So gusto mong bumili nang franchise? Makinig ka sa sasabihin ko.

28 May 2009 24 Comments

Patuloy po ang ating libreng Barrio Siete Seminar on “Lecture on 5/6″ or entrepreneurship and starting a business. Hehehe! Haller! Not yet.

Pero tandaan mo, at dagdagan mo yang batong uukitin mo, dahil you still need hard work, dedication at sakripisyo para maging successful ang negosyo mo. Opo, kasali pati na franchising.

Ano ba ang Franchising?

Sandali lang ha? Hirap tagalugin to. I’m American kasi. And we speek English in Barrio Siete! Hehehe! “A franchise is a legal and commercial relationship between the owner of a trademark, service mark, trade name, or advertising symbol and an individual or group wishing to use that identification in a business. The franchise governs the method of conducting business between the two parties. Generally, a franchisee sells goods or services supplied by the franchisor or that meet the franchisor’s quality standards.” Eto, tagalugin ko. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! Lecheng English oo! A ewan. Basta. Yong Jolibee, nag-pa-franchise. McDo, ganun din. Starbucks, yeap. Getz?

Sa franchising, kelangan me tiwala ang bawat one another, the franchisor and franchisee.

When you franchise, you pay a franchise fee at the beginning.

Bakeet?! Eh kasi pangalan la’ang ang binibili mo noh! Look at it as just a right for you to use their name. Ngayon, you have to sign a franchise agreement. Ano to? This is the paper that tells you na wala kang control sa business mo other than kumita. Period! Ansaket noh? The rest – it will probably say there na:

Cannibalize and tawag dun. Apektado sales mo. Ganyan ang drama nang Starbucks sa States. An daming galit na mga franchise owners.
  • Magbabayad ka nang royalties every month. Based eto sa Gross Sales mo. Anong ibig sabihin nito?
Karamihahn 3 years – renewable. Problema dito kung pumalpak. How do you get out? Meron dyan na hindi kumita in one year and they want to get out of the franchise agreement.
  • Marketing and advertising – wa ka say dito.
  • Even the way you display their goods – sila pa rin ang magdedecide. Let’s say that you found out that a certain item is mabili at gusto mong bigyan nang lugar sa harap. Pag sinabi nilang dapat sa likod yan, sa likod yan!

Pag nakipag-deal ka, lahat eto, isulat mo at itanong mo. Make sure na you are protected at ilagay sa contrata para sure. Sekreto to.

essentially ganun, in other words, lahat nang due them, kelangan bayaran mo muna before mo nam-namin kung me natitira seyo. in snother other words, safe muna sila bago ikaw.

por ejemplo, typically, yong franchise fee is above the line na tinatawag, ibig sabihin, kiver kung lugi ka, bayad ka pa rin or me utang kang franchise fee sa kanila. kaya mainam kung pati tong above the line na tinatawag eh mainegotiate, although generally, di papayag ang mga yan, eh kasi sila ang bida.

    • Chi says:

      hehehe. yun nga!

  • Mel says:

tama ka ate reynz, depende yan sa terms ng ifa-franchise mo. pag-isipan ng 48million times. i-scrutinize ang kontrata. pumili ng tamang produkto. kahit ang mga sikat na franchises is not an assurance na magiging Jai Ho ito.

  • Dinah says:

example a ministop or 7/11, why do you need to franchise pa e d magtayo ka na lang ng sarili mong convenience store? may freedom ka pa. so anu ba talaga ang reason bkit mag franchise ka pa?

    • reynz says:

essentially kase, the whole idea is already done. di ka na magpo-promote dahil meron na sila. di ka na magsisimulang mag-start at palakihin dahil established na sila. and then it’s under the premise na dahil nga established na sila, sikat, at malaki, the profits will come. kaso minsan hindi eh.

  • GabbyD says:

question, say you don’t follow one of their stipulated rules on service delivery, quality, etc…

what will happen? what are the legal remedies for either party?

    • reynz says:

it really depends on what’s written on the franchise agreement, typically naman all the remedies are written so both parties would know exactly how to cure them.

now i guess there is no such thing as “standard franchise agreement” kaya one remedy on one (mcdo) would not be the same as say (711)

      • Snow says:

yep, what applicable to juan is not applicable to pedro.

      • reynz says:

ibang strategy kasi ang ginawa nang mcdo in franchising kasi ang goal nila at that time was billion burgers so the adopted yong “global but local” sumtin sumtin, kaya yong offers nang mcdo in pinas is different sa let’s say, india, or israel or hongkong. that’s what set them apart at yun ang nag drive nang biz nila to be on top

      • GabbyD says:

        ok

but what are the typical clauses/rememdies tho. like whats the worst thing that can happen to the franchisee, to your knowledge?

  • dencios says:

nakakatawa, sabi ng nanay ko bakit may D.I daw haha. sabi ko patawa lang yun. ayun. pinabasa ko sa kanya to. :D

    salamat sa post na ito

  • BURAOT says:

    • reynz says:

      @buraot,

      • Rosa says:

I am also waiting for this info since I have been trying to contact jollibee and figaro but I have not gotten a response yet.

    • bebe says:

kung may 25million pesoses(that was ages ago, ganun pa rin kaya ngayon?) ka, pwede ka mag franchise ng jollibee.

  • Chi says:

Anyway, I am currently in Guam on an L1 visa (read: corporate slave). Guam market is not saturated yet. There are a lot of opportunities especially that we are anticipating the transfer of the 8,000 marines from Okinawa by 2011 + their dependents + contractors + Filipino/Chinese workers that will be coming here for the construction projects by 2010 para sa mga base militar dito (read: andito partly napupunta ang pera/utang ng America). For the people in the US Mainland that are thinking of putting up a business, Guam is the right market. Because of the military build up, I am thinking of getting a franchise in the Philippines of a fresh fruit shake/juice company. No definite plans yet, coz there are restrictions with my working visa. I am looking for someone in Guam who might want to partner with me. Its nothing grand, its just a dream. baka lang may lurkers un barrio siete na andito din sa maliit na isla.. =)
