Not all hates Kris

6 August 2009 179 Comments

I like Kris Aquino. For the record, not everyone here in Barrio Siete likes her as much as I do. But alam niyo naman dito sa barrio namin, we practice fairness kaya this post has been permitted to be published. You know who you are guys. Hahaha!

To begin with, I’m proud to say I’m a big fan of Kris Aquino. I worship her. I adore her more than anyone else in Philippine showbusiness. I listen to everything she says. If she likes something, I like it too. If she despises something, I will surely hate it too.

What is there to not like Ate Kris?

She’s pretty, she’s smart, she’s fashionable, she’s true to herself.

Who is Kris Aquino? Promise.

Lahat ng mga Filipino kilala si Kristina Bernadette as the youngest daughter of Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino and former president, our beloved angel Corazon “Cory” Aquino.

Some say, (some daw oh!) pati na yung mga detractors niya (marami kayo, I’m sure) sinasabing spoiled brat daw si Ate Kris. Hello?! Understandable kaya yun. It’s a scientific fact that majority of the youngest child turns out to be the apple of the eye of the parents. Di ba? Aminin! Hahaha! Naging ako na for the simplest and most obvious reason. Ako ang pinakamaganda. Hahaha! Charing!

Back to the topic na nga! Inaamin naman ni Ate Kris that she really was spoiled as a child in comparison to Ate Ballsy, Ate Pinky, Ate Viel and Kuya Noy. Charing! Even her siblings are amenable to that fact that Kris indeed was their parents’ favourite. BEFORE.

Take for instance, yung issue niya with men. You can’t have it all you know. Tulad ko, maganda sana pero academically challenged, in short bobita. Hahaha!

Ate Kris is also known for her being frank and occasionally medyo tactless. OCCASIONALLY. Not all the time. Charing! Mas mabuti na rin yun noh kesa naman itinatago pa ang ibang bagay na personal eh public figure naman siya and she owes it to the public to be informed of her life. Dapat no secrets.

As a fan of Kris Aquino, it hurts me if I read something not so nice about her. Especially those comments na nakakasakit na at medyo hindi naman true to the max. Ine-exaggerate pa ng iba. Grabeh! Mabait na kapatid, tita and now, a very caring wife and mother.

Do not judge the book by its cover”. Unfortunately, people always do that to my idol. Why not read it again and perhaps understand the writer’s perspective and dig deeper.

Ganun si Ate Kris. Not everything you see on tv about her is accurate. The way she behaves on tv may not be the real her 24/7. Katulad mo at katulad ko. Hindi naman tayo all the time happy or serious. She’s not perfect too, like you and I. May mga pagkakamali din siya at she knows that and pinagsisisihan na niya ang mga ito. I’m sure kayo rin ay much like Ate Kris, an imperfect creature. Mas worst pa nga siguro yung mga flaws at kasalanan niyo sa parents niyo eh. Charing!

The last few days when Tita Cory was in the hospital up to now na nailibing na siya, we saw a different kind of Kris Aquino. A better one. A mature one. A sad sister. A grieving daughter.

She stood up for her family. She made a statement that I am glad to say, opened the hearts of those who hate her. Like anyone of us will do for our respective families in times of crisis and sorrow, Kris protected and defended hers. She became a strong woman and fought for their rights. We may see her as a vulnerable one because she cries a lot but that’s her weapon against further pain. And she’s just being human. Her tears brought me to tears. I’m sure you cried with her too.

I just hope that in the coming days, Kris will be true to her words. I’m counting on it. And I know I won’t be disappointed.

is is the ‘gurl’ behind “The Misadventures of Mel Beckham”. ‘She’ graduated with a double major in Management and Entrepreneurship. ‘She’ grew up in the city but now lives in the bukid near barrio siete juggling work as a farm manager, office secretary, messenger, construction worker, housemaid, make-up artist and babysitter. Despite ‘her’ busy schedule, ‘she’ finds the time to blog in between work, and errands using ‘her’ primitive mobile phone. ‘She’ plans to take ‘her’ MBA soon but ‘her’ multiple jobs prevent ‘her’ from doing so unless going to school will get ‘her’ paid to pay for ‘her’ utangs. Before ‘she’ dies, ‘she’ hopes of owning a pair of Louboutins, and landing on the cover of Vogue, kahit sa Vogue India lang. Whichever comes first.

nasabi ko na sa email thread yung comment ko for kris. magsusulat nalang ako ng version ko ng kris write up. hehehe

  • reynz says:

hahahah! kairita! dina-daan sa intimidation, coercion and harassment hahaha! but hey! in fairness, i really liked her statement about giving honors to Cory – na hindi kung anong lecheng Malacanang decree but rather, the Filipino people.

PINA-IYAK NYA AKO! GRRRR!

