Shut Up Willie!!
On Saturday (August 1, 2009)…it was almost time for wowowee when i saw commercials saying ‘Thank You President Cory”. That’s only when I found out that Cory was dead. I thought, wow! Willie was truly sensitive to have a 2-minute-silence for Cory. He was even wearing yellow polo shirt.
Well I’m not really a fan of Willie and of his show Wowowee. For one, he plays on people’s emotions and poor-ness. The more you are shameless enough to tell on national TV, the sorry and painful story your life is… the more more you get from Willie. And then the more you tell him that he is good-looking and nice-smelling… the more money a show contestant gets from him.
My mother is a big fan though. She laughs and cries with the contestants. She loves Willie a lot because to her Willie is generous and fun , thoughtful and sensitive of others. He may be all those, okay? But I just get turned off when he humiliates people on his show by way of jokes. Hindi nakakatuwa, di ba?
According to Fullman, Willy should apologize about what he recently said on his show Wowowee about Cory’s death and funeral:
Nagpapakasaya? You feel irritated because the live stream showing Cory Aquino’s wake is spoiling the fun. How can you provide entertainment to the public when death is being rammed down on everyone’s throat? Lunch time is for cheap entertainment – rice tastes better with Wowowee.
I will not even try to compare you with Cory Aquino, whose death – and its commemoration – you find ill-timed and inconvenient. Doing so would insult Cory. You callousness deserves a more apt comparison. The first is to a French Queen who, when when told that the people had no bread, responded, “let them eat cake”. Incidentally, her head was chopped off when the revolution won.

Some of us weren’t old enough to see her greatness, and weren’t lucky enough to witness the whole country celebrate her triumph, as we’re out of the country. It is likened to giving alms to people, only in a glam, less obvious way. Don’t tell me people go there to have fun, Willie.

For me that was really foul. It was foul for Wowowee and ABS-CBN to resume to their normal programming despite Cory’s demise. If you guys remember…ang companya ng mga Lopezes -kasama ang ABS-CBN – ay kinamkam ng dating diktador Ferdinand E. Marcos. If not for Cory and her regime? The Lopezes wouldn’t even have their riches today and ABS-CBN will not be a giant network today.
Ano ba naman yung kalimuntan muna nila ang kanilang regular programming at i-feature na lang ang kaganapan sa burol hanggang libing ni President Cory. Ayaw ba nilang mawalan ng profit? Eh ano ngayon kung walang profit?! Wala sana kayong negosyo in the first place kung hindi naging President si Cory Aquino. Mga walang utang na loob ano?! Nakak turn-off.
Lalong nakaka-turn-off naman ang ginawa at sinabi ni Willie sa kanyang noon-time show na wowowee!!! Kung talagang mahal nya si Cory tulad ng lagi nyang sinasabi…eh di sana pinagbigyan muna nya si Cory at hindi na nag-show ang Wowowee habang di pa naililibing si Cory! Siguro mas lalong mamahalin si Willie ng mga fans nga kung ganyan ang kaniyang ginawa.
Sa halip ay iba ang ginawa nya. Pinaalis nya ang live stream video ni Cory dahil ang dating sa kanya eh istorbo at di sya makapag-pasaya habang nakikita nya ang nasabing video. Mas lalong sumama ang dating di ba?!

Revillame is still on “indefinite” leave from the daily show even if Kris Aquino, in an interview on Monday on the late-night show biz program “SNN,” said her family has accepted Revillame’s apology.
Many viewers are apparently not as forgiving. At press time, 48,165 have signed an online petition seeking to ban Revillame from show biz. Revillame said he may just leave the show. “Even if I have the support of the network and the advertisers, kung ayaw na ng tao sa akin, what’s the use?” SOURCE.

Noong isang araw ko pa ito napanood sa Fezbuks, noong una talagang nakakagalit dahil para namang napaka-selfish naman ng reaction ni Mang Willie sa live streaming.
Sana na lang ay iniba niya ang wording gaya nito: pinakita ho sa traffic screen ang burol at prosesyon ni Tita Cory, kung magsasaya po tayo wag po nating kalimutan na may mahalaga pa sa show na ito kundi ang Nanay ng ating Kalayaan.
O kaya naman, pwede na lang kapag commercial sabihan yung mga producers nila para di na broadcasted.
Naiintindihan ko si Mang Willie, nahihirapan raw ang kalooban niya. Pero nangingibabaw pa rin yung “Ako ang Bida dito”.
Opinion lang po, para namang nakakaalibadbad yang ginawa niya. In bad taste talaga. Sana naman ma realize niya ang mistake na ito dahil katapat niya ang nakakaraming Pinoy na naroon sa prusisyon.

