what is life after you graduate in pinas: tambay
And so, classes in most Barrio Siete and Sitis in the Philippines have opened. At bawat opening, me closing. Eto ngayon ang chorva. Life after college can be very difficult for students everywhere. You may be living in turd or pers world kawntri noh! Anjan na yong there’ll be tons and thousands of graduates like yourself but there are only “limited employment opportunities” to fill in. *Arayat* Por ejemplo, ang aking brother ay 4 years ng graduate pero sa PAL pa rin (as in PALamunin LOL)

More often than not each one of these Phreshly grads will pursue a career that coincides their major. But with a high rate of unemployment many become “Tambays” it’s not unusual in here in the Philippines, well in FAQu it is very common. Let alone the undergrads ha. As in naman bago ka pa makapasok to work as a fast food crew with a starting salary of 14.95 an hour — mind you readers that is peso not dollar$, you need to be at least college level or bettah college graduate ka! I cannot blame most Filipinos as others choose to leave the country be away with their love ones and become ofw’s dahil na din sa taas ng standard at qualifications (Mataas talaga, coz in other countries mind you, you can work as a teller even if you are just a high school graduate.) dito sa Pilipinas, sabi nga ni Lalaine ang worse eh magbenta ng atay, apdo, balunbalunan, dugo nila. Who knows baka mamaya pati apdo mo, eh bine-benta na pala nang sira-ulong boypren mo.
Reality sucks and I am not Gloria Mandurugas Y Macapal Arroyo to change this harsh reality.

Hey Pusa,
First of all, I’m excited to see you here in Barrio Siete hehehe! Welcome! I know i heard you’ve been taking picture of the daily manila life which you can probably share us in the future.
Yet… this is a very timely issue… err eternal leche issue in our maderland.
I guess ang nakakatuwa dahil, our lechelators are focusing very much on literacy and is not doing much on pushing that literacy and translate it into employment. Yon bang basta maka-graduate like it’s in end in itself.
I’m not blaming it all sa gobyerness dahil this is really supposed to be a teamwork nang gobyerness and nung jobseeker. Now, i don’t know much kung anong programs nang gobyerness for jobseekers at hindi na ako magtataka kung wala.
But kahit na meron, kelangan meron ding sapat na program or paraan para sa newly grads na kung di makakuha nang empleo eh create something tangible para maging self-employed sila re: siguro entrepreneurship that would in itself create employment.
I feel like ang end game nito eh wa pakels ang gobyerness sa mga newly grads.
I read about the Independende Day Job chorvalais.
Ahhh welcome to the world of the unemployed..Ito narinig ko nun during our graduation LOL!
Rob,
it seemed to me na job placement is a phrase that does not exist sa mga schools in manila except probably sa mga well-known ones at mga konektado.
Some schools are trying to address this problem: mostly IT schools like STI and AMACC, assuring 100%job placement for their graduates…
that’s nice to hear dFish! which is really the logical thing to do nang mga schools dahil in my mind, ang education does not end sa graduation, dapat talaga tulungan nila nang job placement OR else, entrepreneurship
it’s very encouraging especially for IT students because the demand here and abroad is high. I know big schools have their own career counselling centers but i doubt if students are really maximizing those considering that other careers are hard to find. Hanggang ngayon, unemployed pa rin at the age of 32 hehe. Other big schools, they try to bank on their big names by holding intra-school job fairs. Fair enough i think. Pero pano ang galing Barrio Community College at University?
“Pero pano ang galing Barrio Community College at University?”
which is exactly what i am worried about dahil we were already left out noon and then baka nga ganito pa rin and considering na ang hirap maghanap nang work, how are the graduates sa barrio faring sa employment line? nasa dulo pa rin ba sila?
kawawa payrents who are banking on their kids na maka-alpas sa poverty dahil kung dun lang ang kaya sa Barrio University – then education and employment is not really fair
Barrio Community College grads? Here are their options:
It takes months. From election watchers,mag-aaply sila sa munisipyo, either checker sa mercado o head ng maintenance, depende sa level of party participation. Then, mula doon, guts at streetsmart na – pakiramdaman ang political wind. Medyo nang-iinis lang po. Pero sa totoo lang, madami talaga, kulong sa “politics in the munisipyo” mentality and they are full of potentials as graduates. They think it’s safer to cling with those politicians kahit sira-sira na ang integridad hahaha…
So, nag stay ako for 2 years sa barrio ko to work.