    • Mel says:

Mabuti ka pa Ate Reynz and you are starting to like her na. And yes, that statement against Malacañan really made sense. Very surprising that it came from her.

  • Glo says:

mel…matutuwa lang siguro ako sa kanya pag tinotoo nya yung sabi nya sa eulogy kanina na she will live a life that will make her mother proud.

sana lang. totohanin nya ng mabuti.

kundi stucked pa rin sya sa bad impressions ko sa kanya. buti na lang nagshowbiz sya. at least there she is being paid for being bratty, obnoxius and tactless. ;)

    sorry talaga.

pansin mo, pasaway mga bunso?! ;) hahahaha!!!!!!!!!

ewan…i’m just not a fan ano. i hate that she loves attracting the whole world’s attention. kahit in a very pangit way. ;)

hahaha! shut up glo. shut up!!!!!

    • Mel says:

I understand Ate Glow. That’s why I like it here sa barrio dahil may diversity tayo. I also wish (but I’m optimistic) that Kris will keep her promise and I hope one day (or bukas, hahaha) you will find it in your heart to like her.

      • Glo says:

thank you mel.sino ba yung nagsabi na mutual admiration daw si reyna sa mga kapanalig nya? hahahaa! hindi anoh. even on this matter i disagree with most. but we still love each other in the barrio. ;)

anyways…yeah if she keeps that promise, just maybe…i will like her eventually. she just had to rise above everything. at sana..pagbalik nya sa work nya…eh medyo “tamed” na sya. i guess she will be after all of these. ;)

        • Mel says:

Hahaha! Wala akong time para sa ass-kissing. Walang ganyan dito sa barrio. Baka dun sa kavilang Varrio. Nyahahaha

  • Glo says:

(first hand info po yan!)

then kris had to go through all that hell sa belo clinic issue ni james?! ambot.

i believe she deserves all the happiness in the world. lalo na sa lovelife. ang tingin ko she is always short-selling herself. she deserves a lot more than james yap. kaso kasal na sila at may anak. so magdusa at magtiis. ;) hahahaha!!!!!!!

    • reynz says:

away tooo! hahahaha! AWAY TOOO! tatabi na ako hehehehe! Nasaan si WILLIE?! WILLIE?! DAKDAK KA NGA!!! hahaha

      • Glo says:

;) hahahaha! so go naman ang kris, nag marriage counselor ek-ek. ;) hhahaha!!!!

ewan masyadong forgiving si cory talaga.

kasi kung ako ang nanay ni kris? ipa-annull ko agad kasal nya kay yap matapos pumutok yung sa belo clinic issue. karumal-dumal. sa facial expression ni kris noon, she was crushed! hahahahah. if not for cory? baka humiwalay na sya noon pa! hahahaha. that would have been the best move, imho. ;) hehehehe.

it is really late. patay ako kay mel pag-gising nyan! hahaha.

shut -up na ako. for now. ;) hahaha! i can’t promise di na mag-comment later on. ;) hahahahaha!!!!!!

  • Glo says:

P.S. napansin ko yung photo credit: filipina soul. ;)

tawa naman ako. i was the orig blogger in that blog! hahaha. long story po. wag na. hhehehe.

    • Mel says:

Very intriguing. Kwento ka naman. Hahaha!

      • Glo says:

filipina soul was originally the philippine culture blog. ako ang blogger doon. then anging filipina soul nya nung ma-merge sya sa isang big blog network na canadian-australian-pinay headed. then nagka-leche-leche ang samahan nung magkaron na ng venture capital.

of course pag pera na ang involved? dog eats dog world na. yun lang. ;) hahahaha!!!!!

nag-resign ako from that blog when i wanted to concentrate on my health science/wellness blogging. ;)

  • reynz says:

SINO YANG FILIPINA SOUL?! parehas ba yan nung ano… yong kwan… a images sumtin sumtin? chuchugihin ko ang link na yan! hahahaha!

  • Mahalia says:

  • chuva says:

“You can’t have it all you know. Tulad ko, maganda sana pero academically challenged, in short bobita. Hahaha!”

Bwahahahah! I love you Mel!! Talagang bongga ka!!!!!

    Chuva

  • an2nette says:

Hi! i like kristeta as well although may pagkataklesa talaga siya, nadapa na siya ng ilang beses pero nakakamove on pa rin, i just hope na sana gawin niya kung ano yung pinangako niya sa kanyang mader, huwag na siyang pasaway

    • Mel says:

Yun nga din ang fear ko. What if she goes astray again. Sino na ang sasaway sa kanya. If that happens, malamang magsolian na kami ng kandila.

      • Glo says:

  • Reesie says:

i like her when she gave that speech during Tita Cory’s funeral service. yun lang din yun.. kasi she never fails to make buhat her sariling bangko eh. hahaha. peace mel! i still lab yah!

