What is LOVE?

2 March 2010 18 Comments

Let’s talk about love. I know, medyo huli na nga itong pag-usapan dahil tapos na ang Valentine’s Day but as the saying goes, “Everyday should be Valentine’s Day”. Or was it Christmas? Charing!

Anyway, my friend Dave received a forwarded email from someone and he posted it on his blog. During this time of so much hate, all we need is love. You know. Hahaha!

love

Ang sabi sa email, there were a group of professional people that posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds,

“What does LOVE mean?”

I’m sure sa inyong lifetime ay ilang beses niyo na rin na-encounter ang tanong na ito lalo na noong kapanahunan ng mga slumbook and your answers range from the most mababaw to the most profound. But what does Love really mean?

The answers the professionals got were surprisingly broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined.
Hahaha!

From 8-year old Rebecca:

“When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore.
So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.”

Kawawa naman si Grandpa, for the sake of love nagiging pedicurista.

From 4-year old Billy:

“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.”

So nagiging amnesiac ka pala kung masyado kang in love? Katakot!

From 5-year old Karl:

“Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.”

Weird. Nag-aamuyan parang aso?

From 6-year old Chrissy:

“Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.”

Hindi kawalan ang french fries. Puno ito ng cholesterol.

From 4-year old Terri:

“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.”

I disagree. Food makes me smile when I’m tired, dirty and paunchy.

From 7-year old Danny:

“Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.”

From 8-year old Emily:

“Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss.”

Mommy and Daddy, get a room.

From 7-year old Bobby:

“Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.”

Pero mas bongga pa rin kung tinutulungan ka rin niyang magligpit ng kalat mo after opening the presents.

From 6-year old Nikka:

“If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.”

Does that mean kelangan i-friend ni La Kapitana ang mga trolls? Hahaha!

From 7-year old Noelle:

“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.”

Hindi nagpapalit ng t-shirt? Kadiri! Eeeeew!

From 6-year old Tommy:

“Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.”

Mahal at Mura, is that you?

From 8-year old Cindy:

“During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.

He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.”

Natural, tatay mo siya noh. Kahihiyan din niya kung magkalat ka.

From 6-year old Claire:

“My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.”

From 5-year old Elaine:

“Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.”

Eh kasi vegetarian ang nanay mo.

From 7-year old Chris:

“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.”

From 4-year old Mary Ann:

“Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.”

Eeeew! Laway much?

From 4-year old Lauren:

“I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.”

‘Day, inu-uto ka lang ng Ate mo. Hand-me-downs ang tawag diyan.

From 7-year old Karen:

“When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.”

Ano ang tinitira mo iha? Katol?

From 6-year old Mark:

“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn’t think it’s gross.”

Kahit ano pa ang sabihin mo, kadiri pa rin yan for me.

From 8-year old Jessica:

“You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.”

Para ma-iba, say ‘I hate you’ more.

And the final one — Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge.

The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbour was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.
Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.
When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said,
“Nothing, I just helped him cry.”

——————————————————————————————————

Seriously, the children’s answers are the most genuine definitions of Love I have ever encountered.

Ikaw, what does LOVE mean?

is is the ‘gurl’ behind “The Misadventures of Mel Beckham”. ‘She’ graduated with a double major in Management and Entrepreneurship. ‘She’ grew up in the city but now lives in the bukid near barrio siete juggling work as a farm manager, office secretary, messenger, construction worker, housemaid, make-up artist and babysitter. Despite ‘her’ busy schedule, ‘she’ finds the time to blog in between work, and errands using ‘her’ primitive mobile phone. ‘She’ plans to take ‘her’ MBA soon but ‘her’ multiple jobs prevent ‘her’ from doing so unless going to school will get ‘her’ paid to pay for ‘her’ utangs. Before ‘she’ dies, ‘she’ hopes of owning a pair of Louboutins, and landing on the cover of Vogue, kahit sa Vogue India lang. Whichever comes first.
