UNLIKELY HEROES
I have to commend Villar for conceding so fast. J.C. of Kapatiran has also conceded. But this voter’s gratitude goes mostly to a) the Comelec, for refusing to buckle or lose focus under the heavy blanket of doubt and malice that came its way; b) for our soldiers and cops who, give or take some idiots or two, fulfilled their pledge to guard against fraud and remain non-partisan; and c) for those long-suffering teachers who took the curses and the plaints and the heat and hunger and shepherded us into what will hopefully be a new age in Philippine democracy.
And I’d like to share my friend’s thoughts on how these viciously-fought contest managed to come up with two most unlikely heroes (at least to people who don’t like them).
Say what you will about the abrasive, temperamental Richard Gordon, but this country owes him for bullying us into actually having nationwide automatic elections. (For the second hero, go to http://indayespinavarona.com/?p=345)