Then may kumuha sa akin na company sa Manila at yung bossing kong yun, tinulungan ako mag social climbing to the max. Ano ba reputable school?
Weeeeeee LOL!
Never Outshine The Master..
The next lines… PERSONAL reflection.
“PERSONAL reflection.” that’s right – it always happen in the end pag di ka nakakuha nang work dahil you’d be guilty with so many things
- iisipin mo if you took the right course
- iisipin mo if you went to the right school
- iisipin mo had you studied a lot harder
- iisipin mo na why in da world nagbulakbol ka
- iisipin mo, sino sino ba ang na-social climb mo noon? mga walang kwenta ba sila?
and so many things
Welcome Pusa! I know that it is the harsh reality and it may sound discouraging talaga.
In pesoses? Wow, that’s news to me… kalungkot naman talaga.
Well – we all have our hopes in 2010 di ba?
chuva,
do you remember when we stayed in Pasay Road Hotel? nung pina-pagahasa ko na seyo ang pangkin ko at ni-lock ko kayo sa kwarto at dahil TORPE KA, walang nangyari di ba? hahaha!
now, remember the guy working there sa baba nang hotel na di ko tinigilang i lab you nang i lab you? magkano na nga ang sweldo nya nun? P7,000 per month at ang pakain is still their expenses. ang sabi saken, yong kwarto daw bed space ata ang sabi cost him P4,000 so me P3,000 pa right? eh sa Lagro pa daw nakatira, so sama mo transportation, food, konti sa clothing, konti sa yosi, padala daw nya sa probinsya minsan bokya.
kaya ako pagkagradweyt umutang ng pera sa bombay at nag buy and sell ng palay, at first hindi tanggap ng madir at fadir ang desisyon kasi pang high school lang daw yun pro kalaunan I proved them wrong, I was able to send my 2 brothers to college ng sabay at napagtapos ko sila kasama na board exam. Kung office job kaya ako nasadlak? I’m sure I would not be able to buy myself a decent working shoes.
eto ba yong nasa bohol ka pa maxi?
I’m telling you kayod kalabaw ang lola noon.
oo! daming ricefield which was very nice pag nag-drive! kaso leche naman parang London, ang init pag alis nang Tagbilaran and somewhere over the rainbow biglang ulan na kala mo bumukas ang langit, then pagdating sa Chocolate Hills ang init uli! nakakaloka ang weder dun ‘day!
what is FAQu?
As for the tambays, hanap-hanap lang makakakita rin yan. Or better yet, magtayo ng sariling business.
first of all, welcome and mabuhay Ate Pusa! hihi. may cat na ulet sa barrio. charing!
my comment re employment sa pinas, well, based from personal experiences eh basehan pa rin ang credentials, not only your own but your school as well. in my case, commerce ang course ko but i graduated from a college na nursing ang blood life. syempre, magtataka ang inaaplayan ko.
another thing, may palakasan pa rin kahit saan. kung wala kang kapit sa inaaplayan mo good luck na lang sa’yo.
at siyempre, swertehan din yan. being at the right place and the right time.
samahan din ng patience at super duper hard work.
kudos na rin sa ating government esp. DOLE kasi every now and then ay may job fairs.
*life blood. lol
When I graduated from my college degree and started my work in HR, I asked myself kung hanggang sa HR na lang ba ako.
In short, gusto ko karererin lahat. hahaha.
me pusang maganda! welkam muning, (i make wsshh whssshhh, ayan, me dumating na pusa, hahaha!)
beauuuuuty!!! welcome home! lols
the secret is tyaga, tyaga at maraming tyaga. cliche but true, pag walang tyaga walang anda!
welcome to barrio miss pusa.
As much as I wanted to work again baka mahirapan na ako kasi mahirap na magstart ulit as corres sa age ko.