  • malensky says:

hahha i am one with you mel! I LOVE KRISSY TOO HAHAHA

  • Silver says:

If I were to choose between Willie and Kris, I’d rather take Kris than Willie. I really dont like Willie.

I really agree with that. Occasionally, nagkakaroon ng sablay ang mga tao.

I admit may times talagang irritating si Kris.

Nice post Mel. Keep it up. Gusto ko ang mga posts mo. Hahhaa. :P

    • Mel says:

Silver thanks much. Tutulong ako sag paghahanda mo ng Willie adobo. I have no nice things to say about him especially nung may sinabi siya the last few days. My gosh! Peanut brain talaga!

  • charmaine says:

i don’t like her because she’s so full of herself and is such a name-dropper. when she conducts interviews, she still somehow makes it about her. wala namang nabigay na karangalan sa bansa? isa pa, matapobre siya. sa tv pagmahirap kausap, ang baba ng pagtingin niya, pag mayaman kausap mas mahinahon siya. eto ba ang tinatawag mong honest? ibang-iba siya sa nanay niya. para siyang si ninoy. kaya mabuti na rin na si cory naging pangulo natin at hindi si ninoy.

    • Glo says:

charmaine, ang dami ko nga ding narinig recently na negative about ninoy. anyways…God is great. ;) hahahaha!!!

    • Mel says:

Hi Charmaine. Welcome to Barrio Siete. Thank you for your opinion. For the record, I don’t recall calling Kris as an honest person. Like you and the rest of us, she’s not flawless. And with regards to being disrespectful, I’d like to disagree. I have friends who work with her and they never said Kris being disrespectful. Maarte, yes. Diva, yes. Full of herself, yes. But disrespectful, no.

      • reynz says:

Mel! pwedeng pwede kang Campaign Manager ni Kris in case na mag-decide mag run for politics ang BFF mo and I think she should do that now para mapraktis na sya. She can start as a Konsehal or Meyor. o di ba? Kung ayaw nya, Barangay Tanod Gurl. hahaha

      • Glo says:

bluep, i watched ninoy’s speech in LA sa youtube last night.

      • Silver says:

Ninoy is my personal hero. Everytime na dumadaan ako sa monument nya sa Ayala triangle (to fetch my starbaks from Aling karing…LOL!) I mumble a short prayer for his soul and for the nation. Parang kinakausap ko ang monumento na yun.

I dont recall Ninoy being matapobre or whatsoever. If Ninoy is matapobre as Charmaine claims, how come he is being named as the best president we never had?

And mind you, Ninoy’s political mentor is Ramon Magsaysay. I bet Mr. Magsaysay himself e ayaw sa matapobre.

    • jepoy says:

      matapobre? si kris matapobre? LOL!

  • pehpot says:

Mel Love na kita!! like ko din si Kris pero not that likeness na super fan.. I am deep;y entertained by her.. the way she talks and the way she admits her mistakes.. kahapon nga nagtataalo kame ng asawa ko.. bat daw gustong gusto ko pinapanood si Kris.. sabi ko sa kanya marami naman rason para magustuhan si Kris at isa na dun ay hindi sya feeling perfectus tulad ni ruffa at gretchen hehe

    Make or Break

  • Mel says:

Ate Pehpot nice to hear that. Sana ma-convert mo rin si hubby mo to like Kris. Hihihi

    • yami says:

But Mel bumalik ang paghanga ko sa kanya kahapon nang magsalita siya sa requiem mass ng Mom niya and I cried too, I feel for her.

Napaka-charming.

      • reynz says:

        Yami,

I love that pic where Babay James ba yon or JOSH? yong batang pumapalakpak? I thought that was very cute!!!

        • yami says:

Opo Reynz si Baby James nga ‘yun. Adorable niya noh? Tama si Tita Cory, according kay Kris, charming siya just like her Mommy.

If ever nga na Kris will run for office at dala niya si Baby James sa campaign sortie for sure added ganda points sa kanya ‘yun.

      • Mel says:

Ate Yami, I agree. Hahaha! And yung moment na hinalikan nya si Kris sabay hug, my gosh, MOMENT na MOMENT. Hihi

  • Dinah says:

I watched her speech dun sa mass and it was really heartwarming. oo nga at taklesa si kris pero as a daughter, kita natin how she loved her mother.

  • dFish says:

50/50 din ako sa likings ko kay Kris. I like her flawless skin…Akala ko kahapon sa eulogy, declare na sya for running for office next year hahaha…

    • reynz says:

      dFish!

i was waiting for her to say that na resign na sya sa showbiz and make campaign laban ki Bayani hahahaha para palitan ang PINK nang YELLOW hahah leche! unang pork barrel puro paints hahaha

    • Glo says:

dfish kala ko din she will announce that she will run for office. nag-jo-joke pa naman yan noon kay boy abunda sa SNN that she will run for the highest office in the country — the presidency. ;) hahahaha!!!!!!!

