Let me begin by saying that you will be reading a SONA reaction from a loyal Noynoy Aquino supporter. However, this does not mean that I will be singing kumbaya with my President at all times – just because. Having said that, I will try to be fair with Gloria Arroyo (Can you imagine me saying that? I must be going nuts!) By saying that the findings would have been more believable if it was conducted by a third-party and/or independent auditors and I’m certainly not referring …

Can you believe this?! Our country’s debt is now a whopping P4.4 trillion! And there is not even a decent expressway that spans from south of Manila all the way to Matnog, Sorsogon. All we hear are Nograles unexplained wealth, Arroyo’s sons unexplained wealth and more! The article said:

“All borrowings under President Arroyo’s term–that racked up the country’s outstanding debt to a whopping P4.2 trillion as of 2008 from only P2.2 trillion in 2000–were necessary, her economic managers argue, amid accusations the President was responsible for the country’s deepening …

A very interesting read about the Balkans that we, in the Philippines can relate. The article discusses the problems and possible solutions (some sections of the case study were removed). In the Balkans, organized crime is their big corruption problem. In the Philippines, it seemed like the [insert word here] is the mafia. In the Balkans, they have incentives. In the Philippines? Nada. What we have is easier national unity, never having to grapple with ethnic civil wars.

I’m sharing this article that was sent to me by an FB friend. Sounds pretty much like how they do it back home I guess.
This is a throwaway account (I’m a longtime redditor under another login). /r/economics might not be the correct place to put this, but it was the best I could think of. I’m a mid-career guy in a business that does a lot of work with governmental and quasi-governmental agencies. I’ve never ripped anyone off personally, but I have seen and occasionally been an incidental beneficiary of …

What a news!
The Ombudsman cleared President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo of culpability for their roles in the aborted $329-million national broadband deal known as ZTE controversy, but recommended the filing of criminal and administrative charges against former Commission on Elections chief Benjamin Abalos and Neri.

Probably brought about by spiralling survey ratings caused by serious blunder to blunder campaign and a slew of lies including the psycho report which is indefensible, in a 360 degree turn, Manny Villar now wants to prosecute all twistedly corrupt government officials including Gloria Arroyo. Makes me wonder, who would be number one on his list? His name?!
“Too late the hero”.

When Manny Villar said Friday morning that he will prosecute all government officials including Gloria Arroyo, the question is not whether he will do it — the answer is too …

I’m no stranger to auditing federal contracts. One of the best jobs I’ve ever had. Why? The things that you discover would amaze you. I get a kick discovering what people do just to beat the system. One time, a consultant has been submitting his invoice for payment. The company has been paying him for years! Hahaha! He included another consultant on the list – who was not doing any work for the company. I would discover that she was the wife. He changed her name. How …

By Engr. Jonathan A. Francisco
Like a patient suffering from a terminal illness, a decisive radical therapy must be administered by the incoming administration to save this country from the brink of the state of failure.
The “Bitter Pills” must be prescribed and administered for a corruption-free economic recovery and arrest the gap in the National Budget for the Calendar Year 2011. These should be done for the first six months of President Benigno Simeon Cojuanco Aquino III Administration:
1. Six months moratorium for Pork Barrel Allocation
2. Moratorium on the filling up …

Here’s what drove the Senators to make bastos each other sa Bastusang Pambansa. It’s a nice presentation (thanks to GMA News) to truly understand how all these liko-liko, balu-baluktot highway seemed to be looking for something and it was not even the original plan. Sometimes, you begin to wonder, bakit kaya ganun ka-blatant sila by doing this? I would guess, because there has been so many of them in the past who were able to get away with blatant corruption, otherwise, why would politicians do what they do no matter …

Nagulat ako with all these news na para syang puzzle and I put them all together at eto ang nakita ko saking bolang kristal na nakabitay between my legs:
“The Philippines budget deficit soared 17 percent above the official target last year as spending rose to offset the impacts of the global financial crisis, an official said Monday. The deficit hit 293.2 billion pesos (6.35 billion dollars) in 2009, equivalent to 3.7 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), a finance department official, who declined to be named, told AFP. This …

NOW WHAT?!
My problem with these corruption cases and what really pisses me off is that: WHY DO THEY CATCH THEM AFTER THE FACT when most plunderers have already benefited from stolen public money? WHERE IS COA? THE COMMISSION ON AUDIT?! How come there are no proactive moves from the government to stop corruption? With dozens and dozens of legislators, senators, congressman and a lot of departments here, chairman there, secretary here, does anybody from the government knew and/or heard about “PROPER INTERNAL CONTROLS” or was this knowingly and blatantly erased …

The Crying Need For Honesty
By Jose Ma. Montelibano
EXCERPTS:

“Politics, like business, is also profit-oriented for many of its players. If a candidate can spend millions or billions for positions which pay their occupants only hundreds of thousands a year, it means that there is profit to be made in some other way than mere salary.”
“Money being spent for elections mostly come from the people themselves, “fried in one’s own lard,” as they say. The people do not know this, of course. Only the thieves and their hired lackeys are fully aware …

Backstage info:  So far highly educated rumors has it that the main front runners for the next presidential election are political royalties Noynoy Aquino with Mar Roxas, billionaire Manny Villar, Macapagal protege Gibo Teodoro, and ex-con ex-President Erap Estrada with his sidekick Jojo Binay.  I’m not sure what these guys’ plans are, but they better start helping the typhoon-ravaged country NOW!

