Not yet, Noynoy
Huwag ka sanang magpadala kay Conrado de Quiros o kay Alex Magno o kay Bongbong Marcos (strange bedfellows, eh?) na hinahamon kang tumakbo for president sa 2010, na para bang if you dont seize the day ay tipong you will miss the bus altogether.
I so disagree. While it is true that you could win because of the Ninoy-Cory-Kris connection, are you really ready? The nation would expect great things of you. The nation would expect you to be a president extraordinaire who would at the very least bring about a palpable improvement in the lives of millions of Filipinos looking for jobs here at home and food on the table three times a day. That won’t happen just because you aren’t a liar, a cheat, or a thief.
I agree with Tony Abaya, what we need is a forward-looking president, a truly revolutionary president, someone with the attributes and visions of Lee Kwan Yew, Mahathir Mohamad and Gen. Park Chung Hee.
… it is someone who has the qualities of these three foreign leaders that the Philippines badly needs in order to overcome decades of consistently poor governance, restore our badly battered self esteem, and draw for us a credible vision of what we want our country to be.
We need someone like Lee Kwan Yew who was/is personally incorruptible and at the same time was/is so conversant with economics and international relations that he could speak ex-tempore and defend his policies before an assembly of multinational CEOs and diplomats and made/make solid sense, whether they agreed/agree with him or not.
In addition we need the strong sense of nationalism of Mahathir Mohamad who in the 1980s drew a vision – Malaysia Vision 2020, that sought and seeks to transform Malaysia into a fully industrialized country by the year 2020 – that he was able to convince the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-religious people of Malaysia to embrace as worthy of their national loyalty, beyond the narrow appeals of their tribes and ethnic groups. No mean feat, considering the catastrophic demise of equally multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-religious federal Yugoslavia in the 1990s that cost hundreds of thousands of lives.
Mahathir’s nationalism also expressed itself in his readiness to fearlessly fire back at other countries, other world leaders, as well as international agencies whenever he felt they were trampling on the national self-interests of Malaysia.
We also need the single-minded determination of Gen. Park Chung Hee to transform his impoverished, resource-poor and inconsequential Republic of Korea from 1961 to 1979 (when he was assassinated) into a fully industrialized country that is now one of the ten biggest economies in the world.
… this is what the Philippines needs, a leader who can start and lead a revolution, a peaceful one, as much as possible; a violent one, if necessary.
You could be that leader, Noynoy. Given your parents, the history, the genes, the values, you, more than any other Filipino, can do it, can be it. But not without serious preparation for the role, which would mean learning not just from your mother’s successes but also from her mistakes — e.g., land reform, foreign debts, atbp. — and, most importantly, by being truly your father’s son not just in terms of his sacrifice but also of his political ideology.
When your father came home in ‘83 he had a program of action that he drafted while in exile in boston. Surely that program of action is worth looking into — other than the dismantling of military rule, things haven’t changed much, except gotten worse, since the 80s — and hopefully, you will be up to the revolutionary challenges it poses.
Forget de Quiros and other hopeless romantics who urge you to run in 2010. To do so, and to fail at non-violent revolution because you are not ready, would be the end of you. In effect, you’d be neutralized, which would be a shame.

I also have mixed emotions about Noynoy running. But while I may agree qith Mr. Abaya, I just hope there is one among us who could fit that shoe and save the country. If Noynoy is not yet ready, may the time he need to get ready does not dim the gratitude of the people towards his family.
I’d vote for NOYNOY blindly pa rin. But after nung entry ni Amor
http://barriosiete.com/why-i-wouldn%E2%80%99t-vote-for-noynoy/
it made me think that indeed, i have not yet seen Noynoy’s leadership abilities and i’m not saying this in a negative way but i wanted him to show me the leader in him.
para saken, what’s behind them asking Noynoy to run? and the other big question really is – if it’s not Noynoy – sino?!
i’d say, THIS GUY: JAZA
http://barriosiete.com/jaime-augusto-zobel-de-ayala-for-2010-philippine-president-movement/
who’s gonna come with me and convince this guy to run?
Ah ok……… siya pala si JAZA……. isa na naman palaisipan yan….
@Reynz – I also like JAZA for President pero if he declined to run, mas gugustuhin kong iboto na si Noynoy kaysa naman maupo ang hindi karapat-dapat.
To be honest, may potential siya to the highest level.
If ever Sen. Ninoy Aquino will decide to run for the highest political position for the country… I WILL VOTE FOR HIM.
In my opinion he is fit for that position compare among the aspiring candidates for Presidency.
