The Ugly Side of Blogging

17 March 2010 21 Comments

This post is dedicated to the men, women and gays who are constantly attacking my other balay, Barrio Siete.

You inspire me to make this very timely tribute.

Within the next few days, I will be celebrating my 3rd anniversary since I created this humble blog and I thank you for your continued patronage. Without you my dear readers, I would be nothing and my colleagues in Barrio Siete especially La Kapitana wouldn’t have noticed me. I have learned a lot from blogging but the most important experiences I have had so far was when I joined the said collective blog. I have learned a lot. Blogging is fun, but just like life, there’s ups and downs. Laughter and sadness. Tears of joy and sorrow. The good thing though is that at the end of the day, there’s always lessons learned from these experiences.

When you tackle a certain issue especially the sensitive ones, expect feedbacks, both positive and negative and everything should be dealt and responded accordingly, in a civilised way of course.

Especially now that the elections are a few days from now, lumalabas ang tunay na kulay ng mga tao kung sino man ang kanilang napiling mamumuno sa ating bansa. Sa panahong ito nasusubok ang integrity, loyalty, morality and level of respect ng isang tao based from whatever choices he makes.

Barrio Siete is composed of unique writers, both regular and contributing. Like you, hindi rin pare-pareho ang stand and choices kung sino ang mas angkop na maging pangulo. Despite the diversity, we are still able to get along and communicate, support and respect each others choices.

Many of you are unaware that a few personalities in the blogosphere have been throwing insults, making up stories and personally attacking several writers and Barrio Siete in general. Not just because of the choices we make but for the very simple reason: hatred.

That’s what they do best. Instead of giving a decent answer and a healthy rebuttal, they attack not just your statement and choices but also your sexual preference, educational attainment, gender, race and family. Irrelevant issues in general.

I’m just wondering that with all these attacks, they never really take on real men. Bakit? Yun lang ba ang kaya nilang awayin? Takot ba silang masuntok? Baka mag-smear ang make-up? According to my soul sister sa pananampalataya, this is the behaviour of a person with a lot of personal issues that he has not yet fully accepted. Yun bang tipong may tinatago at gustong i-express but cannot that’s why they take their miseries on other people. Perhaps consider getting out of the closet? Maybe not.

Or is it drugs? I know some are former (or baka hanggang ngayon pa rin) drug dependents. Commenting on their own blog posts using a different name, kunwari may nagko-comment talaga. So funny and pathetic.

What about childhood trauma. They’ve been bullied as a kid that’s why they did their best in school and now that they’re well-equipped ‘intellectuals’ they use this to fire the ‘helpless’ ones. Puede?

But what’s with the name calling? Parang larong bata lang at 50? Yes, mga matatanda na kayo, I know. Kung kelan pa tumanda saka pa naging pasaway. Some even called former Pres. Cory Aquino a slut, (or was it bitch?) No person in the right mind would say that to a very well respected President. She may not be perfect but that doesn’t give you the right to call her that. Alalahanin niyo, babae din ang nanay niyo and I’m certain that there are a lot of women in your family. What if I call your mother that, would that make you smile? Because if I had the chance, I might say that but I know better. Which brings me to my final ‘theory’ why the hatred.

I’d call her ‘mother of an ugly child with a small wiener’.

Uy!
is is the ‘gurl’ behind “The Misadventures of Mel Beckham”. ‘She’ graduated with a double major in Management and Entrepreneurship. ‘She’ grew up in the city but now lives in the bukid near barrio siete juggling work as a farm manager, office secretary, messenger, construction worker, housemaid, make-up artist and babysitter. Despite ‘her’ busy schedule, ‘she’ finds the time to blog in between work, and errands using ‘her’ primitive mobile phone. ‘She’ plans to take ‘her’ MBA soon but ‘her’ multiple jobs prevent ‘her’ from doing so unless going to school will get ‘her’ paid to pay for ‘her’ utangs. Before ‘she’ dies, ‘she’ hopes of owning a pair of Louboutins, and landing on the cover of Vogue, kahit sa Vogue India lang. Whichever comes first.

Violent reactions are welcome. Kiver kahit anong sabihin mo. But try to stay on topic and avoid personal attacks. Only privileged Barrio people & readers are allowed to swear.
