Is this real?! Ondoy victims for politicking and photo opportunities?! It seemed to me that the Philippine National Red Cross has some protocol explaining to do if indeed this is what happened. And this is serious. And I am not liking what I am reading.
Now, considering that Barrio Siete’s Bayanihan Fund Drive has now reached a milestone with donations now standing at Php104,763 and growing; and that we have already sent our 1st remittance to the Philippine National Red Cross in Manila (although we are still waiting for confirmation both from Philippine National Bank and the Philippine National Red Cross in Manila) there is a brewing controversy with the alleged politicking of the donations routed through the Philippine National Red Cross. The very, very hot entry on the Facebook was posted by Martin Cervantes who gave me the permission to repost his entry. Here is the entry:

Now that’s just one story of some alleged politicking. Here’s another story, if true, is really infuriating…
Mula sa loob ng subdivision, may papalabas na dalawang military trucks na puno daw ng tao.
Isa sa mga unang bumaba si Senador… video rolling… flash… flash… flash…
Buong akala namen na sobrang dami ng tao sa loob ng truck kasi malaking truck eto.
Pero mangilan-ngilan lang ang bumaba nito na biktima ng bagyong Ondoy.
Ang aking nakita lang ay ang isang lola at ina na may kargang baby na mga nasa isa or dalawang buwan pa lamang, na pinasok sa ambulansya para sa unang panlunas.
Pero pagkatapos ng mga ilang sandali bumaba din sila.
“Mag-ingat po kayo.” ani ni Senador sabay tapik sa likod ng ina na may baby. flash… flash… flash…

oppppsss…..Reynz, pwede mo pa bang baguhin? ibigay mo na lang sa ibang charity na karapat dapat…yung hindi sasamahan ng politics ang pag kawanggawa. hope hindi nasayang ang pinag hirapang ng Bayanihan for Ondoy.

Movie stars “dressed to the nines” and politicians, distributing relief goods to victims of tropical storm “Ondoy” in front of cameras, were branded as opportunists by a senator.
“That’s a sure opportunism,” Senator Miriam Defensor- Santiago told reporters on Thursday.
“You know, if you are a devastated typhoon victim, with your life and properties in ruin, you don’t want to face TV cameras. And for example, movie stars dressed to the nines with heavy TV make up on giving you one kilogram (of rice),” she said.

Hi, I read from [deleted] site that Gordon already issued an statement regarding what happened. He said that this was the organizer’s wish na pumunta sya sa lugar. I sympathize with what happen to the volunteer but we also have to be responsible to know what really happened and to be fair to anyone involved. In fairness to Gordon, it was not mentioned that he actually ordered to stop the relief operation in the place. It was the organizer’s call.
I think in order to make better conclusion out of this, we also have to know and get stories from long-time Red Cross volunteers because they know better their organization’s protocol. There have been many calamities the Philippines have suffered in the past, yet this is the only time we heard such a case. I admit I like the senator. I believe he is a good man and a good leader. He serves the PNRC well and for the long time he is the chairman, if he is doing these kinds of things, it will be known early on somehow.
PNRC is still one of the most trustworthy organization in the land. Let’s not get emotional over what happened, let’s get logical. Let’s hear two sides of the stories. If he is at fault, then we make proper actions, if not, let’s continue to support the organization.

Isa sa sobra sa nagpapainit ng dugo ko ay si estrada. Yesterday, almost a week after the disaster, he came out on TV. He was somewhere in barrio silangan, qc, squatters area. And what came out from his mouth was, “Nananawagan po ako sa mga Pinoy nakakaangat sa pamumuhay na magbigay ng tulong sa mga nasalanta.”
Damn it, too late the trapo! DI NA NYA KAILANGAN PA NG GANITONG USELESS NA PANAWAGAN AT THIS TIME (almost after a week) kasi kahit wala sya, bumubuhos na ang tulong galing sa lahat ng sector ng mamayang pinoy, mayaman man o mahirap.
IMBES NA MAGBUHAT SYA NG RELEIF GOODS, PAPOGI PA SYA, sakay sa kalamidad at puro lang NGAK NGAK!
Ay naku, yan ang mga bulok na trapo. yan ang sinasabing, ERAP PARA SA MAHIRAP (UMINTINDI!!!).

Ok lang po na mapunta sa Philippine National Red Cross ang donation pero sana walang politikong magpapa-photo opportunity dahil gusto siyang maalala sa 2010 elections.
Yung mga PNRC personnel na lang po sana ang mag-abot ng tulong sa mga nangangailangan.
