The psychology of ethics corner-cutting

12 April 2010 13 Comments

There is no question as to how filthy this election campaign is. However, there is no denying that for every dirty tactic thrown by anti Noynoy camp, the more the challenger drowns in its own basura.

Yes Matilda, it backfires muna, then it fizzles out.

It’s a strategy to bring down Noynoy by bringing down Noynoy the person himself.

It started with an attack that he’s autistic. It didn’t work.

Aha! He’s a bachelor! That didn’t work either.

What about the 1st campaign ad? Well, sorry – that too, did not work.

It went on with his lack of intelligence. Nope!

They dug into his legislative records. Ah-ah!

They blamed Kris Aquino. It didn’t work.

Even his non-appearance on the so many twisted scheduling of presidential forums and debates were pushed as the central issue. That didn’t work too!

TOPAKS?!

What about a psychology report? Now that to me was more like a really, really bad Tontology Drama.

No one is really forcing us to perform in unethical ways but dishonesty in this election campaign is what characterizes Noynoy Aquino’s challengers.

Ethics at play or none of it.

The opponents are so beleaguered they have engaged in ethics corner-cutting which they seem to believe as an intelligent strategy to catch up with the numbers of Noynoy Aquino, 27 days to election.

But what the opponent has done was ignore our being Filipino, clear reason why the strategy backfired, again.

As Filipinos, we value honesty, we value ethical behavior, we long for an end to corruption. Isn’t honesty, a Cory virtue?

Do you like to be lied to? I don’t.

Do you like to lose out to a cheater? I don’t.

And I certainly don’t want to be confronted as a fraud either.

However, when it comes to managing the future of our nation, our children (yours pala!), ethics corner-cutting is not acceptable. There is no excuse for lying, cheating and corner-cutting. Honesty still, is the best policy.

And so, would it be fair to say that if we are seeing Noynoy Aquino riding through the storms of election campaign dirt, that his values are properly anchored?

Anyway, I wonder what could be cooking next…

These are people who pretend to love Filipinos but only really love themselves and their vested interests in running. Its sad that their party pretends to pass off itself as a better alternative to current governance when they are in fact – far worse than current governance based on their history of legal thievery, law manipulation, manic greed and hunger for power.

With all the signs pointing at a more vigilant citizenry this coming elections, they already know that if their party wins, people will really go out into the streets to protest their unholy allegiance with the incumbents.

People are sick and tired of dirty politicians who hide behind the skirts of their office and positions to coerce people into submission allowing themselves the privilege to steal en-flagrante.

it’s easy to explain naman what drive$ them to cut corner$, but mo$t e$pecially if you have $helled out million$ for your campaign, apparently these people behind him like Peter Cayetano and Remulla know$ which side of their pande$al ha$ butter and who put$ it in there

Can’t help from commenting Reynz: you are really right Reynz about this Ethics in politics. Americans take this word quite seriously (i did my grad studies in bioethics there). South Koreans take this word really seriously (except when they came to Pinas because they know politicians could be bribed). So are the Japanese.

It’s really really sad and angering how such a young mind in Peter Cayetano (or even Remulla) could betray the trust of the many who catapulted him into where he is, by losing his principles (or maybe he is really trapo from the very start and the Senate is simply his platform for grandstanding) by compromising with the self and nation destructive of unethical politicking. The same with Liza Maza who is now swallowed by the Villar-style of backstabbing even of women, an area that Gabriela-raised Maza used to fight for. Now Joma of the CPP-NPA, whose perpetual vacation in the Netherlands should have divested him of any honorary title of “freedom fighter” or political adoration could not even see beyond his Dutch comfort, how the Villar camp has been into GROSSLY UNETHICAL POLITICS.

Philippine politics is indeed very tricky and full of traps. But thanks to a growing empowered citizens, the next EDSA will be showcased not on a literal avenue nor initiated by self-confessed leftist ideologues but in the minds of ordinary Filipinos who are growing in their creative and critical thinking over what’s GROSSLY UNETHICAL and what’s SIMPLY APPROPRIATE for a human being.

    DFish,

Joma Sison is indeed enjoying the mild and balmy Dutch climate while on the other hand, his cohorts here in the Philippines are enduring the tropical heat of their hiding areas.

In short, EPOKRITO ang leader nila. May freedom fighter pang nalalaman. E di bumalik siya ng pinas para ipaglaban ang so-called principles nila. Hindi yung nakahilata lang siya dyan sa Netherlands. Tsk.

This is where they were raised and aged. The generation that perhaps our youth today will follow…. wag sanang gagaya ang mga kabataan sa henerasyong ganito. Pero sa nakikita ko sa ugali ng mga pag-asa ng bayan natin ngayon, wala pa ring pagbabago…
    Hanggang “sana” na lang…
