboutins, and landing on the cover of Vogue, kahit sa Vogue India lang. Whichever comes first.

Violent reactions are welcome. Kiver kahit anong sabihin mo. But try to stay on topic and avoid personal attacks. Only privileged Barrio people & readers are allowed to swear.
