The yellow sun in brightest day

In his post game analysis, Cocoy writes:

The importance of surveys

At the onset of the campaign, Villar conducted what Manolo Quezon called “the air war.” As strategists and tacticians know (and real time strategy players too), you can’t invade land with just planes. You still need your army and your marines. Planes simply don’t occupy land.

With that in mind, the rise of Estarda and the fall of Villar follows our raison d’être from the start of the campaign. That in this election, voter preference sided with “cares for the poor” and “not corrupt.” This ties very well with Aquino’s regained popularity following the near equal footing he and Villar had at the beginning of the race. It ties very well with making the case between integrity and competence.

The messaging worked. “Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap (if there is no corruption, there is no poverty).” This resonated with voters.

This is another thing that worked. Through surveys, we could early on conclude that the stragglers were a non-issue to begin with. Teodoro didn’t gain any traction. Not only did he not get funds and Lakas machinery, but his message simply didn’t resonate with voters.

The same with Gordon, and the same with Villanueva and the other players.

Teodoro’s and Gordon’s supporters were loud online, which was a battlefield to be sure, but it was the air war. The ground war needed to be won.

It was Aquino versus VIllar from the beginning. In every campaign, there are limited resources and Aquino didn’t have Villar’s deep pockets. You can’t fight a war on multiple fronts on a shoestring budget.

Listening to the poll numbers and basically ignoring everyone else but VIllar proved an able strategy. It took months to do, but by the last leg of the campaign, right around Easter Sunday, Villar was definitely finished.

With defeat assured, Villar and Legarda will return to the senate. The question is, could they rally support to be a thorn in the side of an Aquino presidency?

We got the results in 1~2 days, di na napapagod teachers natin sa long hours ng canvassing and above all eh wala na yung dagdag-bawas. That is a victory already to the Filipino people!

  • Jet says:

To me I can only say the phrase
“Yellow Sun in Brightest Day” when as I type this comments -

    1) No Pinoy family is missing their breakfast, lunch or dinner;
    2) No Pinoy OFW is forced to fly today to Syria or Lebanon to have a 3 year contract as a house helper;
    3) All kids can enroll for this June start of school;
    4) No College graduate will walk and knock hopelessly today on companies and not getting a job for months or years;
    5) No Pinoy will avoid an important/life threatening medical operation or treatment because he/she doesnt have the money..
    6) No Filipino passport will be rejected today in some foreign shores because they think the Philippine is some low class 3rd world nation…

So it is not in the winning but in the governing….

    • reynz says:

that i be home and get a job there. hehe

    • Mark says:

Sus naman tong si Jet…forever kontra-bida.

Si superman ata ang kelangan mo pare.

No Pinoy, no Pinoy ka dyan….para kang amo mo, malayo sa realidad.

Get off your high horse Jet, nakaka-sawa ka na!

      • Mel says:

        Hahaha!

Kuya Jet, bakit akala mo ba Gordon can do those things you enumerated?

Masyadong perfect world ang hinihingi mo, be realistic naman.

        That’s all.

        • Jet says:

People eating 3x a day, children going to school, people getting jobs, aren’t PERFECT WORLD, this are just the BASICS….

Unless we accept that, we will let 2016 get by and still allow these inequities and injustice to happen…

          • BURAOT says:

all your sentiments resonate clearly on all of us Jet. ain’t we all want that? but clearly and let us be real here, nobody, not even Noynoy nor Gordon can do such monumental task.

only a system that is inherently fair can probably do those, and socialism being the closest. although history proves that even that will lead to a more dehumanized society that I will not even support it.

pero dahil baka maubos ang space to start discussing those nosebleeds, let’s also be pragmatic and start on one particluar task na doable.

like for example, alisin ang pink urinals sa edsa?

    • Mel says:

And with regards to your comment number 3 that all children be enrolled this coming June, kung nanalo ba ang mahal mong Gordon eh mapapaeskwela niya ang lahat ng bata ngayong June eh kakaupo pa lang niya bilang presidente?

      I doubt!

