The Flu that Flew

23 June 2009 27 Comments

Here is the current update about Influenza A H1N1 cases in the Philippines:

The Philippines has 445 cases of Influenza A-H1N1 as of June 22, 2009. A 49-year-old woman with a pre-existing chronic heart disease and who also had the A-H1N1 virus died on June 19, 2009. The Department of Health said the woman died of “congestive heart failure secondary to acute myocardial infarction aggravated by severe pneumonia either bacterial, viral or both.” “A(H1N1) is not the cause of death, but the virus could have exacerbated the situation,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said at a news conference. (Source: GMAnews.tv)

Influenza A H1N1 (earlier called as Swine Flu) is an infectious cocktail – combined with genetic strands from the viruses that cause swine flu, avian flu and human flu. There are different influenza viruses out there and each has its own telling tale of infection and mortality.

I dunno if somebody had prayed for H1n1 to infect the House of Representatives – the first reported death of H1N1 has been identified as an employee of House of Representatives. The employee also has pre-existing conditions such as problems with the heart, liver and kidney. Therefore, the employee himself had a weak immune system. But the question remained unaswered: Where the heck did she got that H1N1?

Another set of questions that DOH and WHO should answer: How virulent is this novel virus? Is it capable of staying in the air that long? Is personal hygiene the overall solution to this?

Isa pang nakakapagtaka sa case na ito: Have you noticed that most of the infected cases are those belonging to the middle class and/or upper class citizens? While those belonging to the plain Juan class e parang wala lang. :P

I believe that DOH should encourage people to eat the right stuff in order to strengthen their immune defenses, instead of washing hands lang. Lagi ka ngang naghuhugas ng kamay but you dont eat vegetables and other healthy stuff.

Let’s face it. That’s the reality here. You are the one who is making pahid of kulangot under your desk. :P

Is the panic over H1N1 overblown or some sort of OA? Well, it could be. Its okay to be vigilant but not panicky. Ako e magpapanic lang kung ilan sa mga worst case scenarios ang nangyari sa atin like for example:

1. There is an outbreak of the deadly ebola virus. As in community outbreaks.

2. May nagsaboy ng anthrax sa hangin natin.

3. May nuclear threat sa Pinas (I hope wag naman sana)

4. Naging mala-resident evil zombies na ang mga tao and start chasing other people for food.

5. May naglanding na Cloverfield alien dito sa atin and started wrecking havoc dito sa Pinas. (By that time, I would run like hell na talaga)

We need answers from WHO and DOH. Dapat masagot nila the five W’s and an H of the Influenza H1N1. Sa aking tingin e nagpapanic ang ilan because of the lack of information about this pesky virus. Report nga ng report ng tungkol sa infected cases ng H1N1 pero have they established the background of the virus? Why it suddenly came out of nowhere?

Which can be an advantage din diba?

Dahil raw higit na 100++ ang sipon at ubo virus ang i dedevelop nila against it in their lifetime.

    • Silver says:

May bahid ng katotohanan yan Mahalia. Yung sobrang linis e mas prone pa daw. Better have a few germs in your body to build resistance ika nga.

    • Glo says:

kaya i dont give antibiotics sa anak ko, kung ang sipon nya eh wala namang halong lagnat. tiyak kasi, virus lang yan. he just needs rest, lots of vitamin C, fluids, chicken soup etc. kahit mag-reseta ng antibiotics ang doktor, i don’t give it to him. kung mag lagnat, ayun bacterial yan, so u need the antibiotics. ;)

alam nyo…ang hula ko dyan, somebody develop swine flu at ikinalat…o di ba, magandang population control yan. ;) hehehe.

so ang pharma company, maglalabas ng flu vaccine. nyek! ;)

  • Mahalia says:

  • darbs says:

    @Mahalia, hahahaha! conspiracy theory ha?

I like conspiracy theory. It makes you think how evil people are.

Ang problema lang is how to prove it.

everyone’s going gaga over about A H1N1, sa building namin, confirmed na may isang AH1N1 case, andaming paranoid, ayaw sumakay ng elevator hahaha

  • Glo says:

panic is the best killer of them all. those in power want the general population to panic. so they get scared, they buy unnecessary stuff. like face masks, flu vaccine etc. it’s a commercial world after all. and we consumers are vulnerable to it. ;)

i got this from forwarded emails written by a certain Arnie that I would like to share to you all:

Huwag nang magulat sa kabilintunaan ng DOH. Tandaan ang nakaraan:

    1. Nuong bago pa ang swine flu: DOH: We will keep RP free from virulent and deadly swine flu.

    3. Nuong may unang flu na sa Pinas: DOH: If you have flu like symptoms, report immediately to 4 designated hospitals right away and quarantine yourselves for 10 days. Business and schools should close if a case of (now) a(h1n1) is confirmed.

Stay home. Businesses and schools need not close (“Look at ADB!”).