      • reynz says:

quite honestly, I want KRIS to run for Office! I really do! She’s young and she better start now. i believe she’s smart and intelligent and there is room for her to grow better in politics! natutunan naman yan and by that time, hopefully polished na sya and am sure she must have learned already from her past mistakes.

O AYAN MEL. TALAGANG LOVE NA LOVE KO NA SI KRIS! HAHAHAHA!

    • Mel says:

Dfish puede ba 60/40 na lang? 60 yung like, 40 yung love. Zero ang hate. Hahaha

      • dFish says:

  • dFish says:

Boy Abunda is more grounded to me than Willie R.Fermin is all for exposure…

  • Lani says:

Hindi ko din masyado type si Kris pero sa eulogy kahapon, i was so touched. I saw a different Kris. Suddenly, i admired her. And i noticed, she looks much younger when in grief and walang heavy make up. Mas lalo syang gumanda pag hindi fully made up. And most of all, i love her chanel earrings! So beautiful!

  • Mel says:

hayaan nyo na, waray kasi! may sariling sense of fashion. ;) hahaha!

;) hehehe.

    • Glo says:

great point bluep and i agree. she has to do more before i will embrace her and love her. well…maybe politics will be her salvation.

wag na sya mag talk show host or game show host!. bad trip pag mahirap ang contestant. tignan nyo ang game ka na ba? mas tumaas rating now that edu is the host. mas naging pang-masa na sya!

  • saint or sinner, you cannot ignore kris! whatever she says, it really catches the attention of everybody. i like her though, pati lola ko like din siya…

    • Glo says:

    • reynz says:

aba! si Father andito pala! hahaha! you are not making habol to me with all the litraks na ninakaw ko sa site mo, right? hahaha! welcome sa Barrio Fr!

  • dencios says:

I like kris, but not super like, parang pareho kami ni Pehpot. And yes, what is there not to like. She entertains us. Kung inis ka sa kanya, she got into you kasi nainis ka nga. Ika nga, whoever angers you, conquers you. ;)

I like this article mel. Kamusta po!

  • Jules says:

i’m not a fan of kris, pero nung inapi sya ni joey m., at nung nagkaron ng james yap-hope scandal, kampi ako kay kris.

nang makita ko sya sa manila cathedral (after several hours na nakapila sa ulanan) just a few feet behind Tita Cory’s casket, she’s saying thanks to us and i looked at her eyes and i felt like crying. kahapon mega cry kami sa mga sinabi nya kase we can feel her pain.

she’s not perfect just like us pero ang DNA nya will always remind us that there is greatness in her. hindi lang sa movie and entertainment ha!

  • nina says:

I like her kaartehan before the STD issue… hahahahha after that yo ko na sa kanya…

  • ark says:

It’s either you hate her or love her lang naman eh. I hate her pagkaOA pero I love her being smart. Matalino talaga siya at magaling magsalita. And I think genuine naman ung mga sinasabi nia.

  • charmaine says:

    blupanjeet-
ALL negative critcisms about ninoy? since when was any human being perfect? just because people have negative things to say about ninoy, it doesn’t make them marcos loyalists. what kind of twisted logic is that? pag may sinabi ang tao na di mabuti tungkol kay gma, maka-erap na siya?

i never said ninoy was matapobre. i said kris was. cory said among her children kris is the most akin to ninoy. maybe their abilitiy to charm people with speeches is what they have in common. great. the only difference is ninoy used it mostly to fight a dictatorship, while kris uses it mostly to highlight her life or to rally people into fighting her petty squabbles. the thought that our national hero is like kris aquino is extremely disturbing. the woman is simply not a model for my children. i was referring to kris when i said, anong karangalan ang naihatid niya sa ating bansa?

i will give points to ninoy for courage, but i saw this courage backed by political ambition. and political ambition, as history has taught us, is a double-edged sword, and a most dangerous one at that. at huwag mo kong tawaging “baby.” much less preach to me about my history. don’t patronize me because you know nothing about me, a*hole.

as for kris, paumanhin mel, i forgot to point out that your article was entertaining. i disagree with it, but it did make me laugh. naiyak din ako when kris spoke at her mother’s funeral. she has just lost her mother, and i do love and admire cory aquino. but that’s as far as my sympathy for kris goes. i still think her vain, vulgar, nosy, hurtful, patronizing, insensitive, snobbish, and hypocritical. she makes people around her uncomfortable. and if her best virtues are she’s human and she’s being true to herself, then i think it’s about time she find better ones. and pls correct the title, dapat “not all hate kris.”

