President Barack Obama in Ghana: A snub to Kenya?
(Photo Credits: MSNBC) President Barack Obama is Kenya’s most famous son. This was his father’s birthplace. This is where his relatives live. This is Kenya. His other country and according to how the media puts it, he “snubbed” Kenya for not being the first country that he visited in the Sub-Saharan Africa. Instead, Obama went to Ghana.
So I got curious. Nah! I did not have any Oprah Winfrey moments with Obama. I would love to. I have so many question too, you know. So, I checked a little bit about Kenya and I found out that there seemed to be a little bit of dysfunctionality with their ministers too! They’re corrupt! (Ugh! Filipino trapo relatives?) and notoriously quarrelsome (Ugh! Like punching Taiwanese legislators?)
For Kenya, when you have your special son, as president of the most powerful country in the world, it would seem like there’s gonna be some magic along the road – preferential trade and investment deals, Wall Street investment pouring in the streets of Kenya, tourists flocking in and many, many more that would be expected from such magnanimous goodwill that your special son is the President of the United States. But they’re not happy with Obama in Ghana.
Meanwhile, let’s take a peek inside the parliament.

Actually i just finished watching the speech of Pres. Obama live on TV in Ghana.. African people are really proud of him,specially here in Angola, in fact while i’m on my way home from my office a few hours ago, i saw a big banner. “OBAMA HERO OF AFRICA”. but regarding this “kenya” issue i have no comment, no idea at all.
about this people who is sleeping while pres. Obama delivering his speech, i don’t think they deserve respect from their countrymen,if ever those photos will be exposed and African people will recognized them if who they are, people will criticized them. i know the mind-set of African people. spcly these Guys might be a government officials.

Before his visit I made a comment that if Obama mention anything about darfur and the plight of thousands of refugees, and the starvation that is going on, and a solution for their suffering I would have been very proud of him. Well I got disappointed. That man is not an African-American as he claim to be, nor shall he ever be. I got more African in me, and I have a lighter tan than him. He has used the race card in his campaign, now he is using it in Ghana.
I think what he said was that he preferred to go to Ghana in terms of democractic gains the country has been pursuing. i don’t know how much he can use Ghana for other than really encouraging the country more towards a genuine democracy. That’s what America has been standing for – no arguments. Now, as to whether or not it’s good for the country, only Ghanians would know.
In terms of Obama using the race card during the last elections? I doubt it. You have to understand the so many whites who voted for Obama. The issue in that election was not about race, rather a number of convoluted issues that really gave a very bad rap and perceptions to American abroad and much of the Arab world given the confrontational policies of George Bush plus the worst handling of our economy. You might not agree with me, but Americans at that time were clamoring for change – not on race.
CNN’s Erica Hill reported earlier today that this was Obama’s first trip to Africa as President. I guess there are still people who do not regard Egypt as a part of the African continent. I would like to state this because of the reasons stated in the book, “Stolen Legacy”.
Was it just a mistake? I thought the media kept referring to it as Sub-Saharan Desert? If Erica continues to say that, then she should check her geography.

What he said in his speech is very very applicable to the Philippines and I quote him (change the reference to Ghana and make it Philippines):

Balik sa istorya nga Ghana at Kenya. Mas accessible kasi ang Ghana mula sa Europe kasi western Africa iyan eh kaya madaling puntahan on his way back to US. Kung sa Kenya, talagang sasadyain niya kasi East Africa ang Kenya. Saka mas safe naman ang Ghana puntahan, hindi land locked, not to mention the historical significance ng Ghana sa mga African Americans. Andiyan ang pinaka malaking slave center where the captured African were shipped to america and traded as slaves. My two cents.

What’s your beef, man, he’s an american and he holds the highest office in this land. He’s not perfect but he certainly knows what he’s talking about – unlike the grumpy old man and the ageing beauty pageant runner up!

Egypt is mainly Northern Africa but it has that part (Sinai peninsula)that extends to western Asia or Middle East, particularly Israel and Gaza strip. If we have to be very technical about it, all of Egypt is not part of the African continent, right? But I agree that Erica Hill didn’t get it all right although she wasn’t totally wrong either. She should have been more specific – it was his first trip to WESTern part of Africa.

You people who hang on everything Obama does need to find pride in your own lives. The news shows you everything he is doing. It is a mockery. We want equality in the world yet the white media follows him everywhere and tells everything he does and people cheer. He is a politician and a lawyer before president he became. that should say something to you but it doesnt because you put more hope into him than you do yourself. go out and make your own hope and change. he will not when it is all over. he is politician!