      • Jet says:

He said he will feed kids in school to encourage them to go to school everyday… He said this is a MUST and not just a Nice-to-have.

But this is water under the bridge, he is not our President.

        • fz says:

he sez a kindle for every students…sorry but what we need is a real book for evey students/pupils… kindle, despite the scarce of real books and classrooms for the school and he proposes a kindle.

          peace -_-

    • fz says:

      4) No College graduate will walk and knock hopelessly today on companies and not getting a job for months or years;
      5) No Pinoy will avoid an important/life threatening medical operation or treatment because he/she doesnt have the money..

sounds a bit like Buraot’s life! (iba nga lang yung number 5)

  • Abby says:

Why are you thinking of kapalpakans na di pa naman nangyayari!! Pwede ba, yung talangka mentality will get us nowhere. Let’s be positive, let’s be thankful and let’s be hopeful! Pero syempre, these are not enough- let’s take action too!! Start the change, be the change. Eh ngayon kung ayaw mo ng resulta ng eleksyon, vote again after six years or better yet, make yourself more useful!

    • jules says:

      agree!

      • kengkay says:

        • Snow says:

same here kengkay, dapat positive thinking muna ang mentality natin. paano natin matutulungan ang bagong presidente kung babatuhin mo agad ng problemang hindi pa niya napag-aaralang lutasin? heller, hintayin muna natin ang transition process ng presidential powers from arroyo to aquino.

by the way, rumor has it that villar could be the senate president and arroyo could really become a speaker of the house! sana po hindi mangyari…nakakapagod na silang tignan…make way to the new guys naman sa congress at senado pleaaseee… :(

  • Jasper says:

Nice to see that most of the people here are positive and has interest of helping our government.

    • Snow says:

well jasper depende rin kasi sa namumuno. we need a leader with integrity at may credibility. remember po, cory aquino has that qualities? same with noynoy din.

      • fz says:

dapat kumpleto, dapat may mar roxas

      • Jasper says:

      • Jasper says:

Dagdagan ko pa Snow, ganyan din ba ikaw sa boss mo sa office pag-feel mo na di sya credible or wala syang integrity hirap kang sumunod sa office rules? just asking and don’t take this personally but honestly you make my blood boils with your remarks. the words “depende yan sa manununo”. that poor attitude.

        • Snow says:

we are talking about noynoy here running the country. he won because of his integrity and credibility. no, i don’t take your comments personally but rather, i do respect it.

fyi, in barrio siete, we value diversity. thanks…

        • BURAOT says:

this argument is fallacious. i had somebody with the same defense before, comparing the leaders/govt official and the public to bosses/employers and employees.

here’s the very DISTINCT reason why we should never used that comparison.

the relationship as to who the boss is rather different. in an office setting, there is no such thing as democracy. your boss had the final say, because he pays you to do your job. in public office, democracy rules. the govt official is NOT the boss. WE ARE. notwithstanding the fact that WE pay for their salary, we are also the one who put them in office.

          • Snow says:

idagdag ko lang jasper: i pay for my taxes, tumatawid din po ako sa tamang tawiran and as far as i am concerned, ako po ay isang law abiding citizen…

          • Jasper says:

fallacious your face buraot! that’s really difficult to accept because weather you like it or not that reflects your attitude and perspective in life.

they are relevant and even we are paying our taxes (no matter) law of the land is the law of the land at kahit sino pang naka-upo dyan dapat respetuhin at suportahan.

huwag tayong makisayaw sa uso sa pag-sasabing “let’s support our new government” because that is 100% bull! dapat lagi at dati pa natin ito ginagawa.

          • BURAOT says:

eh simpleng good manners nga wala ka eh.

here’s what i suggest, why don’t you stick out your tongue, hilahin mo, then stick it up your own ass!

          • BURAOT says:

            P.S.

            http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/fallacy

  • Jasper says:

Jet ok na yan bro move on na tayo. Gordon din ako at di ko inaasahan na less than a million ang fans nya na mukhang nauto ni Erap yung iba. Pero madami pa syang pwedeng itulong sa country kahit di sya nanalo and I’m still proud na sya ang pinili kahit natalo.