    • reynz says:

      Charmaine,

It was La Kapitana who edited the title and the title “Not all HATE”S” Kris was mine. It’s not Bluepanjeet nor the Author’s mistake. It was mine. Sorry for the mistaken, but I’d rather not change it to give you credittes.

    • reynz says:

      wow Charmaine,

i read it again and you seem to have a lot of hatred with Kris Aquino. it would have been nice if you’re not anonymous because it’s not fair on our part since we are transparent.

typically anonymous commenters seemed to have all the free reign with their attacks, but not responsible enough for their words and i hope you take some responsibility also from what you have written by identifying yourself. thats one way of gaining credibility. mind starting to take steps towards gaining credibility?

  • Rosa says:

It was only recently that I began watching Filipino shows and I find her funny and likeable. I have no background info about her so I can only say she comes across as just being frank and full of life so I like watching her in the Buzz. She can’t help if she namedrops since she is very connected.

  • charmaine says:

mahalia, what are you talking about? some indefinite pronouns are always singular, like those ending in -one, -thing, -body. on the other hand other indefinite pronouns like all, none, or some may be singular or plural depending on the words they refer to.
ex. “all of the dress is white” vs. “all of the dresses are white.” in the sentence “not all hates kris” all refers to “people” which is plural.

reynz, it’s sad and rather juvenile that you refuse to change something not because you think it’s right, but because it will give somebody credit. credit which i neither seek nor desire i may add. as for your suggestion, it may give me credibility but it’s also an open invitation for the kris aquino brigade to hound my doorstep. no thanks. and don’t confuse my low opinion of kris with hatred. just stating an opinon that’s all. my comment would have ended with one post, but a second one was warranted because i was advised, rather patronizingly, to “know my history baby.” i had to put my foot down on that. if i came across as strident, that tone was meant for bluepanjeet and not kris.

    • reynz says:

      quite frankly charmaine,

reynz, it’s sad and rather juvenile that you refuse to change something not because you think it’s right, but because it will give somebody credit.

now, now, now! don’t be such juvenile that just because I refused to give you lollipop and you’ll call me juvenile. that doesn’t work that way sweetheart.

what’s really juvenile and childish is to hide behind the anonymity and indulge in this kind of commenting. read: you have no balls. there’s nothing immature of not changing the way it is, the way it was because our position is actually correct. but even if you are correct, still i would not change it. and there’s no juvenile matter about it. nada.

be our editor and start from the 1st post, i assure you, this is gonna be a project on your end. have fun and report to me what else needs to be corrected.

who knows, by the end of your project, maybe you’d be able to convince me that this blog shall now be called a BARRIO THESIS project.

now, let’s go back to you being such a grammar nazi:

some indefinite pronouns are always singular, like those ending in -one, -thing, -body. on the other hand other indefinite pronouns like all, none, or some may be singular or plural depending on the words they refer to.

use of the word “OTHER” and “LIKE” is not very conclusive to me. did you just confuse yourself? if you are going to tell us that “Not all hates Kris” is wrong, your rule has to be conclusive. would you care to review your thesis and get back with us?

    • Mahalia says:

In the case of this title, All signifies the whole. The mass and not individual or collective units of people. I think we do not have any disagreements here if you are referring to all as a collection of people. But in this case, the title wasn’t a complete sentence and did not describe All. Which follows the rule: indefinite pronouns that can be singular or plural must always follow singular verb.

      • Mahalia says:

and to add to the singular/plural discussion, let me categorize where each indefinite pronoun belongs:

Singular: another, anybody, anyone, anything, each, either, everybody, everyone, everything, little, much, neither, nobody, no one, nothing, one, other, somebody, someone, something

Plural: both, few, many, others, several

Singular or Plural: all, any, more, most, none, some

        • Lani says:

Wow! Im learning a lot.. Thank u Ms. Mahalia, Sir Blue and Mahal na Reynz..

        • Reesie says:

may grammar 101 pala dito? puede pa-enroll?

agree ako kay mahalia, “all” was not defined therefore it should be followed by a singular verb. if “all” was defined, let’s say “Not All Filipinos Hate Kris”…

Mel, palitan kaya natin yung title : “All hates Kris”? para klaro di ba? Hahaha. Peace, Mel. Mwah!

Mali pala yung kasabihan na: All is well that ends well or All is fair in love and war ? Or yung idiom na “All goes out the window”?

