Noynoy Aquino’s 10-point basic education agenda

1. 12-year Basic Education Cycle
I will expand the basic education cycle, from a 10-year cycle to a globally-comparable 12 years, for our public school children. At present, those who can afford basic education get into the best universities and the best jobs after graduation.
2. Universal preschooling for all
All public school children will have preschool as their introduction to formal schooling by 2016, and we will make this available to all children regardless of income.
3. Madaris education as a sub-system within the education system
I want a full basic education for all Muslim Filipino children. This is to give proper respect to their culture while providing a sound curriculum in English, Filipino, science, and math. Madaris education, with subjects in Arabic language and Islamic values education, can be integrated in our public school curriculum as additional subjects.
4. Technical vocational education as an alternative stream in senior high school.
I will reintroduce technical-vocational education in our public high schools to better link schooling to local industry needs and employment. We need to provide an educational alternative to better prepare the students for the world of work.
5. “Every child a reader” by Grade 1
By the end of the next administration, every child must be a reader by Grade 1.
At the core of our children’s non-learning problems is the inability to read properly. By the end of the next administration (SY 2015-16), every child passing pre-school must be a reader by Grade 1.
6. Science and Math proficiency
I will rebuild the science and math infrastructure in schools so that we can produce more scientists, engineers, technicians, technologists and teachers in our universities so that this country can be more globally competitive in industry and manufacturing. To build a culture for science and math, I will promote science and math clubs and fairs.
7. Assistance to private schools as essential partners in basic education
I will expand government assistance to private education. A strong private school system will strengthen our public schools by providing parents an alternative and not adding to the overcrowding.
8. Medium of instruction rationalized
We should become trilingual nation: Learn English well and connect to the world. Learn Filipino well and connect to our country. Retain your dialect and connect with your heritage.
9. Quality textbooks
I will not tolerate poor textbook quality in our schools. Textbooks will be judged by three criteria: quality, better quality, and more quality. Poor quality textbooks have no place in our schools.
10. Covenant with the local governments to build more schools
I will build more schools in areas where there are no public or private schools in partnership with local governments, as well address our persistent classroom and teacher shortages. We need more schools with smaller populations so that teachers, students and parents can form a real learning community.

i want an expressway that spans from Manila to Bicol, hanggang sa dulo nang Matnog, Sorsogon. Ang expressway na nasa utak ko eh walang traysikel o kalabaw sa gitna nang kalye.
napakagandang mga programa para a edukayon. Tama yan Noynoy, you start investing in the person himself through good education, nang sa gayon, tayo ay magkaroon ng mga mabuting mamayan in the furure, and we could compete globally, and we could attract employers if we have good citizens backed up by good education. Mabuhay ka!
what i mean is we need aklat at classrums. other candidates are promising e-books while we even don have decent shelter for the children to use in school =p
double thumbs-up for quality pre-school education
hindi po siguro lahat papabor sa 12 years educational cycle kasi alam naman natin na malikrmo ang mga pinoy hindi nila gugostuhin na humaba pa ang panahon ng pag-aaral.
pero for me maganda po ito cause it widens the experience, training,and the knowledge of every students so that they can be more effective workers in the future….
It’s NOT the length of time spent studying, it’s the QUALITY of education that matters.
Children can study for 12 years if they want, but if it’s the same low quality education they offer in public schools today, then the extra 2 years is WASTED time and money.
For me, children can learn even in 8 years what other kids learn in 12 years in other countries with REAL QUALITY education with teachers adept in their profession and properly equipped schools/learning institutions.
IT’S QUALITY NOT QUANTITY.
i think it is better if the government will give subsidy to vocational schools for the purposes of strengthening their instructions in the development of skills they are offering after all one of the purposes of K+12 is to develop the skills of the students in the 11th and 12th grades. i doubt if we could provide skilled teachers to be hired in the SY 2016-2017 for this matter. We find skilled vocational teachers in the vocational schools it is just a matter of financial support so they could be more motivated to give what is due to the learners. my idea only.
mabuhay ka noynoy. saludo ako sa mga educational programs mo. pero sana isama mo na rin kaming mga ofw na dating teachers sa mga programa mo. halimbawa kung gusto naming bumalik sa Pinas at magturo ulit, bka pwede bigyan kmi ng special appointments sa deped at ibalik na rin yung dati naming posisyon. syempre mas may experience na kami ngayon di ba?
Can we pattern our curriculum sa Singapore? Kasi by their secondary education nalalaman na agad kung saan ang kakayanan ng mga bata… Sana ung National Exam to qualify for secondary educ and college magkaron ng katuturan, tayo meron nun kaso hindi required sa pagpasok… anong purpose pala nun kung ganun… Kahit alang masyadong alam pwede grumaduate ng high school or college…
