Put Your Own Caption: War on Terror

6 December 2009 No Comment

Here we go again.

On September 11, 2001, in the comfort of my home in Iowa, I remember watching the graphic images in New York in horror and disbelief.  As it became clearer that foreign nationals were responsible, I felt the imminent threat closer to home.  It was not the fear of terrorists possibly coming to the heartland of America, but the idea of the U.S. government tearing my family apart.  I knew then that we would be going to war and my wife, a soldier, would have to go, too.

I remember arguing that targeting certain individuals who were directly responsible would only be a temporary patch job.  That this was not because of a few isolated groups of fanatics, but rather have became an ideal or culture.  But bombing a whole country would not be the answer but rather cause more problems.  This violence against the West is ultimately brought by the struggles of the poor, the uneducated, the isolated, a long history of Imperialism, and by what appears to be a one-sided support of Israel.  I realized that war was a requisite, but I had hoped that we would do more to reach out.  Then on October of 2001, President Bush declared the “War on Terror.”   He later labeled Iraq, Iran, and North Korea as the new Axis of Evil and proclaimed that “either you are with us or you are with the terrorists,” making Americans even more hated around the world.

And so eight years later, almost a trillion dollars spent, hundreds of thousands killed or  injured ,  many more families broken, and a new president, the war continues.  And now, President Obama calls for 30,000 more soldiers to deploy to Afghanistan in hopes to finally finish the job.

I just hope that, by now, they know what they are doing.  The soldiers and their families deserve a better plan.

is Jesse. He was born and raised by two solid parents in Tondo, Manila. He came to Iowa when he was 17 and is now raising a family in Washington, where a group of Filipinos adopted them as their own. Mr. Nonsense can often be seen in the Tacoma-Seattle area carrying a camcorder, accompanied by his two sons and his personal chauffeur, his wife. He uses his Tondo upbringing to nurture his children and to survive in a mental institution, where he currently works. He enjoys basketball, cooking, singing, cartooning, producing short movies, and making his own furniture out of junked wood because he's so cheap. He is a self-proclaimed "Man of the House,"...when his wife is not home.