NINOY FOR PRESIDENT.
it’s “noynoy” not the father. yup, i know its just a typo error. hehehe
Noy and the Aquino family has an announcement to make daw on September 9. The 40th day of Tita Cory’s death. May kinalaman yata ito sa decision ng pamilya about plans for next year. Juice ko, parang kinakabahan yata ako. I’m keeping my fingers ang long slender legs crossed. Hehehe
Not that I dont like noy, but I think he needs more training and more things to prove us. Yeah, if ever he will run for president this incoming election, there’s a big chance he might win. I hope he can prove us all that he is strong in leading our country. Sa totoo lang, looking on the list of predentiable wannabees, I rather choose not to vote, because there is no really an option to choose from. All trapos. So yeah, Ill vote noy if he will run rather than wasting my single vote to those trapos and suffer further.
politics here in pinas is really a piece of joke.
Ang lagi kong hinahanap right after basahin ang mga opinions at the end of the article is.. kung hindi si noynoy, sino?
Halos lahat ng mga nagsusulat na hindi agree sa pagtakbo ni noynoy as president e wala namang suggestion kung sino ang pwede at makaka-satisfy sa kanilang requirements. At least if you don’t like the guy, suggest somebody else and give us the reason why? Para meron tayong other worthy choice di ba?
So sino?
same with me Leo. kung hindi si Noynoy, sino?
Me sagot ako.
Eto…
hehehehe

agree din ako dyan reynz! kaso mukhang sobrang liit ng chance para kumandidato si JAZA. magpagawa kaya tayo ng tarps at isabit sa kahabaan ng ayala.. JAZA for President! .. hehe
would you rather not vote?
sabi nga ni pareng Edmund Burke, “For evil men to triumph it is only necessary for good men to do nothing”
wala pa tayong lee kuan yew in our midst
wala pa tayong barack obama in our midst
wala pa tayong nelson mandela in our midst
wala na tayong ninoy aquino in our midst
wala na tayong raul roco in our midst
but the next best thing we have right now is noynoy.
..or grace padaca?
..or JAZA?
..or chiz?(<<-pag iisipan ko pa ito ng matagal)
i’ve heard about grace padacA…AND she really has the potential. i would vote for her rather than noynoy and if jaza wouldn’t run.
hmmmmmm kung hindi si noynoy, sino? inaabangan ko ang platform ng bawat kandidato. including jaza. including noynoy, he might surprise us, i agree. but no platform, no dice. ibig sabihin, same-same lang yan. di na lang ako boboto malamang.
Maam Angela… did I miss something?! did jaza declare he’s running?! I did not read those entries abt jaza dahil sa tingin ko he’s good but i don’t think he should also be in politics…
Liberal Party should make up its mind for the good of the country. Noynoy’s rising must make Mar nervous these days. But hey, lest they forget – Kiko is very much presidentiable in his steely convictions just in case Noynoy and Mar will be caught endlessly in a stalemate…
dFish, yes, the Liberal Party is so divided na nga, lalo pang gumagrabe. and you’re right too about Kiko. kahit di ko pa nakakalimutan yung kanyang “Noted!” nung canvass ng 2004 hello-garci elections, parang bumibigat ang dating niya as an independent vice-presidentiable.
I was reading Conrado de Quiros’ There’s the Rub for the past 2 weeks, and I’d have to say kung magpapadala ka sa emotion how he writes and the emotions that was evoked among the Filipinos nung Aug. 5, haay baka maging tanga nanaman tayo.
No, I am not saying na hindi kaya ni Noynoy. I think na maybe he can, maybe… however a bigger part of me also thinks na hindi pa siya hinog. Ninoy was actually ready, Noynoy hasn’t even decided to do anything about it.
Oo, there are clamor ng mga taong bayan needing reform, pero can Noynoy really do it? Parang mahirap yata yung point na andyan na siya tsaka pa lang siya mahihinog. He can still do something habang nasa Senate pa siya… The Hunt for the next Philippine President is still on.
i read it too monique! talagang madadala ka. but we can’t let this too much emotion rule over us dahil in the end tayo ang na-a-argabyado. so, yeah! the hunt is still on!
Pareho lang yan sa isang romantikong kasabihan na “Bahala na Saging Basta Loving” hello?!!??! Earth to the Filipino people!! over over!!
poor Noynoy. even if he had the potential, the shadows of Cory and Ninoy is far too intimidating.
[...] Saan ba sila nagtatago? Which was swak sa sigaw ni Monique dito sa blog entry ni Angela Stuart. She said, “The Hunt for the next Philippine President is still [...]