It is utter disrespect when a significant history is taking place and a gameshow being played at the same time, at the same frame.
Willie’s reaction was pure arrogance. Tama si Mahalia about “Ako ang bida dito” statement.
At buong tapang pa ni Willie na ipakita ang kanyang reaction in national television on how he felt bad and all. He could have called a commercial break and express it off air. But you know, Willie is a publicity whore and a political animal – by doing such, he thinks his move was more of salvaging himself, gaining public sympathy and of course a situation for blackmailing his employer. Kasi nga naman pwede nyang isumbat sa kanyang amo na bakit nangyari yun at sa show pa nya?
So employer (ABS-CBN) will respond: “Willie, pasensya na – tanga yung direktor sa traffic control. Nobody wants Cory’s wake co-aired in your gameshow.”
Willie: “Pambihira, bakit pa sa Wowowee ginawa yun alam mo namang maraming viewers. Ang show format is about kasayahan at eto kayo gagawa ng alangan. Ano kaya kung umalis ako dito, napapahiya ako sa ginawa n’yo.”
ABS-CBN: “Ok, fine… We will be willing to “make good” of this incident. Willie, bibigyan ka namin ng airtime sa TV patrol na ayusin ang story na ito. You have the freedom to tell what you felt on that very moment and we (Willy and ABS) will issue a formal apology about this goof up. In that case, we already exhausted all the unfavourable reactions. Ok ba ito?”
Willie: “Well, bossing everything has a price. My participation on this would cost me 20 million pesos or else Wowowee can just go elsewhere. Tutal may participation ako sa revenue stream ng Wowowee, gusto ko ng additional control. Kung hindi kayo papayag, I could take this to another TV network…”
ABS-CBN: “Okay, please lang walang ganito, bababa ang rating ng timeslot at mababawasan ang advertisers ang istasyon. How about 45% ng gross revenue ng show in that two hour slot sa’yo na? Maliwanag na may 3.5 million pesos ka pa sa deal na ito, every episode.”
Willie: “Pwede!”

Sir Blue, totally agree ako sa sinabi mo. Yung 3 elder sisters ni kris, super admired ko, pati mga anak nila. Makita mo pa lang mukha nila, kita agad and good breeding nila at pagiging wealthy kahit pa magpaka simple pa sila, hindi maitatago.

I mourn Cory’s death as much as everyone else here as she was a big part of my adolescent years (I was a card-carrying member of her campaign and all that).
But I just wanted to remind everyone that anyone can wear the proverbial T-shirt. It depends on one’s personal definition of what it means to honour someone who laid the groundwork for our success as a people but did not necessarily serve us our prosperity on a silver platter.
Is wearing a Cory t-shirt enough? Or is actually delivering results ON TOP OF the groundwork laid that is the real objective nowadays?

Also wanted to add, R.E., that the best way to move forward and escape this prison-like cycle of subjecting ourselves to bozo politicians is to put PRESSURE on our politicians to present their platforms or visions for Pinoy society (instead of merely dishing out slogans and tired platitudes) in a coherent, internally-consistent structure.
For example, I put up a matrix that summarises known positions of various presidential candidates for 2010 (you can check it out here).
Even without reading the detail in that table you will see the utter sparseness of what these candidates actually propose that is of any real substance or even at least remotely resembles a vision for our society.
It is the ONLY WAY to improve the quality of the way we evaluate politicians — to ROUTINELY demand that they present their platform and vision.
As Eleanor Roosevelt was said to have said:

Mediocre minds discuss events.
Small minds discuss people.

There’s nothing offensive on what Willie said, in fact, he was right. It’s very inappropriate to see Wowowee people dancing to the tune of Wonder Girls’ Nobody while they are showing live footage of a solemn event.
Willie gave them options, cut them off the air and continue the coverage of Pres. Cory or let Wowowee proceed without the live footage. Guess you have to blame ABS-CBN Traffic or the show’s director and not Willie.