  • charmaine says:

bluepanjeet – uh huh. if you considered everything in that post to be the things that ninoy and kris have in common, then didn’t it strike you as odd for ninoy to be conducting interviews or namedropping? and when i said “wala namang nabigay na karangalan sa bansa,” obviously that criticism is something she did not share with her father. maybe i should have placed “ibang-iba siya sa nanay niya etc.” in a separate paragraph para hindi ka nalito. my mistake.

as it was unclear in my first post what ninoy and kris have in common, i think i made it less so in the second. to continue the quote (the part which you deleted to serve your purpose) “maybe their abilitiy to charm people with speeches is what they have in common.” kung gusto mong pagpilitan yung matapobre kahit clinarify ko na sa ikalawang post, problema mo na yon.

but i still stand by what i said. i saw political ambition in ninoy, and that is something i have learned to always always be wary of. and i see negative things in kris, which some people are either blind to or find excusable. now if it’s true that father and daughter have MUCH in common, then i’m glad that cory, instead of ninoy, became our president.

as for the rest of your post, it was just too long and stupid for me to reply to.

reynz – the error was a glaring (and basic) s-v agreement error, and it’s part of the title, so i pointed it out. ikaw ang nagsabing ayaw mong palitan JUST TO GIVE ME CREDIT. so i said if that’s your reason, then that’s childish. now it turns out you have better, but still rather odd, reasons. ok, no big deal. and i don’t recall correcting every grammatical error you or anyone else made (although now that you’ve put it on the table, you have made quite a few).

i don’t see what’s particularly wrong with using “other” to refer to other indefinite pronouns. “such as” would have been a better subsitute for like, but it’s not a rule cast in stone, the way the s-v agreement rule you violated is. but do enlighten me about my mistake if you have the time or inclination.

  • charmaine says:

mahalia – not all hate(s) kris IS a complete sentence. it’s a clause with a complete thought. in that sentence, the subject is “all,” and the verb is “hate.”

not everybody hates kris would be correct. and so would
    not all (persons) hate kris.

yes i know, those which could be singular or plural also include fractions and percents. what’s your point?

as for n/either, they are not always singular. it depends on the word it goes with. “n/either of” is always singular. if you have “either/or” the subject you consider is the one closer to the verb.

as for collective nouns, they are not always singular either. if the collective noun does the action as a group, it’s singular. if it does the action separately, or as individuals, it’s plural.

and even if “all” did refer to people, it doesn’t function as a collective noun, but simply as the plural form of “person.”

  • charmaine says:

mahalia – there is NO such rule that indefinite pronouns which could be singular or plural must always follow the singular verb. they would simply be considered as singular indefinite pronouns if that were the case.

rule with sing/pl. indefinite pronouns is:

singular – if it refers to a singular noun
plural – if it refers to a plural noun

ex. NONE (of the PIE) WAS eaten.
NONE (of the PIES) WERE eaten.

    • Mahalia says:

Hey Thanks! You are right with your argument I totally agree. I learned something… (from your discussion and my further research) Although, all wasn’t described in the title. all can mean emotion, a pie, the people, toilet paper, or whatever.

    • reynz says:

      charmaine:

it’s as easy as this: try this one as pointed out by Mahalia and Reesie:

“all” was not defined therefore it should be followed by a singular verb. if “all” was defined, let’s say “Not All Filipinos Hate Kris”…

      GETZ?!

  • Reesie says:

  • Emmeline says:

    Charmaine–

Why do you have to keep on pointing out that Ninoy was just moved by his political ambitions? In the first place, he is a POLITICIAN. Somehow being a POLITICIAN makes him tick. He puts passion in what he does and for you it was just ambition. May be, just may be it was ambition but that ambition of his brought us the freedom the we now enjoy. That ambition made him GREAT and he was declared a National HERO for crying out loud. Ninoy achieved the GREATNESS he and his family have never imagined. So now I can say, it also pays when you are ambitious or a dreamer and do something about it. Don’t you think?

On grammar (disclaimer: I am no english major but an accountant/auditor), you yourself committed mistakes. Check your compositions, will you. So no reason to highlight other people’s mistakes. Remember that we don’t say “all are well” but rather “all is well”. Think about it. So the singular/plural form is resolved for that matter.

I think Bluepanjeet and others enjoyed your company here in Barrio Siete. The company made them tick. =)

  • Reesie says:

Tayo nalang ang magsungka-an chuva. Ala si lee at si darbs eh. Hahaha.

  • Mel says:

Hi Charmaine. First of all I want to thank you because you were entertained by my entry.
I’m just sad that you seem to have a lot of hatred towards Ms. Kris Aquino and as a fan your words are very hurtful. I respect your opinion though because like you I also hate a lot of people, like Osama Bin Laden and Gloria Arroyo. My wish for you is that one day you may want to channel your hatred for Kris to other people, perhaps to the ones I mentioned above because they totally deserve hatred and not on someone like Kris who I believe deserves the opposite.
She may not have brought glory to our country yet but who knows, maybe in the coming days.

