Philippines: 5th ‘shabu giant’
Today, a United Nations (UN) agency has just ranked the Philippines as No. 5 in the world’s roster of “shabu giants”.
The report also revealed that illegal drug manufacturing occurs mostly in industrial-sized laboratories operated by transnational criminal organizations, including foreign chemists. Source: RP is 5th ‘shabu giant’

Shabu might be different from heroin and cocaine but to me, they’re all the same. That’s why that UN report about RP’s being the 5th shabu giant reminded me of Colombia. One beautiful country with absolutely lots of beautiful people.
I went to Bogota, Colombia in the early 90′s to visit my Colombian boyfriend I met at the University of Pennsylvania. It was a long story. He did not qualify to take the US Medical Board even if he was a licensed Colombian medical doctor. He decided to go home. I stayed there for about 15 days. No, I did not visit Pablo Escobar. Do you know him? He was the dreaded Colombian drug lord in the 90′s. That’s why my boss and my officemates were shocked when I told them that I was actually going to Bogota instead of Manila. Shocked? Yes, Colombia was deeply and heavily at war then, on drugs. Pablo Escobar was the most wanted man.
Mexico is at also war. War on drugs. As of today, there were 9,728 drug-war related deaths since January 2007. Sum it up! The paper said that it’s more than the US fatalities in the Iraq war! It was Mexican President Felipe Calderon who declared war on drugs and so far:
“He has deployed 45,000 troops and 5,000 federal police to 18 Mexican states where trafficking groups are fighting local authorities and battling for the prized US market. Source: Mexico under siege”
Are we next?!

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said that due to efficient law enforcement, the Arroyo administration has uncovered the highest number of illegal drug laboratories and shipments in the country. Secretary Remonde was reacting to a UN report ranking the Philippines as the fifth top “shabu giant” in the world.
Natatawa ba kayo?
dun nga napataas ang kilay ko fatherly dahil tipo bang – was he trying to tell us that its some sort of an achievement?!
Malacañang are so upset about the ranking they try so hard tapos magna-number 5 lang. Hindi man lang marunong humanap ng reference ang UN, haler last year number 1 kami sa most corrupt country.
i wonder if A – - – u, Cavite is still a shabu town?
in the mid 90′s i have this classmate na bs chem, she was offered 50 thousand pesos a month para magtimpla ng shabu.
di sya pumayag. natakot sya eh.
then since then, we made this plan that we well put up a shabu lab, then bagsak presyo ang benta para malugi ang shabu giants.
hehehe.
well hanggang ngayon di pa rin namin nagagawa, di rin kasi kaya ng kunsensya namin.
hahahha!!!
which can be done di ba? eh mga bahay ba naman sa Manila na mistulang great wall of china ang mga bakod so who knows kung me mga laboratoryo nga ang mga yan!
i used to work in a company (long back in manila) na front lang pala ang business nila, mainly drugs pala ang kanilang business and with a long payrol list ng mga malalakas na tao kaya till now operating parin sila (i only worked with the company for less than a year, the shortest ever company na napasukan ko dahil masyadong mainit ang paligid).
(to submit or not not submit…..)
hahaha, hanggang dito nga, me mga arabo ba naman na nagtatanong kung meron akong shabu? (mukha kasing adik), meaning me mga pinoy na nagbebenta ng shabu dito???
(yey, nagpagupit na ako)
well, we don’t have a One Stop Shop shabu market at the back of the Pasig City Hall for nothing.
