Presenting my Barrio Siete, take 2

11 March 2010 7 Comments

This is a repost (originally posted here). Why? Because there is something magical with this entry and I love it because of it’s swak factor to the current political times. It has what I call the “konek” factor.

I am reposting this entry by Malen, one of our B7 writer, because these are the places in the Philippines forgotten by these politicians. Just in time to ting-a-ling some of these candidates that our barrios truly need some ‘about time’ attention. Who truly cares for our folks in the barrio? Alam nyo ba kung anong klaseng purgatoryo ang buhay namen in the barrio?! Ever experienced how it is to traverse One Talahib Highway na ang kalahati is aspaltong panahon nang hapon ang the other half is earth and when it rains your in the moon?!

Long and forgotten, kaming mga tiga-Barrio are the forgotten people. It’s as if, all these Barrio Sietes in our islands are just nothing but milked cows. Yet, these places explodes with so much natural beauty, natural resources, they ignore its potentials which, if they develop, with respect to the environment – it will create enormous local economic activity to help our barrio folks. Yeah, I do sound like one Nick Perlas supporter, don’t I?

So, crowded much in Manila?!

Presenting my Barrio Siete

By: Malen Ada

Please come in and please sit down.

As an initial contribution, let me bring you to my beautiful Barrio Siete – the land of the typhoons and the home of the brave lol. Enjoy!

My barrio is in a far, far away island in the Eastern Visayas region.

TO go there, you need to ride all types of public transpo available – from bus to bapor to banca to jeep to tricycle. The long journey to my barrio siete will end with this habal-habal ride…

…traversing the long and winding Talahib Hi-way

Dito sa barrio, there’s plenty of bahay kubo (read: Poverty)

Pero laging may habag ang Diyos

..ang biyaya nya ay hinde nagwawakas. Naks.

and plenty of seafoods

and overflowing with the bounty of harvest time.

…wala namang tinatanaw lol

panigingisda…

at sabong haha

THE BARRIOTIC LIFESTYLE

eto ang usual gimikan

eto naman ang palaruan…

at ang water system.

at ang typical na cocina.

LEISURE AND ACTIVITIES

mag beach bumming

mag-picnic

mag-stroll sa baybay

at matulog sa ilalim ng puno

ANG PATRON

Patron (fiesta) is the most celebrated event each year.

Young and old gather together in the plaza for the SARAYAW.

sarayaw san kadam-an (cha-cha to the tune of GIKIMUT-KIMOT)

and watch the annual ms. barangay beauty pagent

Life in the barrio is soo hirap pero masaya lagi ang mga tao dito.

Today, my barrio is home to the most corrupt government officials in the country. Each year, there are millions of pesos allocated for projects like road widening and repairs that goes to the pockets of mga walanghiyang local officials!!! Pastilan jud! We’re rich in natural resources, we have unexplored caves, white beaches, subterranean rivers, rock formations, waterfalls and diving sites. Hellooo DOT where are you?

I have high dreams for my barrio (and for every barrio in the Philippines too) – maayos na school facilities, health care for everyone, stable supply ng electricity, access to clean water, computers and access to internet at por Diyos por Santo!!! Isang maayos na hi-way.

I hope you enjoy our quick trip to my hometown, I shall visit the place next summer, kung gusto nyo sumama, let me know, KKB tayo.