Read this from spoiledbrat in another blog, very informative:
I think it’s high time we examine NoyNoy Aquino as a man purely on what he has made out of his life, and not based on the greatness of his parents. If people look at him from this point of view, I think they’d be better informed on whether he really is fit for the presidency. There is no doubt that Ninoy and Cory Aquino belong to the pantheon of great Filipinos. Greatness however is not inherited. It is something you make for yourself. Ninoy’s parents weren’t great. And Cory’s parents were simple folks. But Ninoy and Cory grew up to be great persons. It would be ignorant and foolish to assume that just because they are great, Noynoy would be great too. Mahatma Gandhi became an Indian hero and a world icon for humanity. He had four sons. But the world doesn’t really know what those sons did with their lives – because they did not inherit their father’s greatness. John Lennon is a humanitarian and a musical genius. But his son, Julian, did not inherit his humanity and compassion nor his gift for songwriting. Dodot Jaworski did not inherit his father, Bobby Jaworski’s shooting and passing skills in basketball. Kris Aquino is Cory’s very own flesh and blood. But while Cory exudes dignity and class, Kris at times is crass and pedestrian. You either have greatness or you don’t. Ballsy, Cory and Ninoy’s eldest, at least inherited her parents dignified demeanor. Now back to Noynoy Aquino. He has a degree of Economics from Ateneo De Manila University. It’s a great school known for its graduates who went on to become great people. But Noynoy was not one of its great students. He wasn’t even a student leader in his time. Noynoy went on to sales and marketing for two great companies: Nike Philippines and Mondragon Int’l. Sales and marketing, and for that you went to Ateneo? Those were the only jobs he held that he got based on his resume and not based on his parent’s name. Because after those jobs, he went on to work for his uncle’s company and eventually their family’s sugar company at Hacienda Luisita. Even in private life, he used his family connections to earn a living. He served three terms in Congress representing Tarlac, his family’s district and for which he had great chances of winning because it is Aquino/Cojuangco country after all. People would be surprised to know that at one point he was Deputy Speaker, because he was barely visible, he barely talked and he barely sponsored bills. In effect, he was a forgettable congressman. He is now a Senator of the Republic to which he owes greatly to his own sister, Kris, and his mother Cory, who both used their popularity during the elections to campaign for a forgettable brother and son. The presidency is the highest position in the country. It is not meant for people who are still on the OJT stage (on-the-job training). It is a position meant for great people. This country can only achieve greatness if we put great people on the steering wheel. To pass the mantle of greatness from Ninoy and Cory to a son who has so far haven’t done anything great in his life would demean and cheapen the legacies that Ninoy and Cory left behind. Cory did not survive 9 coup attempts, and Ninoy did not breathe his last breath on a dirty airport tarmac for it to be used as their forgettable son’s publicity tool for his presidential ambition. This country is not that HOPELESS to settle for MEDIOCRITY.
My Comment:
Thanks for pointing this out. I’m saying, Here we go again, handing the presidency on a silver platter to someone who has absolutely no executive experience and whose performance both in Congress and the Senate has been disappointing. There’s a reason why, just over a month ago, Noynoy Aquino was not on anyone’s radar for vice-president, let alone president of this country, and that has been because, both on a personal plane and in politics, Noynoy’s performance has been mired in mediocrity. When Noynoy ran for the Senate, I did not vote for him. The question I asked myself and my friends at that time was, Why should I waste my vote on this guy who hasn’t done any significant piece of legislation in his three terms in Congress? Because his mother was trying to find a career for a son who couldn’t stand up on his own that he had to rely on family connections and the family name to get by? Last I checked, we have democratic and republican form of government. Lineage doesn’t count. We’re not a monarchy. We don’t pass around titles simply because someone has the right genes. Noynoy’s heart is not with the Filipino masses. At the height of the Hacienda Luisita standoff, where several farmers died, Noynoy, acting as the family spokesman was unequivocally on the side of his family’s interests. Cory, interestingly, kept her distance and maintained her silence but Noynoy was all over the place defending his family’s interests. I think there are a lot of people with their hearts in the right place who can lead this country, not the trapos, not the allies of this government. Maawa naman po tayo sa Pilipinas. This is not the Marcos regime. No one has been assasinated. We have a working Supreme Court and a democratic Constitution. Caloy
I will still vote for Noynoy even if he lacks experience.
because what matters to me now is the never ending issue of corruption. My friends personally knows him and they are very consistent in saying that Noynoy is not corrupt.
let’s put it this way: okay, I agree other presidentiables has better
experience compared to him BUT they are also doing well in CORRUPTING.
That’s all!
Noynoy is my president! i believe he can lead our country well.
Thanks.
