Philippines: 105th in best places to live!
Don’t get me wrong, 105th man sya, uuwi at uuwi pa rin ako sa Manila. That’s the only place I call home. Well, oo. Pati Philadelphia. If you review and memorize the SONA, para tayong isla bonita, economically progressive barrio, happy buong la familia.
Everytime naman kasi na magta-talak ang mga manager’s nang ating gobyerness, that we have achieved way beyond on this, unemployment is down – tigok na kasi mga nag-hahanap nang trabaho; inflation is under control, GDP is up to the roof, bawas na ang mga mahihirap and more fantasy ever.
Until lumabas ang latest report nang United Nations that showed the Philippines ranking 105th out of the 182 countries included in the 2009 Human Development Report.
Malaysia, China and Thailand are way up there. In fact, Malaysia is very well entrenched as one of the most livable places in Southeast Asia ranked 66th. Thailand is 82nd and China is 92.
Eh leche naman ano?! Talo pa tayo nang Gabon! Asan ba ang Gabon?!
Kung balak nang gobyerness na mag-improve ang buhay naten and make the Philippines go up in ranking, there are just mounds of shit that they have to do. Pero me mga intention ba talaga silang…
Tapusin na once and for all ang corruption na instead mapunta sa social services and infrastructures for the people eh napunta sa bulsa nang mga buwaya?!
I doubt.

What? 105th? After Algeria? Oh c’mon.
hahaha! i’ve never been to Algeria hehehe
Reynz,
I (we) lived in Malaysia when Darling was posted there, and it’s true, Malaysia is very nice place to live in if you like peace and quiet. The children loved it.
Sadly, my children prefer KL (among other cities) to Manila (or Metro Manila) whenever we holiday in Asia because KL is more orderly, less dirty than Manila, not as chaotic. They can walk around KL (literally visit KL on foot even at night) without worrying that they will be run over by crazy bus drivers or be troubled by unwelcome solicitations.
True, Manila can offer them lots of nice high-flying, exclusive to the non-hoi poloi places in Manila, eg., Polo Club, Wack-Wack, etc., but they get bored of those places. They’d rather just be able to walk around the city/cities without major problems, ride public transport, the bus, the jeepney, the train, eat in local stalls, etc. but not always easy to do tht in Manila yet so easy in KL (something they did on their own 2 years ago when they were only 16 and 14 respectively.)
I feel sad for the Philippines.
“Sadly, my children prefer KL (among other cities) to Manila (or Metro Manila) whenever we holiday in Asia”
Reynz,
Totally and without reserve, agree with you here: Gawing matino ang urban planning, i-respeto ang environment at linisin ang mga squatters at estero?!
Manila, Metropolitan Manila that is, to most visitors, looks chaotic.
I’m in the UK now, but formally still a resident of Norway, which is number one on the list. It’s a beautiful country and very progressive, too. Plus it’s got a rich supply of oil. The cost of living is ridiculously expensive, especially in the capital, Oslo. Definitely more expensive than London or Tokyo based on my experience.
Anyway, point no. 1 is that the HDI is flawed in many ways. The UN commissioned the Nobel prize winning economist Amartya Sen to develop it, but it didn’t turn out to be a reliable measure of well-being.
Point no. 2 is even if the HDI is flawed, nakakalungkot pa rin na hindi umaangat ang Pilipinas.
Point no. 3 – despite point no. 2, Philippines is still home. At hindi ko sya ipagpapalit sa Norway.
vraiment lalaine! kahit ako, di ko pa rin ipagpapalit ang barrio ko. nakakalungkot lang kasi yon bang we could be the best, but we could not seem to make it…
Home.
I wish,
I feel the same…but…since my understanding of…
Then, this is the place in the list.
13 ▲ (2) United States 0.956 ▲ 0.001
where i call home…
Not bad. At least hindi last. Hahaha!
Nakakahiya! Talo pa tayo ng Gabon. Goshness!
mel,
eto GABON: (OOOPS! MALI! HAHAHA) eto: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabon
talong talo nga tayo. per capita nila is $14,000 samantalang ang Pinas is listed as $1,845 di pa umabot nang $2,000 hehehe
I don’t care too if the Philippines is rated as the 300th best place to live with.
correction, i mean…
“I don’t care too if the Philippines will be rated pa as the 300th best place to live in…”
mam snow,
