The Misunderstood Artist

As I write this entry, I’m watching Michael Jackson’s memorial. I know na pasado alas-dos na ng madaling araw. But I can’t help being nostalgic and share a grieving part of mine. Emo di ba? But please, let me be. :(

Why did I say that Michael is a misunderstood artist? Bakit nga ba? The media portrayed him as something alien and a trainwreck, as well as putting heavy emphasis on the eclectic stuff that he does.

But have we ever wondered why he did those things? The inner reasons why these things happened to him?

Why his skin turned white? Did he really molest the children in Neverland? Why he undergone cosmetic surgeries?

It is now that I begin to understand the reasons – that he had a broken childhood, that he did not enjoy his youth at all. That he longed for the innocence that youth can bring. That he probably was traumatized and stressed with all the things he had to do – because he was big and famous.

And most of the clues were written in his songs. Take time to listen and psychoanalyze them for a bit.

I can’t imagine the stress his fame brought to him. It must have been awful. Sikat nga siya at mapera but its lonely at the top. Really. Most of us fail to realize this because we tend to associate fame with wealth and personal progress – which doesn’t really work all the time. Fame is not the total definition of success. It can be the definition of your personal doom.

Michael paid the high cost of fame. Other celebrities paid it too.

Looking back at the media fiascos that ruined Michael’s day, I can’t help but think that the media, maybe not all, but some of them have been cruel to him. Seriously, I think some of the media who portrayed him as a monster trainwreck back then, are now singing praises to him as well as celebrating his life and times.

I find it predatory and hypocritical. Seriously.

Why?

Look at the so-called trainwrecks they have reported: Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Michael Jackson – anong common denominator nila pagdating sa media?

They are complaining about the encroachment of media into their private lives. They are complaining the spin of intrigues being thrown at them – damaging their careers and even splintering their personalities. We all know the nature of showbiz media. But sometimes, I think they have gone too far and are now reporting a barn full of horse dung para lang maka-scoop.

The media has forgotten that celebrities are private individuals too. And yes, they are just like us, the common guys who can also do some crazy stuff.

You can ask Princess Diana what killed her. Yes. Its the stupid paparazzi who chased her to the tunnels in Paris. Para lang makascoop. Up until now, that incident makes me sick and disgusted.

Therefore, the questions go back to us: Naiintindihan ba natin ang mga artists na ito? Who are we to judge them for their eclectic acts? Who are we to judge them if they wanted to have plastic surgeries etc?

I believe that most of the celebrities are misunderstood. Mapwera lang kay Hayden Kho dahil he has the evidence that he is a total idiot.

Michael belongs to the ranks of the misunderstood artists. Misunderstood in a way that perhaps when the real Michael Jackson was  juxtaposed with the Michael portrayed by most of the media – I can say they are entirely two different individuals.

That’s how some of the media portrayed a misunderstood artist – Michael Jackson.

  • dFish says:

Honest points you have Silvs. I also like what Sully says:

“I grieve for him; but I also grieve for the culture that created and destroyed him. That culture is ours’ and it is a lethal and brutal one: with fame and celebrity as its core values, with money as its sole motive, it chewed this child up and spat him out.”

    • Silver says:

Hmpt.

      • angela says:

tama ka, silver, tulad ng paalala ni whoopi goldberg sa “the view,” after a long trial michael was acquitted by the courts dun sa child molestation case. and kung nag-settle man siya dun sa naunang kaso, it was not because he was guilty but because he wanted to avoid having to go to court and suffering the stress and humiliation, and siyempre the media coverage, na siya na ngang nangyari with the second case.

        • Silver says:

Kumbaga angela, there are always two sides in the story. Unfortunately, sa takbo ng mundo ngayon, minsan di na napapakinggan ang the other side of the story. Tsk.

    • darbs says:

If you were here in THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA in the early 90′s nang pumutok ang balitang pang momolestiya… araw araw for almost 2 years ata na ang head line about sa bata at suddenly nahinto na lang nang may bayaran nang nangyari.

Puedi kang maging GENIUS OF ALL GENUISES, sikat na sikat sa iyong talento, pero pag batang amerikano na ang iyong titirahin… YOU ARE DEAD! kahit buhay ka pa.

  • reynz says:

    Eto: Dito ako naiyak:

    • Silver says:

Iyak din ako sa part na yan. Hindi na tissue ang need ko. KUMOT NA.

    • dFish says:

Michael’s child knows better his heart trapped in the modern dinosaurs called the money-machine monster side of media…

  • reynz says:

TEKA LANG! WAIT! me tanong ang lola! Si Ka Freddie ba, pag natigok, tawag den natin “MIS-UNDERSTOOD ARTIST”? hehehe!

    • N!ckph says:

Kapitana baka p’wede ring “EBOLA ARTIST”

    • jeri says:

Freddie A. will not br called “MIS-UNDERSTOON”. rather he will be called as “UNDER DOG”. coz He keep on doing “underestimate” for the other pinoy artist dahil siya na ay Laos.

  • darbs says:

TEKA LANG! WAIT! me tanong ang lola!

  • dFish says:

Ako noon, MIS-UNDERSTOOD lagi ng mga iniwanan kong kaibigang babae…Ang labo daw, parang si Freddie lang sa Anak (his own regret for being pasaway) hahaha…Kulang na lang maging ARTIST ako…

  • dencios says:

  • Glo says:

eh laaht naman naman ng artists kinda weird. their minds word differently. other side ng brain (i forgot if left or right) ang mas functioning.

well…na-schock lang siguro mga tao when he turned white. he literally crossed the racial barrier. sabi siguro nya, puede naman pala maging puti ang balat ko? sige mapaputi na nga buong katawan! ;)

sabi nga ng lyrics ng kanta nya: it doesn’t matter if it’s black or white. sawa na sya na black, eh di white naman sya.

sabi ng isang analyst something…MJ didn’t want to grow old looking like his father. kaya pati mukha nya pinaiba nya talaga. ;)

    • Silver says:

      Glo,

Wala naman artist na hindi weird. Lahat ng artists e ganyan – weirdness is a source of their creativity. ;)

And because there is a thin line between creativity and insanity – may tendency ang ibang artists toward the other side.

  • Glo says:

their minds work differently! (daming typo sa taas). ;) hehhehehe.

  • jeri says:

I believe that most of the celebrities are misunderstood. Mapwera lang kay Hayden Kho dahil he has the evidence that he is a total idiot.

    Comment*******

Celebrities has their own way para mapansin ng publiko depends on their personality at kung saan nababagay.. like Michael Jackson. his transformation from Black to white ay masyadong na-sensationalized bagay na hindi lubos maintindihan ng publiko, na siya lang ang higit ang nakaka-alam kung bakit nya ginusto yun.

About Hayden kho, obviously he is really a Stupid, hindi ako senador para bigyan pa ng pansin ang kanyang ginawang katarantaduhan.

But they something in common with JACKO… Si hayden kho ay nag Transfrom din From “DOCTOR” to “DIRECTOR”. Agreee???????

  • Reesie says:

:D Okay pa ba yang puso mo diyan?
