“If you take your oath before an associate justice, that shows your continued respect for the Supreme Court as an institution and as a coequal branch of government, but not for the decision [of the high court authorizing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s appointment of Renato Corona as Chief Justice],”
“The issue here is not the person of Justice Corona but the authority of the President to make an appointment during that period when appointments are prohibited by the Constitution, “Definitely, the appointment was within the prohibited period,” Atty. Edwin Lacierda said.

Liberal Party standard-bearer Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III said Thursday night that he was inclined to take his oath before Supreme Court Associate Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales once he is proclaimed the new President.
Speaking at a press conference, Aquino said he wanted to take his oath before Morales because she was the lone dissenter in the Supreme Court
decision that allowed President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to appoint Chief Justice Renato Corona.
