The Sculpture Garden of the New Orleans Museum of Art

23 May 2009 34 Comments

Oui! Je suis barriotic! And I never really understood noon ba’t kaya me mga museum, kung saan naka-display mga tigok nang tao o dili kaya mga kubyertos nung sina-unang panahon. Malay ko ba! I was busy kahig food when I was still in the barrio. I see them in books, but I was never really interested at them. It was only until I came to the United States when I started appreciating art. Barriotic?! Mahilig sa art?! Can you imagine? My first taste was actually at the Art Museum in Philadelphia. Then most of the museums around the National Mall in Washington DC. Since then, I have been to the National Museum in Bogota, Colombia; the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam; the Louvre Museum in Paris, all around Prague which is almost like a living museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest and the Metropolitan Museum in New York. It’s amazing what you see and learn inside.

Can they make gaya these ones I’ll be showing you? They can create their own Sculpture Garden. Come! Come to momma!

16.) By Saar, a thought-provoking memorial to victims of terror and violence. The man, while formally dressed is presented in a torturous position, yet he appears brave and resolute, preserving his personal dignity. Saar has made the figure into a bell, inspired by Japanese temple bells, which are rung in purification rites. When chain is pulled on the back, a deep mournful sound is heard. The title, Travelin Light is taken from a popular Billie Holiday song.

    • reynz says:

  • nina says:

This is similar to Rodin Museum in Paris – mga sculptures na nasa garden.

  • Snow says:

I love the large seated cardinal in bronze by Giacomo Manz. Lakas ng dating sa akin, reminds me of Jaime Cardinal Sin.

Lovely sculpture Reynz! Ganda ng mga art na ito. ^_^

  • Silver says:

Gusto ko yung stainless monkeys…ang ganda nila. At saka yung overflow.

Si Adolf Hitler nga, mantaken nyo, before naging head ng Nazi e isa pala siyang watercolor artist nung kabataan nya.

Favorite painter ko si Salvador Dali. Natutuwa ako sa mga paintings nya. Mind boggling. Paglalaruan ang imagination mo. Haha.

  • Badet says:

Sa totoo lang, I don’t appreciate visiting museums, it bores me to death. Pero siguro pagdating ng panahon at nag-mature na rin ako, maiintindihan ko na kung bakit may museum. Pero ang cute ng safety pin ha… yun lang talaga ang napansin ko. =)

    • reynz says:

hahaha, ganyan din ako, i mean, tiga-barrio ba naman ako and what do you expect, right? pero once you’re in there taz ma-experience mo, iba talaga.

one of the best na muntik ko nang makita taz iniwanan ko sina Chuva was this Human Body Parts na exhibition sa Art Museum in Philadelphia. Mga tunay na kalansay nang tao taz sinabugan nang plastic at mukhang tunay – as in natakot ako hahaha

  • DInah says:

wow, ibang level na nga ang barrio, as in culture kung culture eto!
i especially like the overflow in stainless, before i was disctracted by those matitigas na mama. ha ha

  • Naks! Ang galing ng mga art na ito! Sana makapunta din ako sa mga places na yan. :D