  • Mel says:

    and pahabol:

“i still think her vain, vulgar, nosy, hurtful, patronizing, insensitive, snobbish, and hypocritical. she makes people around her uncomfortable.”

i have friends who worked with her before and some were part of her show’s audience and none of them felt uncomfortable on or off camera. intimidating perhaps.

unless you yourself experienced it first hand and you felt that way, then i’m so sad to hear that.

sabi nga ni melanie marquez, “it’s not her problem anymore, it’s your problem anymore”.

    that’s all. lol

kaya nga sinabi ko na double-edged sword ang political ambition hindi ba? besides, i’d rather have a satesman than a politician. but marcos was a great foe to defeat– may halo pang mga komunista sa eksena– so people really had to rally together for a change of government. ninoy was a great choice to lead the opposition — he had a sharp tongue and was not afraid to use it. maybe the fact na magka-frat pa sila ni marcos also helped. that ambition may have made him achieve what he has, but that is not without its less desirable side. if you’d like to view ninoy from rose-colored glasses then that’s your prerogative. basta ako masaya ako na ang pangulo natin nung nagpalit tayo ng konstitusyon nung 1987 ay walang ambisyong manatili sa pagiging pangulo.

as for all’s well that ends well, that’s taken from the early modern english period. we stilll understand english from that period, but it’s slightly different from the english we speak now. i don’t think it’s grammatically correct to say things like “i grow to you” or “dared to the combat” anymore. si shakespeare pwede, panahon niya yon. moreover, he’s given poetic license. the parallelism and alliteration he used in that sentence wrapped it up very nicely. also, idiomatic expressions are given leeway.

tama rin naman ang “all are well,” depending on what you’re referring to. ex. “all (the patients) are well.”

check mahalia’s other comment. ni-research niya na nga yung rule.

if i made what you consider glaring grammatical errors, then point them out if you want to. i will correct them kung mali naman talaga. pinuna ko lang naman yung grammar, kase hindi naman siya bahagi nang isang comment lamang. bahagi siya nung article, at pamagat pa. and it seemed like a basic s-v agreement error to me, hindi naman kung anu-anong technique in writing ang problema. pero kung palagay mo tama grammar non, ok bahala ka.

    reynz -

kahit na hindi defined ang “all,” it still refers to something. katulad ng sentence na “run.” kahit walang subject, we know that the subject of the verb is “you.” kaya plural ang ginamit na verb. (you) run. “all” in the sentence “not all hate(s) kris” refers to a plural noun, even if it’s not written in the sentence. kaya nga pwede maging singular o plural yung mga indefinite pronouns na kagaya ng “all.”

    mel -

ok, i’m sorry for hurting your feelings. i didn’t mean to. she’s very lucky to have a fan like you. and yes, the article is funny. :)

although i don’t think it makes sense to advise me to channel my critcism toward gma or osama, the same way i don’t ask you to channel your applause to lea salonga or joana ampil.

      Charmaine,

      let me quote you:

kahit na hindi defined ang “all,” it still refers to something. katulad ng sentence na “run.” kahit walang subject, we know that the subject of the verb is “you.” kaya plural ang ginamit na verb. (you) run. “all” in the sentence “not all hate(s) kris” refers to a plural noun, even if it’s not written in the sentence. kaya nga pwede maging singular o plural yung mga indefinite pronouns na kagaya ng “all.”

and let me quote the quote:

kaya nga pwede maging singular o plural yung mga indefinite pronouns na kagaya ng “all.”

      kaya nga the statement:

not all hates kris iS korak.

so, what is it that you were not in agreement again?

      • charmaine says:

        reynz -

you are not given free reign to choose kung anong gusto mong number para sa “all.” it can be singular or plural, true, but IT DEPENDS ON THE SENTENCE. IF IN THE SENTENCE, the indefinite pronoun “all” REFERS TO A SINGULAR NOUN, it’s SINGULAR. YOU CANNOT MAKE IT PLURAL in THAT PARTICULAR SENTENCE.

now if “all” REFERS TO A PLURAL NOUN in the sentence, THEN YOU MUST USE A PLURAL VERB IN THAT SENTENCE. hindi pwedeng singular verb.

        so kapag sinabi mong

all men is equal. mali yon.

kahit tanggalin ko pa yung “men”

        all is equal.

kase alam natin na “all” refers to a plural noun.

hindi siya kagaya nang indefinite pronouns such as everything, no one, etc. THEY ARE ALWAYS SINGULAR NO MATTER WHAT THE SENTENCE IS.

        • reynz says:

          Charmaine,

IT DEPENDS ON THE SENTENCE. IF IN THE SENTENCE, the indefinite pronoun “all” REFERS TO A SINGULAR NOUN, it’s SINGULAR. YOU CANNOT MAKE IT PLURAL in THAT PARTICULAR SENTENCE.

