Suicides at France Telecom

25 November 2009 20 Comments

France Telecom is undergoing a major restructuring in which the goal is to cut billions of dollars in expenses. The process has led to an epidemic of suicide in France. Most of the employees cannot cope up with the seemingly impossible demands of the superiors and constant moral degradation happening in the office which brings intolerable conditions for work. One employee who was told to be transferred again for the NTH time in another department had loosen her screws that she jumped from the building’s 5th story window instantly killing herself in the process. Some companies are undermining the capacities of their employees… to some this is a management strategy, but to others, this is the easiest way to get a suicide. To date there are already 24 successful suicides in French Telecom Co. Alone. Sometimes our boss pushes us to the limit but what happens if you are pushed against a wall, will you do the same? I hope not…

    “if pushed to the limit?”

    Interesting…

At my end, there is still more to life… there is more to live by… so help them God!

I agree. There is still the option to resign instead of killing your own life. But we can’t blame this people. But then again it’s not worth killing yourself just because you were morally degraded by your boss or your company…

Real sad. But why must career be the final arbiter?

  • Dinah says:

Well, there is life outside of work so killing myself over a job will never be an option. If the degradation is too much, resign and magtinda ka na lang ng banana cue. So far, I have never heard of a pinoy na nagpakamatay over a job. wala ba silang ibang options abroad?

    • bluepanjeet says:

@Dinah – hahaha samahan mo ng sagimis.

Foreigners are susceptible to depression. They have low tolerance for hardship and pain.

    Sad…

But letting your career describe your life is more lonelier. Good thing Filipinos are more resilient.

  • Monique says:

Agree Leo, kahit anong sakuna na dumating sa atin we always find something to smile or even laugh about.

There is more to life than work. We’re all doing our best and we all know na God is there to help us through.

    This is so sad.

is this true? grabe ‘to :(

they should employ filipinos in their company. it would lessen the tension to the Nth level.

MY GOSH! now ko lang to nalaman! in the US, we have a lot of unemployed who lost their jobs, houses, cars and career and they’re still fighting it out! One can never lose hope! Bless these souls!