Now it’s your turn to make up your own cartoon scenario.

What’s the buzz?
On October 2007, Chuva Chienes posted this video of Aga Muchlach, discussing the frustrating governance in the Philippines. Nakita ko uli sya sa Facebook. It’s been going around. Whew! ~paypay~ Which really tells us one thing – nothing has changed. NADA Senyora! Pun~!@#$%_ta!

Don’t get me wrong, 105th man sya, uuwi at uuwi pa rin ako sa Manila. That’s the only place I call home. Well, oo. Pati Philadelphia. Pero, sumaksak na naman sa utak ko ang lecheng SONA. If you review and memorize the SONA, para tayong isla bonita, economically progressive barrio, happy buong la familia.
Everytime naman kasi na magta-talak ang mga manager’s nang ating gobyerness, that we have achieved way beyond on this, unemployment is down – tigok na kasi mga nag-hahanap nang trabaho; inflation is under control, GDP is up …

Jail mayors violating waste laws—DENR chief! EEEEEKKK! Not me! Labas ako dyan. Kapitana lang ako!
Pero, oo nga naman. Throw them in jail! For contributing to the flooding brought by Ondoy’s rains or tubig sa dam, or whatever. Now, I’m not sure if that’s going to happen. O baka naman this is just another blame game. If I know, isa pa ata ang DENR sa wanton eklavu nang paglaho nang mga kahoy and lumber in the mountains?! Unabeted mining? Open pit pa? Catanduanes? Rapu-rapu? Sablayan?!

There is no question that Pork Bariles will never disappear. To us, Barrio Siete Folks, this represents the epitome of corruption to da maximum level. Sabi nga, why fight the lecheng system when we as concerned citizens, are powerless to do something with pork bariles that our tongressmen gets? All that we can do is voice out what we think they need to do. Will they listen to us?! Ewan!
Yet, tayo na mga kargador nang mga barko in the private sector have to follow a lot of internal …

I was mum. There’s a new war brewing over the horizon. And I, Anakanang Skywalker, was not up for it.
After that inter-galactic war of the not-so-distant past and some short intensity conflicts I eagerly joined for the Barriotic cause, I am not quite sure if the men are ready for yet another battle.
Personal reasons are also prominent more than just the practical. I have friends on both sides. My allegiance goes to the empire, to which I served and fought dutifully, as well as to some newly-acquired friends who calls …

(Photo Credits: Wikipedia) Nang-galaiti ang mga prelates ki Panlilio. Yan ang headline kani-kanina nung binuksan ko online papers. Nag-ngi-ngit-ngit sila nung pinahayag ni Fr. Ed Panlilio ang plano nya to run for President. At ano ang ikinakagalet nang mga kasamahan ni Fr. Panlilio sa simbahan? Ang bottom line kasi nito is the separation of Church and the State. Pag pinagsama mo nga naman sila, mistulang Iran. But does it really mean na porque merong “Fr.” sa unahan nang pangalan ni Panlilio eh this is now equivalent to the marriage of …

Corruption is evil. Trapos are evil. Ang mga nakaupo na me mga porsyento sa kontrata nang gobyerno are evil. One of the most blatant corruption shit I have ever experienced in my life in the barrio which to this day na-trauma talaga ako was during one mayoral election sa bayan namen nung panahon nang hapon.

One candidate tagged as no-read no-write has the money. Of course, he has been the mayor forever. He was running for re-election at parating talo sa bayan namen because he’s got no accomplishment and worse, binitbit …

We all know that our dear country where our Barrio Siete is, the Philippines is mired into some deep corruption at all levels. We are all so sick of all thieveries that is happening at all levels of management that we tend to forget the little ones.
Yes, the little Barrio City ones.
Some corrupt practices are very sophisticated, it could not readily be known to a layman. Some involved multi-party, so synchronize to a point that agents from CSI-Miami would not even notice. Especially when you talk about stock manipulations that’s …

“Ordinary people do not feel empowered to speak out against corruption … Governments are considered to be ineffective in the fight against corruption—a view that has remained worryingly consistent in most countries over time,”

That’s what it says on Transparency International’s 2009 Global Corruption Barometer Report, released Wednesday. It showed that 77 percent of Filipino respondents thought that the “current government’s actions in the fight against corruption” were “ineffective.” Grabe di ba? Bansagan ka ba namang inutil! I don’t know kung nasasaktan nito ang mga powers that be, but I was!