In other words, kung ang ibig sabihin nang sentence ko sa pag-gamit nang “ALL” eh singular, eh di singular. kung ang paggamit ko eh ang ibig sabihin eh plural, eh di plural.

Ok… so nag explain ka pa to refer to the ALL at eto ang sinabi mo

all men is equal. mali yon. kahit tanggalin ko pa yung “men” all is equal. kase alam natin na “all” refers to a plural noun. hindi siya kagaya nang indefinite pronouns such as everything, no one, etc. THEY ARE ALWAYS SINGULAR NO MATTER WHAT THE SENTENCE IS.

in other words, an sabi mo here: CONCLUSIVE na “ALL” are always singular.

Getz mo ko na shadow boxing ka?

          • charmaine says:

not all (of one person) HATES kris

            o sa maraming tao?

not all (of the people) HATE kris

KAHIT NA WALA YUNG SALITANG “OF THE PEOPLE” sa sentence na yon, alam natin na MARAMI ang tinutukoy ng “all” sa sentence. KAYA SIYA PLURAL SA SENTENCE NA YON.

nung pinuna ko yung maling grammar sa title, ginawa ko lang yon kase PAMAGAT SIYA nung article. kung pwede mo namang gawing tama, why don’t you? kaya nga ineedit ang mga article, para pag pinublish, tama siya. inisip ko hahanapin mo na lang sa google bakit ko nasabing mali yon, realize the error, and change it. ang simple hindi ba? pa-credit credit ka pa. hindi naman ito matter of opinion na pwede nating pagdebatihan. humahaba ang diskusyon not because you don’t understand the grammar, but because you want to prove me wrong, even if a simple google search will show you i’m correct. pinuna ko ba grammar ng mga comment? hindi. if you can’t accept your mistake, that’s your problem. tinutulungan ka na nga para maayos mo gawa mo, ang arte arte mo pa.

Freedom of speech was one of the legacy Cory Aquino left to us, so if the Eklats in the world wants to correct grammars and spellings, let them.If they want to show the world their narrow minds, let them. It doesn’t matter. What’s important is you were able to express your feelings, views, and ideals and a lot of people support you. I’m with you in your fight. And no, I don’t fight my battles on the net, I do them face to face where I can scratch their eyeballs out with my long nails manicured every week by home service courtesy of Ate Jek2.

    • Mahalia says:

    • reynz says:

wag seryusuhin Emmeline hahaha! after all, ang simula nang Barrio Siete was that, we bastardize and rape the english language nga kaya one of the reason of our existence eh yan nga ang patunayan na ki balekwa english namen, me pinapatunayan kame and i believe we just have hahahaha

nawala na nga si Charmaine di ba? baka sinumlan sa unang entries namen, maraming mali dyan hehehe we love her to enjoy our grammatically raped entries

  • eser says:

    agree! agree! and super agree!

    natuwa ako..
    salamat!

  • Nova Madrid says:

You’re right, “Not all hates Kris” because more people like her. So, those who hate her are in the minority. My basis?

    1. Her sangkatutak na endorsements. Business is business. Who would pay her millions as product endorser if she has no track record for being effective? If she can influence people to buy the products she endorses, those people must like her a lot.

    2. Before Sarah Geronimo’s two blockbuster movies, her ‘Sukob” was the top earning local movie. She has not made another movies since then, by choice, according to press releases.

    3. She is an ABS-CBN contract star but news about her are carried by the other TV networks and newspapers.

So, whether we like it or not, she is lucky to have the personality that majority of Filipinos like.

  • Red says:

Ay ngayon ko lang nabasa itong tungkol kay Kris, pina cut off ko kasi ang internetko because of my finances . But now meron na ulit and this is the first time I read about this ‘Not all Hates Kris” Honestly speaking, before I realy don’t like but hate is not the right word for me. Kasi ng ma involve siya kay Philip S, pakiramdam ko dinungisan niya ang namesung ng kanyang father and mother but after that episode in her life I am beginning to like her more . The way she talks, wow very intelligent. Compare to other female actress parang siya ang pinakamatalino. The more I admire her ng mabasa ko na among the stars siya ang the best na nagbabayad ng tax, parang binigyan pa yata siya ng award ng BIR for being a good payer.Kung siya ang kakandidato, I will surely vote for her, tulad nga ng sabi niya , she may be somebody else but she is not a liar an I believe her. Sana si Noynoy ay kasing husay niyang magsalita at kasing husay ni Ninoy magtalumpati , for sure win na si Ninoy for president. I really enjoy this , kaya thank you sa nagpost . Ang ayaw ko lang ay iyong nabasang parang nagpapatalbugan ng husay sa English, maybe because I am not that god like them.