Anyway, at kagaya ng sinabi ng iba lets give Noynoy a chance to prove his worth. Pero at sana lang ready din si Reynz na mag-labas ng article in the future kung sakaling may palpak ang Papa Noynoy nya (peace) hehehe.

  • cocoy says:

thank you. didn’t know you posted this here :D

    i appreciate it. :D

  • Jasper says:

3 years na yung Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Rafaeli: Rumored Married na topic mo.

    • reynz says:

Huli ka Jasper! :-) Ikaw pala si Marlon who made my sexuality an issue tapos di mo naman sinagot.

    • reynz says:

      Jasper,

I’d say, let’s move on na lang. There’s no more reason di ba? President na si Noynoy. I’m sure you were not happy with the loss of your candidate. Ganun lang naman yon Jasper. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. And I think, it’s imperative upon us to just accept realities and not put some other irrelevant issues sa mga real issues around and I’m sure alam mo yon.

My sexuality has got nothing to do with anything. Kaya wag mo nang isali sa discussion. It does not mean na just because bading ako, I am of lower type of homo sapien.

With regards to your sexuality, I respect gays and I have many gay friends but to be honest with you I seldom trust 3rd sex. I guess that’s another topic and I guess respect is more than enough to have world peace.

Nga pala baka gusto mo akong kuning writer kaya lang di ako magaling mag-english like your other writers dyan na nag-lalagay pa ng link from dictionary.com

At kung ano man yang online hate campaign wala akong alam dyan. To make it simple…kung walang kita, walang akong paki-alam.

        • reynz says:

          Jasper,

You certainly can contribute sa Barrio, wala kaming pakealam sa inglish, grammar. actually daming humahabol na grammar & spelling nazi saken at wla akong pakealam hehe. i write for the love of writing kahit na i am not a writer, at walang keyboard na makaka stop sa pag tipa ko.

For as long as relevant or nakakaloka ang contribution mo, we’ll post it. Bawal of course tirahin ang private people baka mapasubo kami.

          • BURAOT says:

            bitter ampalaya kasi talunan.

        • BURAOT says:

plangak! na kontra lang yung argumento mo, nabwisit ka na. for your information, the first comment i made is actually a remark in reference to your argument but not directed at you, it’s like a footnote if you will.

napakadefensive mo masyado at me pa in your face in your face ka pa. sino ngayon ang bastos? kahit si Jet at Kutz naging ka-argumento ko palagi pero hindi ganyan ka bastos.

          ghost. ehe troll pala.

          • reynz says:

yes, some of these Gordon supporters are something else. they’re the most bitter and obviously you can see that they really don’t have any social climbing skills whatsoever. this was the problem of the Gordon campaign. they campaigned to dislike Gordon. then in the end, the numbers that came was pretty pathetic at 400k. what does that mean? it just galvanizes what i have been saying all along. these people need to learn their EQs

          • lee says:

            ei? 400K?
hende totoo yan kamahalan, hende yan totoo,

          • Jasper says:

    • Snow says:

jasper: wala kang paki kahit na 100 years pa akong hindi mag-update ng blog ko. i have all the right not to update if i don’t feel like blogging, ok? maliwanag ba? ;)

  • Gio says:

    i post nyo na lang

basta for Senator Noy it’s time to prove his critics wrong ganun na lang

  • Jasper says:

from reynz “yes, some of these Gordon supporters are something else. they’re the most bitter and obviously you can see that they really don’t have any social climbing skills whatsoever. this was the problem of the Gordon campaign. they campaigned to dislike Gordon. then in the end, the numbers that came was pretty pathetic at 400k. what does that mean? it just galvanizes what i have been saying all along. these people need to learn their EQs”

    ————————————

“some of these Gordon supporters …”

      • Jasper says:

Tapos na ang eleksyon and like what other have posted support nalang natin si Noynoy. Tama na yang patama effect.

  • Mel says:

    Hahaha affected.
